Thank you very much. I was able to use this video to hook up to a laptop running Fedora with an Ethernet cord and bridge the connection to the Internet through my Macbook Pro.

if you use the above video's instructions, for most people it won't work. this is because a lot of ISPs and routers use variable dns settings, so using the same or a variation of the gateway ip address is generally not the way to go about doing this. From my personal experience, unless you can find a method that utilizes the xbox's and router's automatic settings in sync, you are going to have to fidget around with those dns settings for hours.

well it worked to get the network connected, but i still couldnt connect to the internet or to xbox live.

1. start internet sharing

2. open terminal -this can be done by typing in terminal on spotlight

3. once terminal is opened, type cp /etc/bootpd.plist /tmp/bootpd.plist

4. stop internet sharing

5. in terminal, type open -e /tmp/bootpd.plist

6. a textedit file will open. Just close it.

7. in terminal, type sudo cp /tmp/bootpd.plist /etc - you will be prompted for an admin password, so type it in.

8. start internet sharing

9. turn xbox on

10. Enjoy xbox live

@TCR1S1S well, for some, it may open the nat, for some, it doesn't. If you go to your router login, it may have settings for NAT such as secure or none. For xbox, you might want to go into your router settings again and establish some port forwarding. You would forward TCP/UDP ports 88, 3074 to your computer's ip address. Try to screw around with the sudo error, i don't know what went wrong there.

Again, this doesn't work for windows and i haven't been able to confirm it works for anything other than mac osx lion

so with this setup, my xbl works, but my nat type is stuck at moderate. so i go on youtube an try using the different guides for opening my nat and all of them tell me to change my xbox's settings to a bunch of shit thats totally different than this guide and set up stuff on my ip adress dmz and shit and then i just cant even connect to my network at all. is it impossible to share a network connection with this setup with an open nat?

I found out it works for ps3 but after you do all these steps just set ip address settings to automatic then on the mac on ethernet switch to dhcp manual address and enter your ip and it works.

I'm having an issue, I've followed the steps almost 4 times now. And everytime my xbox goes from the "network" step to the "internet" step it always tells me my internet connection fails.

I favorited this video a year ago and today I needed it again, found it back in my favorites. Really great video, this is the only solution that works so far. :) Other videos tell you to enter the address of your router in the DNS settings which isn't right.

Instead of using your ip under second DNS server in the xbox settings go back to apple symbol and use ur DNS server thats in there. That should fix the Passed the network but not the internet problem.

found the solution under lion!!!

in your xbox, you have to set dhcp and ip settungs to auto and teh on your mac, in your network settings, change your ethernet connection from manual to dhcp and everything works just fine!

FYI: You can also use google's DNS server address for the DNS settings on the XBOX.

Primary DNS Server: 8.8.8.8

Secondary DNS Server: 8.8.4.4

Mine is working great, and fast too.
