  • @TheDeltaDawg funny you say that on here, because i know you wouldnt dare to say that to a campbells face.

  • @ATeamHmMurdock haha you're probably right. We got trashed by the Campbells in the 17th century, thats why I posted that.

(any fan of Murdock is a friend of mine :D)

  • I saw both video series "A history of Scotland". Personally, I don't have much respect for former feuding Clan chief instigators or Barron's or King's that could care less about their people or English attempts at takeover.

The story of Scotland is really about the common man getting treated like a slave. Some of the clan chiefs even resorted to killing babies to put their fear into the opposition. It's been a sick and sordid history in too many ways.

    As for Scottish independence. Yes!

  • IS anyone else here Clan Lindsay?

  • im from the great riding clan of elliott and armstrong

  • 3000 generations??? Bollocks thats 60000 years, bet it was nice during the last ice age. . . Get your facts right or people just switch off. . . . HTH. . . .

  • @dixon97a Thanks for your comment, I forwarded to the director, this is his reply - "3000 generations is a bit of a boo-boo if you take it as linear regression back through time . However, if you think of generations as the roots of a great tree, they spread in three dimensions, with depth and breadth. That's where we get the 3000 figure from."

    Thanks for your interest,

    the Great Scottish Clans team,

  • @heatherthevet.... Dixon, It's not easy to explain. My math was poor. My error.

  • @dixon97a Average lifespan was 20-30 so that's 6 to 9, 000 years ago.

  • @robcas631 What ???? 3000 generations is equel to 9000 years??? A generation is generally considered to be 20 years, my original comment was a little harsh but in my defence its very simple maths. . .

  • lol always kept a feeling that it was quite lucky to be scottish. now i hear 120 mil people are descended from scottish clans? now i dont feel special haha

  • @exoskeletonsz I'm sure you're special in your own wee way ;-)

  • kennedy, kerr, watson, are theses ligit scots clans and names or are they from europe.

  • @belindakennedy I will ask one of the team to check this out for you - I know that Kennedy is definitely a legitimate Clan name and that they had at least one castle in the Southwest of Scotland.

  • @belindakennedy I have tried to message you some links but it won't let me due to your friend settings. Check our website for information on Kennedy, and both wikipedia and Surname Database for the others.

  • Lamont Clan here.

  • my last name is Marrs and its comes from the clan of Mar : ) Marrs is a sept of the clan of Mar

  • Im a Member in Good Standing with Clan Lindsay U.S.A.. Im an Affleck.

  • So romatic, been a clans man. Serftom, bondage, or another word slavery. It finished in Clundon. As a member of the clan you were in bondage to a higher member of the clan and so on to the cheif. So as a lower man you owned nothing, except your name.

  • This made me wish I was Scottish, or 'more' Irish or at least had more knowledge of my Celtic roots. A beautiful society to be sure.

  • I'm a Smith.

Means Gow in Gaelic, my family actually came from Scotland, my great grandfather I think was Scottish, might have gone back a bit further than that though.

    Thanks for uploading much appreciated!

    Its really cool!

My dentist is a MacFarlane, was up at a highland wedding on Skye a few months ago and they all most of them wore kilts, was really interesting.

  • Good News! The DVD's for Clan MacGregor and MacDonald are now available to buy on the website as well as the Clan Origins seen above. Hopefully I will have a trailer soon to show you.

  • I am a decedent of Bill MacDougall that lived i Canada. I've been trying to trace my roots back but, since little is known to me giving that my grandmother doesn't talk about her father that much. It's hard to get any solid information. If anybody knows when the first MacDougalls showed up in Canada or when they departed from Scotland to Canada it would be appreciated

  • @cypryss1 Try scotlandspeople.gov.uk

  • @heatherthevet My great great great grandfather was Colin Douglas that came to Canada in 1773 aboard the Hector that landing in Pictou Nova Scotia.

That's all I have right now. Thanks for the site I'll check that out.

  • @cypryss1

First place most scots settled was Pictou Nova Scotia. You might want to check the ship lists for the Betsy, the Hector a possibly the Hope. There's a listing for the birth of a William MacDougall in Stellarton in 1873. Born to a Duncan an Anne of Piedmont.... earliest ones I could find, but my search is not extensive but hey ya never know!

  • @Bigredgumball My relative that came over from the Hector was Colin Dougal in 1773 with his 2 year old daughter Mary and his wife died on the voyage to Pictou Nova Scotia . Not to sure why it was switch to McDougals later on. One thing I did fine and notice was that the Douglas adopted a lot throughout their history and those children took on the name of McDougal instead of Dougal. Dougal was use for those that were from the direct bloodline of the Dougal Clan.

  • @cypryss1 I'm getting lost - was he Colin Douglas or Colin Dougal? Douglas is a name from the south of Scotland, a very powerful family whos fortunes were intertwined with those of Robert the Bruce, but Clan Dougal are usually referred to as MacDougall (or Mc with one or two L's) and are from the West Highlands and a different kettle of fish altogether. Carl the presenter is a MacDougall from the Oban MacDougalls.

  • @heatherthevet My apologize I was tired when I wrote this. I was told by a relative and even been to the grave of Colin Douglas in Pictou Nova Scotia but, looking at the ship manifest something isn't adding up. It says his child was Alex not Mary. Also my great grand father's last name was MacDougall with 2 LL I believe and off of memory my grandmother's sister told me that we hail from Oban. She even has the old Scottish Tartan that I've seen myself of the Macdougall clan.

  • @Bigredgumball From 1773 to date no one was adopted into my family. Everyone was born into the family. Other then this only one other recorded mention anything about Colin Douglas in Canadian history. I haven't been able to fined any record other then this which leaves me at a dead end. No mentioned that I have seen has been listed in Scottish records either. Kind of frustrating trying to track back the bloodline before 1773.

  • Thankyou for the vid and the info. I descend from the Clan Lamont. I look forward to one day be able to go to a gathering of the clans. A little funny thing of how history repeats itself is I have a friend that is a MacGreggor and long ago they were allies in war. And I have a friend named MacCallister as well.

  • @llarlamon7758

my ancestors are the MacAllisters and Keiths, so many clan names are similar.

  • I would love to find these videos!!

  • You can find them at greatscottishclans com where you can sign up to the mailing list so we can inform you of new releases. We also have a facebook group where we try to post updates of how the filming is coming along.

    Thank you for your support!

  • the guy speaking is he scottish?

his accent he has a slight accent.

  • Yes, Carl is Scottish, his accent is from the West Coast.

  • hello, so if im a macintosh would i have a link with the macintosh clan?

  • yes

  • Yes, a clan is just a big family. Everyone born with the surname macintosh is linked to that clan, they may also be attached to several other clans through the maternal lines. It's not as easy and clear cut as it used to be when the clans were very territorial and all lived in one area. There are no hard and fast rules to this!

  • @turtle472 I'm also a part of the macintosh clan!

  • where do we find these videos? would like to see them.

  • The company website is listed in the information to the right of the clip, where you can find out more about what we are up to, also there is a facebook group to keep everyone informed on the progress of films. If you send me your email I can add you to the mailing list so we can let you know whenever a new film is released. Merry Christmas!

  • If my grandmother and grandfather are from a scottish clan does that mean i have links to that clan or am i completely seperate? thanks

  • Yes indeed, you have links to the clan. It's not unusual to be associated with several clans as there were marriages between clans which were allies. My own family is a mixed bag of McLeod, Fraser, MacGregor and all sorts! The main affiliation is normally through the paternal line, but there's no hard and fast rules!

  • I'm McLeod Clan aswell, Alba Gu brath!

  • we are in the state of indiana, I remember my dad recieving invitations to scottland years ago, he is gone now but we live on. Would like to see more about our clan history if there is any. thanks, shawn and carol mcintosh.

  • If you send me a little message to my inbox with your email address I'll let you know as soon as Mackintosh/McIntosh is ready. In the meantime the general history of Clans really is very good - Clan Origins. Have a Merry Christmas and if you're feeling particularly Scottish, a riproaring Hogmanay!

  • where are you guys located, im a mackintosh from the u.s. totlally enjoy

this type of history. lock moigh!!!

  • We are in Scotland, based in Glasgow, where it is freezing cold today and snowing! What part of the US are you in?

  • i was looking for mcintosh clan history.

  • McIntosh will be covered with Mackintosh and is one of the first twenty clans to be covered. I would expect it to be released around 18 months from now. The guys were out filming today in the cold and snow!

  • To the person who was looking for McIntosh - I'm really sorry, I tried to reply but hit remove instead, please don't take the huff! What I was going to say is...

We can only do one at a time! We are doing out best, but we are a small company, please be patient! In the meantime I can recommend the Clan Origins film which covers clan history and society as a whole, and looks at the events which brought about it's downfall

  • i wane see the whole video!! cane you tell me hver to wach the whole video??

  • The website URL is at the end of the blurb, enjoy!

  • Have these videos become victims of the recession? Still no sign of them.

  • The Clan Origins DVD has been finished and is available from the website, the individual clans are still a work in progress, I saw the rough cut of MacDonald the other day and it was wonderful! The next two out are MacGregor and Stuart, then MacDonald and I think Campbell. Then I think MacLeod is next. We are working on it!

  • I'm a descendant of clan MacBain.

  • I was wondering if you will be doing a video on the Scott Clan?

  • Hi there, we do plan to cover the Scott clan, although not in the immediate future, it is in the second phase of the project, so 18 months to two years away. It should be really interesting, the Scotts have a rich history with a few big names in it, and of course an identfiable home seat still. Makes all the difference!

  • When are these dvds available to buy?

  • I hope you got my message, they are out now and hopefully the website selling page will be up and running soon!

  • Please could you link me to the page were you can buy them cuz i can't find them anywhere !!!?

  • do you have any more of these videos?

  • This is the only trailer so far, Clan MacGregor will be out soon, followed by Clan Stuart later this year
