What I can tell you is that I have followed the Mario Kart series from SNES up to Wii and...once I inserted the Sonic & Sega All Stars Racing in my XBOX360, and after playing through the whole of it, I do think that Sega has managed to make a game that is LOADS BETTER than any of the entries in the Mario Kart series. If the NDS version is as good as the PS3/360 versions then it's not to be missed. Cheers.

Why sega didn't use that trick with the totem poles for one of their tracks? Also it sucks, that they didn't use any tracks form Space Channel 5, Virtua Fighters, Alex Kidd ore ChuChu Rocket.

Also I miss soem great Sega Characters like Metal-Sonic, Blaze, Chip, Nights, Ristar, Vyse and Aika, Ecco, the Dolphine and more.

But Still, it's a great game and I like it so much more then Mario Kart.

To answer the question everyone seems to be asking: The in-game profiles say that Sonic uses a car built by tails to make sure the whole thing is a fair race since Sonic would outrun everyone else otherwise.

Not that this will satisfy them really, since Sonic seems to have some of the most unpleasable fanbases in the videogame comunity...

Is it just me or does it feel like 90% of all the posts are either comparing it with Mario Kart or moaning that Sonic is in a car. For those who actually dont realise there is a reason he is in a car its simple... the games mechanics didnt work with the drift system with people not in a vehicle. Sonic and Dr Eggman didnt initially have cars but after testing Sumo realised they had to have EVERYONE in cars so they changed things. Sonic is still one of the fastest in the game so why care so much?

I'd prefer this more than mario kart wii, but you might get seriously annoyed by the Computers or Players spamming rockets all the time.

Sonic needs a car because they tried him without a car and it wouldn't work. They wanted to have Sonic running outside the other vehicles but the characters' sizes were all different and probably didn't fit together very good, so Sonic was very small compared to some of the larger vehicles. This was one of the early prototypes of the game, which they even said wasn't fun to play due to it's problems.

Jacky Bryant isn't just a fighter, he's a racecar driver. The red car he's driving is the one from Sega's Out Run series, because both Out Run and Virtua Fighter were created by Sega's AM2 team. This doesn't mean that Jacky Bryant is the protagonist (or hero) of the Virtua Fighter series, Akira Yuki is, and that's why they added him as Jacky's co-driver and All-Star move.
