@TheMailmail I'm in the exact same boat as you. I've never done ballet before, but I'm 15 and I want to start learning. Some of my friends do ballet and they say as you long as you have a good teacher and you do stretches to stay flexible, you should at least be able to learn the basics. If that helps.

@TheMailmail I started Ballet when I was 15, not long ago. My ballet teacher told me that this age is a good age as you are old enough to correct yourself etc and "think". Of course, three are problems like you want have a proper turn out, or full flexibility and strength and worse of all your foot flexibility. But I'm still working on it. It's just practice, practice, practice.

@mckennahaley ya u need pointe shoes and you have to take a pointe class. Wear flat ballet shoes the first day and when your teacher gives you the "ok" then you can get your pointe shoes

I never could understand why some people think men who do ballet are girly. They are truly athletes, and have a whole hell of alot of strength. I remember seeing the nutcracker on TV, and Mikal Brignakov's (probably spelling that REALLY wrong!) thighs looked like friggin treetrunks.Some of the jumps and lifts they do are unbelieveable! It's amazing how good these dancers are,and so young!

Amazing. Total body control. That's the strength of ballet, but it's not as obvious as the brute strength of contact sports, which is why people think it's easy. Even the best footballers leave some things to chance on the field. Ballet dancers leave nothing to chance.

Ballett is pure Passion! These dancers from anaheim ballett are great, i love them :) I have a question, I´m 17 and I´ve been doing ballett since 3 and a half years now, i´ve been on pointe since 2. Since about 2 years i have been training 5-6 times a week about 1 and a half to 3 hours a day... Those who say that ballet is for wimps are usually fat lazy slobs who wouldn't last even five minutes in a ballet class. Ballet is the hardest workout I have ever done in my life!
Ballet uses more muscles than almost any other sport except perhaps gymnastics. Believe me it isn't easy doing this stuff and making it look effortless. I'ld like to see ANY football, basketball, soccor player do the splits intentionally, then be able to stand up and keep going!
I just saw this thing on netflix about ballerinas. I have to say they go through a ton of shit and training just to get where there at. I have enormous respect for them
I love male ballet dancers, they're just as amazing to watch as the girls. Ballet is a beautiful art.
One thing about male ballet dancers I don't get is how people call them gay. They get to be all handsy with the girls, why wouldn't a straight guy wanna do it? ;) Hell, football players do a lot of the same stretches and different ballet moves to strengthen their muscles.

I love white people... BUT..Ballet will be ruled by black artists, its such a black person thing, like Jazz, why? because black people have the passion forged from the pain of oppression and racism to develop the heart big enough to do it justice. Sorry but that's the truth.. dont shoot black people for this, look inward at your own historical goals... your grandfather lied to you, his mentors were racist and tried to make black people look worthless and now history is rebalancing itself.

Amazing. Total body control. That's the strength of ballet, but it's not as obvious as the brute strength of contact sports, which is why people think it's easy. Even the best footballers leave some things to chance on the field. Ballet dancers leave nothing to chance.

I hate it when people always think all male ballet dancers are gay. They walk into a room full of girls in tights and leotards, every day! They lift them and dance with them and touch them! Football players on the other hand, walk on to a field with heaps of other guys wearing short shorts (in Australia) And jump all over each other. There are no girls involved. Now who are the faggots?

@hollyp275 so true. ballet is the most physically demanding and grueling career. They will be stronger and train harder than any athlete in the NFL or NBA. For hours and hours everyday they push the limits on the abilities of the human body. Now that's incredible.

Ballett is pure Passion! These dancers from anaheim ballett are great, i love them :) I have a question, I´m 17 and I´ve been doing ballett since 3 and a half years now, i´ve been on pointe since 2. Since about 2 years i have been training 5-6 times a week about 1 and a half to 3 hours a day... I know this is silly and impossible... but is there a chance that I can still become a dancer? thanks xoxo

Ballet uses more muscles than almost any other sport except perhaps gymnastics. Believe me it isn't easy doing this stuff and making it look effortless. I'ld like to see ANY football, basketball, soccor player do the splits intentionally, then be able to stand up and keep going!

I just saw this thing on netflix about ballerinas. I have to say they go through a ton of shit and training just to get where there at. I have enormous respect for them

I love male ballet dancers, they're just as amazing to watch as the girls. Ballet is a beautiful art.
One thing about male ballet dancers I don't get is how people call them gay. They get to be all handsy with the girls, why wouldn't a straight guy wanna do it? ;) Hell, football players do a lot of the same stretches and different ballet moves to strengthen their muscles.

I really want to do ballet and yes I'm a male and I don't care. I love the beauty of it. It really melts my heart and just the way they dance impacts that I just appreciate so much. I want to take ballet, but my parents thinks it's gay, but this is like my dream and I'm already 15! I don't want it to be too late, but at least I practice a lot at home, but I really want to join! you should never be ashamed if you wanna be a ballerina! ballet is an art, and despite it being hard, its amazing the rewards you get! im 13, and two of my best friends who are males do ballet, and no offence, but ur parents seriously need a reality check is they think ballet for men is gay! and if you want to start, make sure u are athletic enough to handle it. dont take no shit from anyone okay! ballet is an art, not a hangout for gay people :) tell ur parents that :)

If your parents think it's gay, tell them that you'll be in a room full of girls in leotards and tights. I'm a ballerina, and I've been dancing since I could walk. There are boys in my class and nobody thinks that they're any different than any other males out there, except that they're cooler. Be passionate, BE A BALLET DANCER!
