Alright, I'm going to say this once and then be done with commenting on this subject. Please, learn what martial arts are really about. Ask any grand master (any real grand master) and I bet that they will tell you this: although martial arts were used in combat centuries or evn milleniums before this time, martial arts are about reolving conflict and returning to a state of peace with your enemies. Martial arts are the truest physical expression of one's self.
From my experience of street fighting, ring fighting and also, watching others fight, I have learned that real fights look like MMA and the real, deadly fighters in this world are those whose fighting styles resemble kickboxing-type such as muay thai, sanshou, kickboxing, savate, boxing, kyokushin kumite, etc or wrestling/grappling-type, such as Greco-Roman wrestling, Brazilian Jiujitsu, Judo, Ssireum, Shuai jiao, Sambo, etc.
Only Kung Fu styles that's been ever proven effective are Sanshou and Shuai Jiao. These arts resemble reality fighting and don't waste their time doing silly demonstrations and moves that don't work in real life. These guys practice full contact, not like this poser tommy. Cung Le would kill Tommy in the streets. Not even Cung Le. Even non-MMA sanshou fighters like Liu Hailong will crush this poser Tommy in real street fight also.

Even before first UFC, there was a Gracie Challenge, which was to invite all martial artists to come forward and test out their skills against BJJ. There were absolutely no rules, no cage, no referee. It was fought inside a humongous dojo that's over 5000 square feet. No ninja/krav maga/wc/jkd was ever a threat to any fighters in that challenge.
Tommy does not train for the "octagon" sport; In real fights there are no rules, anything GOES. In a real/street fight, Tommy would start off probably either by kicking in your knee socket, breaking it(he can, easily); or start throwing finger jabs to your eyes at blinding speeds while kicking you in the groin at the same time. No "sport/MMA" fighter knows how to defend against that. Not that he needs that anyways, look at his speed and footwork it trumps any UFC/MMA fighters I have seen.

Tommy is very very impressive when he trains, and when he gives lessons, but one can only question how he would do in the ring in the MMA. People to this day question Lee's ability in the ring, so get in there Tommy and prove to everyone that Jeet Kune Do is the real deal. You want to learn from someone real, go to Isreal and learn Krav Maga from their special forces. That's as real as is gets. As far as lifting weights and doing all the plyo he does, he's not lifting to bulk, but to tone and strengthen. Which means his punches will be harder, faster and more lethal, just like Bruce Lee.

@june14211 i'm jkd & i can tell u most of the tym our troupes usually spar behind closed doors .but here are those of us that do go fight in any many full contact venues , of any & every type of sport or combat art u can imagine . at dog brothers gatherings & we've been sparing this wav 4 years .u may fight w/ out weaponry as well as with it . lots of jkd troupes do this . look at dog brothers gathering 2009 or 2010 ect. we luv it so much bcaz no silly weight class no mma silly azz rules

From my experience of street fighting, ring fighting and also, watching others fight, I have learned that real fights look like MMA and the real, deadly fighters in this world are those whose fighting styles resemble kickboxing-type such as muay thai, sanshou, kickboxing, savate, boxing, kyokushin kumite, etc or wrestling/grappling-type, such as Greco-Roman wrestling, Brazilian Jiujitsu, Judo, Ssireum, Shuai jiao, Sambo, etc.

Only Kung Fu styles that's been ever proven effective are Sanshou and Shuai Jiao. Even before first UFC, there was a Gracie Challenge, which was to invite all martial artists to come forward and test out their skills against BJJ. There were absolutely no rules, no cage, no referee. It was fought inside a humongous dojo that's over 5000 square feet. No ninja/krav maga/wc/jkd was ever a threat to any fighters in that challenge.

Tommy does not train for the "octagon" sport; In real fights there are no rules, anything GOES. In a real/street fight, Tommy would start off probably either by kicking in your knee socket, breaking it(he can, easily); or start throwing finger jabs to your eyes at blinding speeds while kicking you in the groin at the same time. No "sport/MMA" fighter knows how to defend against that. Not that he needs that anyways, look at his speed and footwork it trumps any UFC/MMA fighters I have seen.

It's nothing to do with a ring. People are at danger of taking combat SPORT as real combat. I've beatin mma fighters by giving them direct boxing techniques. But on the street... Al be leaving with your eyes. And that is jkd. Why do somthing fancy when all you want to do is damage your opponent. Don't do a right hook if a right straight to the guys chin is there.
Don't do an inside leg kick when his balls are there for a hammering.

Tommy is very very impressive when he trains, and when he gives lessons, but one can only question how he would do in the ring in the MMA. Again, NOT taking anything away from Tommy, his skill looks amazing, but just like Lee would ask... how practical is it? People to this day question Lee's ability in the ring, so get in there Tommy and prove to everyone that Jeet Kune Do is the real deal. Anyone can look good when their students stand there taking punches... ;)

@arahim1231987 Real fights in the streets just have more dangerous environment than the octagon ring. The real question is, who would be more conditioned and prepared to fight in that environment? You better believe it or not, it's MMA. While I only train Muay Thai at my local gym, MMA is the real deal. I've used my MT and won all my street fights but I have lost ring fights. Fighting level of street fighters pales compared to fighting level of octagon/ring fighters.

@DenRiotNYC UFC aint real life combat experience, it's sport fighting experience. If there are rules and a ref in the fight, it aint real combat. You want to learn from someone real, go to Isreal and learn Krav Maga from their special forces. That's as real as is gets. As far as lifting weights and doing all the plyo he does, he's not lifting to bulk, but to tone and strengthen. Which means his punches will be harder, faster and more lethal, just like Bruce Lee.

@june14211 the problem with emil is the lack of jkd principles. Ive seen his vids hes an amazing martial artist and I would love to be half as good as him. But you watch a vid of him training on wing chun dummy or giving demo, he will trap both arms then pull their arm back up to trap again. I know its a demo and hes "demonstrating" but in reality hes showing off, he is showing what he can do in the vids, not what jkd is.

@june14211 i'm jkd & i can tell u most of the tym our troupes usually spar behind closed doors .but here are those of us that do go fight in any many full contact venues , of any & every type of sport or combat art u can imagine . at dog brothers gatherings & we've been sparing this wav 4 years .u may fight w/ out weaponry as well as with it . lots of jkd troupes do this . look at dog brothers gathering 2009 or 2010 ect. we luv it so much bcaz no silly weight class no mma silly azz rules
