davenport has always been a slow mover but what made it so apparent here was davenport's shot didnt have the depth compared to when she was in her prime, before her first retirement. back then, she would get the ball so deep and heavy that her opponents didnt have much time to react. moving her would be the smart thing but davenports deep, heavy shots pushed her opponents back. her shots in this match were landing short she wasnt getting the depth, which gave maria time.

OH and one more thing, why the hell was Mary going on about Serena? That made no sense, Sharapova's always determined to win every point, every match. So is Serena.

I love the sound of Lindsay's strokes, they sound like a gun sometimes! I know this is no where near topic, but I wished that Hantuchova won this tournament! I really thought she could've done it!

Lindsay wasn´t at her top here after giving birth to her first baby. María should´ve been relief that Serena or Venus weren´t there. Other wise, she could forget winning.

@ezayi true about lindsay but lindsay was having a great comeback at the end of 07 and the start of 08, and i love the williams sisters always have even b4 maria and it wasn't maria's fault she made the semis and her opponent was jelena "her last name's jankovic". And Maria did beat both of the players that beat venus and serena that year so you have to give the girl credit!

@JamieOwen03 Venus is never a contender at the Australian Open. Maria also owns her on hard courts. Williams fans are all retards. Maria beat Henin who was the dominant #1 at the time and a far bigger threat than Venus ever was here.

@ezayi Both sisters were playing this tournament, they made it to the quarters. And as Jamie already stated, the Serbians beat them ironically. Of course Lindsay wasn't at her top. She was already in her 30's and her movement was abysmal here.

Maria has to be the most annoying player ever lol I mean with the shrieking, constant fist pumps and the "Come-on!!" for every point like it's not that serious, I understand she's a competitor and all that but like really she just does too much for me personally, o the flip side like I said love that she's a constant competitor, love her backhand, love her mental strength that it's not over til you hear "Game-set-Match" :)

And that's the beauty of it, both of them struggles a bit with the movement on court, but they neutralize this cause they are tennis players who strike the ball amazingly well, they're both fantastic and both won exactly the same Slams, 1 Wimbledon, 1 USO and 1 AO

Just finished watching their semifinal showdown in Wimbledon 2004. Four years later and Sharapova finds her way on top again. Except here, she's the bigger, badder chick around town.

Well everyone knows Lindsay wasn't a great mover. But that's the reason Mariah is such a unique athlete. People don't realize it, she's closer to 6'3" and is tall and linky so for her to be able to move as well as she does is quite impressive

Not for being slow. These 2 are tall for women's tennis. It's not easy to move that fast on court when you're 6'2 and up on women's.

Davenport was such a heffer! Seems like a nice person, but could not move. Never knew why players didn't move her around more. If it turned into a baseline slugfest, she would win, but wouldn't even try to chase down modt drop shots.
