  • I would love to learn Combat Sambo. I wish there was a Combat Sambo School in the area/heart of Los Angeles,CA. I hope the ASA does something about it because I'm sure that there are tons of people just waiting for a CS school to open in LA.... I hope it's sooner than later.

  • those long shorts are very funny. russians use short shorts

  • stupid technic!

  • is there a sambo school for classes in the california area? I know of los osos and santee, but those are too far from where I reside and they'll be inconvenient for me :/

  • @CaMote558 samboschools.c o m there is a class in the SF/Oakland area

  • pppppppppppppphahaha combat sambo is not american is a russian spetsnaz combat

  • what is the difference between jiu-jutsu and sambo?

  • @pollsayspaul go to our news section at ussambo . c o m

  • @pollsayspaul Jui-Jitsu and Sambo are virtually similar. Jiu-jitsu is a more submission counter attack based art. Sambo coming from Judo is based on throwing techniches that lead to submissions/ grappling. As Judo, Sambo is based to immobolize the opponenet w/ a throw that sets up submissions as a an alternative to subdue the opponent if still needed. Jiu-jitsu depends more on grappling to gain better position for a submission. Both just as good, I like 'em both.

  • @pollsayspaul sambo is like 50% judo 50% jiu jitsu

  • @saberman41 check 'sambo is life' and you will know what sambo is...

  • any schools near dallas or wichita falls tx?

  • any combat sambo beginner schools near pawling NY?

  • any clasese in nyc?

  • Ah, this brings back memories. When I was around 11, my dad got some of his Russian ex-military friends to teach me SAMBO. This makes me think about getting back into it...

  • Is there a possibility of a combat sambo school or program in virginia

  • any Sambo schools in Hempstead New York??

  • Rosati school of martial arts is starting a program under our supervision

  • actually, Long Island Shotokan is an affiliate school in Floral Park

You can check the ASA directory for our contact information :-D

  • Awesome

  • not that I know of...

  • anywhere to learn sambo in hong kong?

  • The only good move is the one that you can get to work most of the time. Not everyone can do every move. Some people have better timing and understand how to deflect or absorb punishment. I think that's a prerequisite for this technique. Given that, I think this would be highly effective against a very aggressive opponent.

  • 70 percent of your sambo is based on the Georgian martial art of khridoli from which they copied during the Soviet Union

  • Yea right... go tell those fairy tales to someone else... tie eater!

  • For your dumb ass, the secret sumbo was all created based on Georgian martial art. And second of all keep that mouth running like that and I will have that tie you talking about stuck up right up into your ass. Do not play around kiddo, you are not talking to some drunken Russian around here now so change the attitude.

  • No I'm talking to a Georgian tie eating retard obviously don't know crap :). Come on, stop playing macho man on the keyboard :P ok kiddo?

  • where are you right now, I am gettin fuckin serous already. I am gonna meet and bit the fuckin shit out of you dickface. keep calling Georgians tie eaters and you will be eating my dick

  • Comment removed

  • Actually I think if the other guy ate your dick you would have lost the fight.

  • why dont you eat my dick and try it for me ha?

  • I'm sure you would have to grow one first.

  • If Georgia is the second name of Japan and khridoli is a secret name of Judo, than yes. But I thought that Georgia is a godforsaken region of the earth, full of angry and stupid little kids.

  • truth proves itself. Truth shows off sooner or later and so it will do. National Geographic is doing a documentary about khridoli as we speack right now, and marked it as one of the best self defence techniques in the world. They also aproved the word that most of the sambo is based on Georgian martial art so you can choke on my dick as much as you want it isnot gonna change a damn thing

  • First, truth proves itself, water is waterish, fire is hot, you are an idiot and so forth, no questions, it's obvious, no reason to argue this.

Secondly, your point about Khridoli ridiculous, there was no such martial art as "Khridoli" before 1980-ies, there were small styles with very different techniques which was unified only in the Soviet era. Sambo is the basis on which restored Khridoli, not vice versa.

At last, why are you so concentrating on what another man can do with your dick?

  • what a dumb ass. You dumb ass khevsur people in caucasus mountains were fighters sinceever they are known in the area. Even the swords that russians used to use is Caucasian sword in Caucasus it is known as khanjal. it was not popular in 1980s because fuckin Russian leadership forced all the mountain people in the lowlands and destroied their livestyles. khridoli existed way before than Russia itself you dumb ass. Some of it was even written down and it is how it was tranfered from Generations

  • What the hell are you talking about? How does ARABIC dagger correlated with Khridoli?

It was not popular before 1980s because of its absence. It's a compilation and unification of different styles over the Sambo methodological and technical basis. There was NO Khridoli before 80s, only a few dead and some still living folk styles, plenty of which have been recovering via stories and folk tales. I'm not surprising that Khridoli looks similar to Sambo, but your version of it is so idiotic...

  • you dumb ass, what you talking about arabic dagger. Arabs also use word khanjal and refer it with knives which was also phrase to represent the sword in caucasus. In northern caucasus it was refered as kinjal (almost same thing). you dumb ass this martial art was preserved in dances in many cultural activities stored in story tales and most emportent of all, it was preserved in records. it was writtend down and pssed to Generations. It was preserved by the monks to be spcific

  • Wow, the Arabic language was stolen by the Arabs from Georgians too! Oh my... :D

  • it is arabic word indeed but why are you supprised? Georgians fought against Arabians and persians for 6 centuries, they had Tbilisi ocupied for 2-3 centuries untill Georgian army defeated them and actually that battle was marked as Dzlevai Sakvirveli which meens unbilivible victory as Georgian army destoried ten times larger enemy. you can google it if you want to it is a true story of most well known Georgian king David "The Builder"

that is another example of our great martial traditions

  • It's simple, stupid: If it's an Arabic word, not Georgian why are you talking that Russians stolen the name for this type of daggers? Russians as well as Georgians was at war with the Osman empire for a very long time, moreover, Russians protected Georgians in this war. As well as in Georgian, in Russianthere are some adoptions from Arabic.

  • I will not be unrespectfull and will say that yess Russians did protect Georgia from full invaision in its hardest time but as a result you ruined our traditions and history. Original word for khangal in Georgian language is Khali, or sometimes they say Dana. In Svan language which is original preserved Georgian language on which we spoke during the ages of B.C it has other words too. However it is Georgian armor and sword originally from Georgian and not from Russia, you have to agree on that

  • I don't know ANY swords with "Kinjal" or "Khangal" name in Russia. Give me the link and probably I'll agree with you. In Russian "Kinjal" means a double-edged prickly knife.

  • People were trained daily in Georgia because my country had to fight every damn day for its soverenity. Who did Russia fight to except of Mongols in the past ha? Monks used to train common population and used to partisipate in some of the wars too due to our very low population. This martial art was also preserved by them in archives in museums and so on and on. They actually wrote all the treasury down during the russification so that it would not be lost but then you guys came out coping it al

  • Is it a joke? Open the hystory book and read. Byzantines, Bulgars, Khazars, Mongols, Poles, Swedes, Germans, Franches...

  • Master of martial art was considered he who during the ritual of "kichnaoba" (which was almost same like a duel with swords) would actually make the least damige on oponent but would be able to prove his ebility to do so if needed. For every cut duelers used to be punished. They were supposed to pay off the the fine based on how many rise would fit inside the wound

  • lol in russia we got them every1 wher =)))

  • I wish there was a Combat Sambo instructor in Florida T.T

  • I wish it weren't so difficult to find Sombo instructors in the UK...

  • Sambo is great but... I like short shorts!

  • this is nice stuff...if everyone u fought stood still and allowed you to fondle them this way.

  • I respect sambo but... In clinch it's better to push the opponent's head on your shoulder; to control his balance. You should pull his head with hands.A palm over the back of the other hand without crossing your fingers. The hands behind his nape and elbows firmly in line with the opponent's shoulder.Find a good lever. This technique has no defense against muay thai elbows and a good knee shouldn't have space below the knee to be taken that way.Foot pointed below and the knee attached to the calf.

  • I don't disagree with your description of MT knees. But, I just want to clarify that this vid was specifically for combat sambo competition where elbows are not generally used and jacket grips are often used and favored because knees will generally used to set up throws. I would certainly change gripping/strategy for no-gi or mma. But specifically for combat sambo competitons, grips and jacket control are critical.

  • Thanks. You're a very good man. You've seen my opinion without bad reacting.

I'm Italian and I would learn Combat Sambo, here. But there are no masters. Here we have only the Sport Sambo. Thanks for the conversation. I think you're a good teacher. Sorry for my bad english.

  • As a lifelong Sambo competitor I would advise you to buy online Steve Scott's Championship Sambo book and DVD's, and then practice those moves with a partner. Sambo is great for self defense and fitness.

  • well, you should enter the sambo gym. you probably don't know but combat sambo knows only a handful of people in russian spetznaz. combat sambo is for combat and for killing. i'm sure it's sport sambo on the video, because comabt sambo is one of the most secret arts in the world. so this guy can't know this.

  • AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

  • there are 3 types of sambo

    the olympic(pure wrestling)

    combat(MMA)

    military(kill)

  • nonsense. there are more than two types of sambo. sport sambo, combat sambo (sport version), self defense (civilian) sambo, and combat sambo for the military. and it's really not that secret anymore lol

  • i got a black eye just for trying this to a bully wrestler in my school.

  • for bullys use vee-jit-su....they'll never expect it..

  • Thanks.

  • Just kick them in the nuts.

  • AZTEC1MAYA4LIFE whahah yes or finger in the eye

  • Yea, that would work too.

  • but did you get to complete the throw?

  • I practice Muay Thai, so clinching is common.

This is giving me ideas, :P

  • are you mad?! This clinch is totally different.

  • Denied the clinch, nice work!

  • this is a good technic

  • Gotta love combat sambo. Very complex form of martial arts yet very useful =D

  • good job.

  • he talks too much

  • This is a nice technique!

  • thanks dude

  • Hey guys, if you don't believe in a move don't question the guy teaching it. It's YOUR fault if the move doesn't work for you. All Steve is doing is showing you 1 of many possibilities from 1 position. You should be thankful that he is putting his techniques for the world to see. I'm sure Steve would have caught me, and 90% of all you guys in that sweep... But, you guys are coming off like you would have seen that coming a mile away..

  • thanks andre, but it is all good. People can take what they want and leave the rest :)

  • its easy to see it on a video isnt it? lol different story when your fighting, kneeing and suddenly find yourself on your back...wth just happened?

  • nice technique from sport sambo..

  • bolloxs left this at the knee catch, fantasy land

  • This vid is terrible

  • Thank you very much sir.

  • Steve, thanks for the video, but I have a concern about really catching the knee. You have to be superfast to really catch it, since this is the same arm you are using to amortize his strike.

  • yeah, I hear ya. Timing is key. It is a bit easier with the jacket on and lack of sweat factor though. Easy to miss for sure.

  • i`d like to train with that dude in Red gi. he knows his shit.

  • where are you located?

  • duh...Australia. I check youtr profile. But, I have family in Perth. Maybe I will be there one of these days.

  • yea am fr Perth now.,used to be fr. Moscow

  • Oh. I will be in Moscow in May.

  • That's a good one. spin over to the other side and BOOM..kneebar.

  • i prefer a knee bar after the podsechka in that case

  • Definitely open for the elbow. Good point. If it is in combat sambo (with the gi) a close tight grip will help minimize that a bit by stuffing his arms, but, no gi is very different. Every move opens you up for another...LOL. Better sweep fast if you do this move (or any takedown for that matter). The more you hang out in the clinch, the more opportunity for him to strike you.

  • But if you aren't training for Sport Sambo and you are doing the Combat Sambo, couldn't you move in with a headbutt? I think he'd have a hard time elbowing you if you hit him with one of those.

  • Cool technique, but in real combat, looks like when you use your forearm to stop the knee you're giving that side of your head away. If someone defended like this I would try to elbow the shit out of them.

  • great instruction and clear explaination!!

  • nice!

  • THANK YOU FOR THE VID. I MISS SAMBO

  • Thanks Steve!

  • very useful technique. thanks again sambosteve!
