  • @ 0:38 how did mario swim in the floor? its a cool video but still.

  • @xxxrandomxxxfandomxx He slid.

  • @hardcorezombi sarcasm will get you nowhere.

  • Hey Look! this is our console's start-up! if you dont insert a disk and wait for 60 seconds. the main character from one of our most successful games will magically appear and starts Kicking the 3D "N" Symbol!!!

O' Nintendo... how random can you get?

  • I still remember flipping a penny constantly in my older brother's room because I sucked at it so bad. It would always go everywhere *but* where my hand was. Well, one day it found its way into the N64 cartridge slot. And since there was no one of getting it out or getting it out, my older siblings blamed me for breaking it as if it wasn't an "accident".

  • LOL what the hell is this? All I know is my N64 never did this.

    >_<

  • @DJStompZone

This is N64DD that used Discs

  • @MrGamingOtaku Hmmph, wild! I want one. >=9

  • no sabia q nintendo 64 usaba discos jaja

  • Stay still Mario you owe me 500 bucks.

  • So Japan had a clock and a menu... Thats why Animal Forest even had a clock

  • My N64 didn't have an intro

  • HOW DO THEY GET BETTER N64?

  • man, that N is an ass!

  • Comment removed

  • They really took the time to make a pretty good animation for an old console

  • @PenroseFilms An old console that NOBODY owns.

  • @CynicalBrony I know someone that owns it. They don't use it very much, but it works and they have it!

  • @CynicalBrony i got one no in fact 3 working ones a ps1 a ps2 and original xbox and just bought a game cube my dad has all consoles but the wii/360/ps3

  • i dident know the n64 could used disk? (title)

  • nice

  • I think this is cool! I really would enjoy watching Mario play around with the 3D N64 logo.

  • theres some major connections between the playstion logo and the n64 logo

  • what does the DD on n64DD?

  • @2345geno disk drive

  • I really wish this thing hadn't failed commercially, so much lost potential :'(

  • i wish i was in a alternate universe where the 64DD wasn't bad!

  • @TheGeoXWar i wish they didn't screw up on the gamecube!

  • where 64 ment to have online??

  • @liam22brand it meant 64 bit

  • @liam22brand No, this is just Nintendo's move to using disks.

  • @liam22brand ..ans the gamecube was the one with the internet add-on.

  • mario had me fucked on super mario 64 :D

  • n64 does not take disks it takes cartreges

  • @spider5821 The Disk Drive was only released in Japan, So it does.

  • R.I.P. earthbound 64

  • yeah..CAUSE IT DIDN'T USE DISCS

  • Imagine This Startup if it was Cartridge Tilted.

  • Disk? I never had that version..

  • @Kamilohbk This was only released in Japan. It is basically a regular N64 except with a disk drive and less games.

  • @Kamilohbk addon only in japan

  • 1:10 > 1:14 lolllll !

  • 0:16 YOU KICKED MY NINTENDO 64!!!

  • If only the 64DD wasn't a commercial failure. This could have expanded many off the N64 games we had. Someone at Nintendo should continue the 64DD.

  • N64 had a disk drive? Wat.

  • Lol double d!!!! Ahhhhhh boob joke. I'm stupid.......

  • The N64's video processor can even run the reflections :P and the bump mapping.

  • how is this fake?

  • @javacad0 It's not. The N64 Disk Drive was an add on that was only released in Japan. There WAS going to be a US release but I think it was close to the N64's lifespan ending.

  • Wow bumb mapping on a n64! Did any n64 game use bump mapping? Impressive.

  • everything in japan is better.

  • hey not fair how come my n64 never startup like that ??

  • @killuminati413 Because Maybe Japan is more creative with their suff

  • @killuminati413

It's the nintendo 64 disk drive, something that was only released in Japan.

  • 1:14 - I never thought the Nintendo 64 could do bump mapping like that.

  • @JaleSwiftpaw Nintendo 64 had powerful hardware there are several Japanese games released for it which are highly graphically advance

  • @SMGJohn It had a mips R4000 processor, which I consider very powerful even in todays standards. My bet is that huge scale NoCBased MPSoCs multiprocessors/multicomputers are to be build using the MIPS architecture, due to it's small size, low complexity and high flexibility.

  • @marlls1989 Yes, it could produce better graphics then PS2, I once owned a N64DD very powerful and some of the late games had very good graphics even better then PS2 games

  • @JaleSwiftpaw The original cant, this is the nintendo 64 Direct Drive it was never released (at least not in the US)

  • @JaleSwiftpaw This was also going to have internet connections on it.

  • @JaleSwiftpaw It's a texture.

  • @JaleSwiftpaw check out ridge racer 64

  • My favorite part is when the logo gets tiny and then "explodes" on Mario's face. :P

  • @MAHCOOOOKIE Your fake

  • @MAHCOOOOKIE XD

  • Lol mario doin random stuffz

  • I really wish they would have released this in the US. There could have been ad-on content for so many games. I'm glad Nintendo is allowing DLC on 3DS, hopefully we'll see the ad-ons that were never released for Zelda OoT.

  • @DarkRazorZ not possible, the game would of had to have that programmed into that.

  • @Flyinglevel I mean having ability for DLC, that would have to be programmed into it.

  • the n64 doesnt haz cds

  • @remektheyoshifan103 Its an add on.

  • @moho472 oh srry then.

  • The nintendo did not have disc's unless your talking about the CD drive that goes on the bottom of the n64???

  • @dirrajnoswal It wasn't even a CD add-on, it used custom floppy-like disks that could hold up to 64MB and still costed a lot more than CDs...

  • @sikthehedgehog there was a CD addon look at this e.n.wiki.pedia.o.rg/wiki/Nint.endo_64 i know im not qworng as i have one..

  • @dirrajnoswal looking at the 64DD article it says it used magneto-optical drives. Those still have nothing to do with CDs, even if they look like mini-CDs in a cartridge - and they were still handled like floppy drives in practice. And 64DD's disks were still limited to 64MB, less than 10% of a CD...

  • @dirrajnoswal well I have one that does CD's so I know I'm right I'm just saying :)

  • I wish N64 had a start up noise in general like PS1, Xbox, Segas, and all those good ones.. Instead they left it up to the game. The closest we have to a universal start-up noise, those who loved N64, was Epona galloping through Hyrule Field with that CLASSIC piano track and "It's-a me! MAR-i-oo!"

  • I want this as a screensaver.

  • @truthseeker0183 I know, what I'm saying is that the N64 -should've- been CD-ROM based from the start, so Nintendo wouldn't have had to mess with cartridges or silly add-ons like this. The 64DD failed because Nintendo expected consumers to shell out even more cash for something -still- inferior to CD-ROM.

Again, if the N64 had used CD's, they would've never lost all their 3rd party support(which they technically never fully regained), and they would've mopped up the competition easily.

  • @slightlyoutofreach01 Back then Nintendo refused to use CDs because of the loading times and were easy to copy. This is also the main reason why Nintendo turned Sony down. When the PlayStation was originally going to be the CD ROM drive for the SNES.So in a way you have Nintendo to thank for the PlayStation.Since Sony decided to make the PlayStation into a stand alone console.Nintendo would still use carts now if technology didn't force them to change to discs.

  • @xboxmodder02 Just as a minor correction, Nintendo did indeed work with Sony to produce a CD-ROM add-on to the SNES to counter the Sega CD, but they ended up dropping Sony in favor of a foreign competitor(Philips). Sony then began work on the Playstation, and Nintendo suee them to prevent it from coming out. The CD add-on project was later canceled entirely, and Philips ended up producing the CDi.

Also, Nintendo finally went with disks after their former (highly conservative) CEO stepped down.

  • Too bad they never really utilized this :(

  • Was the disc system ever released? I thought is was just an idea but was never sold.

  • @fredrickpendragon Pingas???

  • @fredrickpendragon lol and your comment has 69 thumbs up XD

  • You know, the 64DD had potential, but sadly Nintendo didn't release it in time :(

  • I found the mario add-in just amazing...

  • mario is kickn the N 64 logo's ass bad mario bad you dont get no mushrooms for a month now go to your room lmao XD

  • pity that the 64DD was never released on america

  • PS1 was better.

  • Lol, the people below me arguing about products.

  • @dumbfk12 dude i just said that ps1 isnt so bad but 64 did kick his ass eventually

  • No disc inserted? How you can put cd into console, that's cartridge based???

  • @ApachaiHapachai its the n64 DD floppy add on (used weird nintendo disks)

  • @ApachaiHapachai N64DD Second model of the N64. Disc based. They scrapped it because they didn't think disc based games were the way to go and useless...look where we are now....

  • @Yppiti

Um, no. It wasn't a "second model", it was a disc-drive addon. Nintendo did a disk drive addon before with the Famicom.

They didn't go ahead with the full release because by the time the system would have launched, CD's with many times the capacity of the 64DD disks would be readily available. It would have been an expensive system to roll out only to be have a short shelf life.

It was released only in Japan for a limited time to save face.

  • @ApachaiHapachai Look at the title. Does It say N64? No, It says 64DD, The Japan only disk-add on.

  • @lobsteros At the time, when I posted my comment, it WAS N64, not 64DD

  • @ApachaiHapachai You're Imagining things because I saw this video before you posted your comment and it said 64DD.

  • Mario can swim in land?

  • @AstropilotStudios holy crap, hes chuck norris

  • @AstropilotStudios He's Mario. He can do whatever the fuck he wants.

  • @AstropilotStudios he's like chuck norris

  • @AstropilotStudios No. That was Chuck Norris doing cosplay.

  • @AstropilotStudios sounds like chuck norris little brother

  • @dumbfk12 dude that play station was a good console so stop fckin whining

  • @dumbfk12 How long did that witty one liner take you to come up with?

  • Dude are you fucking retarded they use cartridges not disks!!!

  • @mariofan910

I hope you aren't referring to the 64DD, which did indeed use disks.

  • that was tight, never knew they had disks

  • @WarpPal they didnt it was cancelled. i think it was only released in japan

  • @WarpPal the Nintendo 64 DD (disk drive) was only released in japan and it was a commercial failure. also it had the ability to connect to the internet. :D

  • @Saiyuki2o4 If Nintendo had gotten their heads out of their asses and just made the N64 disk-based to begin with, they'd have easily crushed Sony... or at least they wouldn't have been stomped QUITE as hard.

  • im wasted or what im seeing mario in the screen XD

  • >Disk

    Are you retard?

  • @NIBkunHaremnoFan No, YOU are retard. This is not N64, This is the 64DD, which is the disk add on. Did you even read the title?

  • 1:14 I completely forgot the N64 did bump mapping....

  • before you say Nintendo 64 had no disk drive look up 64DD then post your ignorant comment

  • @PwnzorBent 64DD was an extension to the current 64 not a system on its own so yes it did have a disk drive if you purchased it :p

  • N64 had disks...? Can't recall that

  • @H078 only released in japan. there not really disk but zip drive magnettic cartridge disks

  • @skater24481

    A disc is a CD-style medium.

A disk is like a Zip drive, or a floppy disk, or like these.

Yes, this used disks. No, it didn't use Zip disks. Zip disks worked in a different manner, and stored 100MB. These stored a max of 64MB.

  • @Draknfyre if studdied the DD for 6 years. the DD runs on a compaq floppy and it can store up to 80MB. if the expansion pack is in it can go up to 120MB and if it is a cartridge + DD disk combo (like f-zero expansion) and the expansion pack it has a total of 150MB of space. ive opened up a DD cart before. its a standard floppy but with slightly alternated programming.

  • @skater24481

    You didn't study enuf apparantly.

A normal 3 1/2" floppy cannot store more than 1.38MB of data formatted. So saying it's a "standard floppy with slightly alternated programming" is completely wrong. The medium is similiar, but it's not a "standard floppy". Just like a Zip disk isn't.

TOTAL capacity and actual capacity of released disks are two different things. A standard pc can go up to something like 16GB of RAM depending on OS limitations, but that doesn't mean you have it.

  • @Draknfyre nerd

  • @sonickhable

Says the person watching a video on the 64DD bootup sequence?

  • @Draknfyre true

  • So...What was your experience with this?

  • haha mario is still adorable.

  • GOOD GOD! The sudden setup menu sound scared the hell out of me D:

  • LMFAO at 1:10 ...hes like ITS SMALL?!?!...hmm *touches* WHAT THE FUCK!

  • Thank god they didn't release zelda on the dd

  • Mario looks cute :D

  • I saw this sh*t on my n64 ^_^

  • This would be even better with Sound FX

  • they only made 9 disks for it

  • as you make out the splash screen that I do not I leave the screen goes black

  • Why am I so impressed by the fact that the ground shows reflections?

  • @AwesomeMcKillington maybe because it's a 64-bit console from the 90s?

  • hey, mario is kicking the N64 logo! arrest him!!!

  • @allkirbysongs conker killed the logo.

  • Disk?

  • @erik900ful The N64DD attachment (only released in Japan) was disk-based. This is the screen that shows up if you turn on the N64DD and don't put a disk in.

  • i love my DD

  • I wonder why this never made it to the States.

  • @mr19932001 it was a failure in japan. so nintendo didn't want to lose anymore money

  • They tortured Mario so much

  • 1:10-1:15 Mario: what the... so tiny. *taps it twice* *N64 Logo Reverts to Normal Size* WHAAA!

  • Nintendo 64 boobs

  • They know what time it is.

  • :D

  • Marios sooo cute

  • It kinda reminds me of Sega Dreamcast.

  • my n64 never did that...even if there was no game in...maybe the eurpean consoles were different programmed

  • @TightKickflip The N64 only did this if a 64DD, a disk drive sold only in Japan, was attached to the bottom of the N64. Otherwise, they have no startup screen.

  • What is a Nintendo 64 DD?

  • @FeNiXwOnG951 an Disk upgrade for the N64 that never got released.

it will had some sort of add-ons to games like master quest and majora's mask for ocarina of time, but since it never got released, master quest got released for the GC and the other add-on, majora's mask, became it's own game :)

  • I wanna nintendo 64 DD (or whatever it is).

  • i wish i had a 64DD and the games :( i got an emulator for it, but it only had mario paint. THE STUPID ONE!!!! let me explain it; it had a koopa shell catching game (got boring after like 45 seconds, for me anyway). a pixel creating thing where you can draw your own characters and stuff, only one color. (it was fun, though). and then it had all the normal mario paint stuff. but since no one has any roms for the DD, mario paint was the only one in the emulator. >__> it HAD to be mario paint.

  • When will it be released?

  • @RottenRroses December 1, 1999 (ONLY IN JAPAN)

  • @lobsteros Thanks, then it's already out. I totally missed it.

  • Meh il post anyway. If any of you have a N64 not a stupid emulator or Wii unplug your system and look at the bottom. There is a extension port. Thats where the 64DD was suppose to be. It played Dynamic Disks (sorta like floppys) that held add on information and new games. Such as you could create your own courses in F-zero and even Go online. You could create your own N64 Animation with some of the Mario Artist series of games. There is only 9 games for the 64DD with many unreleased.

  • Lol Even in 2011 New "gamer" oops sorry *ahem* Player noobs still dont know what a 64DD is XD.

  • @WiiWillRockU2. No joke dude. I feel fuckin old!

  • The Nintendo 64 can't even play disks!

  • @crozof but the 64dd can 0.0

  • @crozof This isn't the Nintendo 64. This Is the Nintendo 64DD, The Japan only add-on. It says 64DD in the title, so I don't know why you think this is the N64.

  • @viktor2008 the startup for n64 differs from game to game.

  • I'd realy like to see the real original n64 startup with the original sound and no edits. which is crearly not on youtube

  • @TheMrCustomlego Very rare Japan only disk drive add on for the n64 it had only 9 games made for it in it's short life span before it was scrapped due to unpopularity,it also had one of the earliest ideas for the Miis tested on it.

  • これどうやってやるの?

  • my 64 had a fuzzy screen when there was nothing..

  • @maddywebster95 Well that's because this is The Nintendo 64DD, Not The Nintendo 64. It is a Japan only Disk add-on. It says 64DD in the title....

  • n64 doesnt have disks
