  • The lady called RUMER sings this song million times better. Checkout RUMER 'The moon's harsh mistress' , I wonder if you agree withe me ???

  • I love love love Celtic Woman and this is one of my favorite songs of theirs. Lisa is amazing! I wish I could find a instrumental version of this song so I can sing it at home :)

  • honestly, i hear this song and i wonder how others my age (i'm 18) can call most of what they listen to good music or half the singers talented. so i apologize on behalf of my generation for their absolute lack in taste.

  • Anybody else got here thinking it has something to do with Robert Heinlein? Lovely performance though.

  • @poiuyt975 I think of Heinlein every time I hear this song! I read his books when I was a teenager.

  • I haven't had a whole lot of experience listening to Celtic woman, mostly today. But Lisa Kelly is definitely my favorite! She has such an amazing voice, and she's so beautiful!! She melts my heart. :)

  • The pianist is so funny :p

  • Words cannot describe the impact this particular performance has on my heart and soul each and every time that I hear it.

  • Congratulations to Lisa K's sister Joanne on her marriage yesterday..

  • So, how many are left? I heard a lot of them walked away to spend time on other endeavors.

  • @CountryBuff08...Ok here's the scoop...at first there were Chloe, Lisa, Meav and Orla.....Meav and Orla left tor family time and their solo careers...Hayley was only with us for the "A New Journey" DVD and following tour... Alex and Lynn joined us before the "Song's From The Heart" DVD and tour, but they also left...Presently we have Chloe Agnew, Lisa Kelly, and Lisa Lambe...And of course Mairead Nesbitt (fiddler) who has always been here...

  • @gaeilge1O1 Good to know. That happens a lot in large groups. Especially those that have been around awhile. I see Trans Siberian Orchestra every year, and just last year, my favourite violinist left.

  • @gaeilge1O1 thats so sad...i miss the 4 of them...

  • @gaeilge1O1 @CountryBuff08 And for the Believe DVD is Lisa Kelly, Chloe, Lisa Lambe & Mairead Nesbitt, and for the Believe Tour, as Lisa K is gone for maternity, the amazing Susan McFadden has joined for 2012!

  • @Kirstieefly..Yes I know that Lisa K is not on the Believe tour...but look when I posted the comment you are referring to...By the way Susan McFadden is indeed amazing...she has stepped in and is doing a good job...

  • @gaeilge02 i know :) just thought id add in that incase anyone was wondering now hehe :)

i would absolutely love to see the tour, and hear Susan in the group, only heard some of her stuff on here! :)

  • This is a beautiful song - listen to Glen Campbell's version in concert.

  • I love Lisa's voice! It is so beautiful!

  • Jimmy Webb is a fantastic song writer, his songs have been covered by so many singers. This one is not bad, the song lends itself to her voice.

  • My favorite version of the song. I had it stuck in my head for seven hours at work today.

  • I used to listen to them all the time with my grandmother...my grandmother passed away August 8th of last year but every time I hear these songs I think of her...So beautiful.

  • I must say David Downes is a musical and entertainment genius. Not to mention one lucky guy to work such talented, beautiful and gracious performers.

  • The pianist seems romantic ♥

  • it is the singer, not the song

  • I'm so tired to people like Lady Gaga and Ke$ha who get extremely rich and famous because they do weird things and sing about sex. i feel like the music industry just keeps going down hill, it's rare that you see artist like celtic woman who make you truly appreciate music.

  • @MidnightMoondapple yes its true... :-)

  • @MidnightMoondapple

    You make my night!

  • That's a wonderful song and a great performance. I'd like to believe it's a live performance, although as a musician I have some serious doubts about that. Who else discovered what is wrong here.. ? I wonder. :-)

  • @alwin27...There's nothing wrong here, this performance was recorded LIVE for DVD. If you could watch the behind the scenes videos, you would have seen and heard that when the power failed mid song, you could still here them singing without microphones...don't let a commonly known You Tube problem fool you into thinking they are lip syncing...

  • @gaeilge1O1 at 1:38 the piano player seems to play something else than I hear. He hits the B with his thumb instead of his pink. But maybe you're right and I am wrong. :-)

  • @alwin27. I don't have any doubts that she performed the song live. I heard her sing it live at two concerts from close range and both times, it was obvious she was singing (I could hear her voice directly from stage). It hasn't been my favorite piece by Lisa Kelly, but it was done very well here. In fact, as good as this performance was, the one I heard live in April was actually a bit better than this.

  • @1sorryham In that case: I apologize for my earlier assumption that I discovered a flaw. I also thought I heard some auto tuning (which could have been done afterwards) but I could be wrong about that too. Lets conclude she's just a very good singer! :-)

  • i feel in love with this version the most though not a big fan of celtic woman. so many different emotional feelings as i listen to this song. i wouldn't be able to sing this song cause i'll be crying through the whole song.

  • i love lisa

  • Thank you gaeilge 101. Amazing how that song came about. It's one of

my favorites, especially after reading the translation of the lyrics and

hearing what you revealed. Thanx again.

  • I don't want to say "erotic" for fear of sounding like a perv, but there is a sensuality about how these three work together.

  • LK, are you here ? I'd love to say what your path has done for me. Someday,

I know that the awesome heart you express within CW will be an amazing gateway for humanity that has never yet been beheld. You are the fine mistress which can lead all to appreciate how precious is each woman and each man, the very land where loneliness never existed.

  • Where was this filmed!? Beautiful place!

  • @Kevinkoch2443 Ireland, County Wicklow, Powerscourt House and Gardens (Just south of Dublin), July 29th and 30th, 2009 Thanks to Aholinka. Check out Nella Fantasia, also filmed just down the garden a bit from the

    house.

  • @chonesong...If you are talking about the video of Chloe singing Nella Fantasia, that wasn't even in this performance...That is from the Aug 2006 "A New Journey" performance at Slaine Castle

  • @gaeilge1O1 Hey, thank you so much ! I forgot completely about

that version (I've seen 3 so far). This one is listed as "Gabriel's

Oboe" as I think about it...it's one with Mr. Agnew playing Oboe

as well as Chloe walking about the gardens and fountain as

she sings...a video set outdoors on a beautiful day.

Thanks again for the comment. Take care.

  • @chonesong...Well the one I mentioned has her dad David Agnew playing the oboe too....Gabriels Oboe is the original music and comes from the movie "The Mission"... It was originally written as an instrumental, Sarah Brightman kept bugging the writer (Ennio Morricone) to let her put words to the music. After several denials he finally relented and lyrics were added by Chiara Ferraù..and we now have Nella Fantasia

  • You all should stop with the bad comments about these women. They are living proof of Pure Beauty, inside and out.

  • I believe i just died and went to musical heaven. Her voice is ABSOLUTELY gorgeous!!!

  • I can't get enough of her singing this song. It's incredible.

  • I'm not sure I enjoy her take on this song in terms of facial expressions. I absolutely love her performance, and when not watched you can hear the lament in her voice, but she's smiling through most of it. I mean, she stops at the end, but it just throws me off when she's smiling and "happy" singing it. Is that just me?

  • @shurtugalgjj

It's kinda hard 2 explain but it's more of a hope-through-hopelessness kind of smile.

  • Wut is that thing on Lisa's back?

  • @Karen21242.....If you look closely there are 2 of those "things" on Lisa's back.....One is a transmitter for her microphone and the other is a receiver for her ear pieces.

  • @gaeilge101

Oh, ok. Wut's the ear piece 4? I know, I know, probably a stupid question.

  • @Karen21242...Well instead of having "monitor" speakers around the stage, the performers wear ear pieces, so they can hear the orchestra, choir, the other performers etc...

  • @gaeilge101

Ah ok, that makes sense! Thanx! U have been a big help! :D

  • Pure beauty at it's finest. What a soul stirring voice!!!

  • This is SO beautiful! Lisa's songs are always so gorgeous! "Tripped and missed my stars" is probably the most gorgeous line of the song. She does it fantastically!

  • I am sure Robert Heinlein would be proud.

  • the conductor/piano player looks so young!!!!

  • @meyer537... David Downes will be 36 this year.....

  • omg i love this song so much i might sing it for my school's next concert

  • I haven't heard a bad performance yet. Beautiful!

  • @Lumberman84 Because they are incapable to perform "badly"... It simply cannot be. Otherwise there would be a paradox that would destroy the space-time continuum or something! :)

  • I feel like lisa kelly is the leader of Celtic Woman

  • @Jojo99987 I feel like Lisa Kelly is my favorite...wait...I KNOW she is my favorite!

  • This song is perfect for my life right now... I love you Lisa

  • i love them

  • @nessieandcarlieTV Whod Doesn't? ;)

  • I can't believe this is live. I DON'T believe this is live. Impossible performance, superhuman, totally impossible!! But if it is real, I will fly anywhere in the world to witness this performance by my own eyes. :)

  • @SpeedyBozar...Well get ready to fly then...This performance was recorded for DVD everything is live, they sing every note to every song and Mairead plays every note. These talented ladies wouldn't lower themselves down to the level of a Miley Cyrus or Lady Gaga....These ladies are for real......now to see them live check out the U.S. schedule at celticwoman . com....

  • @SpeedyBozar, yup, it's live (I have heard her to this live *twice*). I last heard her sing it live in August from the 2nd row (about 20 feet away from her), and it was even better than this version. I do sort of wish David had put in just a little more accompaniment for the last part, as was done with the Linda Ronstadt version, but even without the extra support, Lisa still manages to pull it off nicely. Now, be sure and get those tickets!

  • @1sorryham I will definately go to see these girls by my own eyes. Her B4 is electrifying, so sweet color and perfect dynamic of the tone.

  • @SpeedyBozar This is 100% live!! Ask anyone and research it all you want..

  • @GalOnHunt I believe you... a real artist

  • Beautiful, like always. Even on their worst days, they don't disappoint.

  • David looks like he's in heaven while playing the piano with Lisa singing :)

Actually... He ALWAYS looks like he's in heaven when he is up on stage with these beautiful women with magnificent voices

  • I love all the voices of Celtic Woman but Lisa has a particularly fine voice. The control she has at all levels is extraordinary. Her stage background makes her a joy to watch on stage. She truly feels a song and delivers that. See her sing Caledonia - outstanding.

  • I love this song! Lisa's voice is lovely! What are is the meaning, or story behind this song? I'm trying to understand it.

  • There are several versions of this song performed by women with beautiful voices (Ronstadt, Toneff, et al.) but none match the melancholy of Webb's voice and his version with cellos and oboe. This performance was a great opportunity to listen to a beautiful voice, and the beautiful notes of a well played violin and piano but the words and their sentiment are now lost.

I know I'm going to tick some people off but I believe the music (or the song) is more important than the performer.

  • @davekingpt You don't tick me off at all. Music is personal, and nobody can force each other to feel the same way with music. I love Webb's version as much as this version. I can hear the melachony in Lisa's voice. And of course it's the music that counts. But this is a music production with theatrical influences, there need to be a good designed stage and attention on the looks of the performers.

  • @davekingpt While music is very subjective in ways, it is objective in others. I listened to Ronstadt, Webb and Baez and I really believe that the arrangement with Downes and Mairead in this version as well as the extraordinary control that Lisa Kelly has in her voice is inimitable.

  • I recently download Rumer's version.. She sounds like Karen Carpenter.. very different but both versions equally amazing.. Try it out on Itunes guys.. see what you think..

  • You close your eyes and hear her sing, and you think there can't possibly be anything as beautiful as her voice. Then you open your eyes and see her, and change your mind.

I can't listen to this song without crying.

  • Great performance!!!

  • Lovley musak????

    Research: MK-ULTRA

  • i love lisas voice! combined with maireads excellent violin skills this is perfection!

  • Yes it's true, but did you know that he's the most gentle mister and a lover of the soil.

  • This song is gorgeous

  • Acredito que Deus de vez em qundo nos manda seus anjos aqui na terra para nos fazerem felizes, muito brigado meu Deus.....

  • No matter how many times I watch this, I swear I fall in love more each time!

  • Why wouldn't David adore Lisa? She is perfection.

  • Lisa Kelly is sooo beautiful, and she has a beautiful voice .This is a very nice cover. (BTW, you can tell that David Downes really adores Lisa; he gazes at her w/ such warmth and affection. Sweet!)

  • @071949 Ain't it the greatest to see 2 people in love that way. There really is love that exists for everyone, they're proof ! (Not just our spouse, though, of course, that's is much deeper; the source of life and the other, the source of happiness, needing each other, really, to exist.

  • "the moon's a harsh mistress and the sky is made of stone."

  • too bad the skirts of their dresses look like they have very stiff lining underneath the silk overlayer. makes em look lumpy :(

  • @applecalypse

Yes, I'm not a fan of those dresses as well. Although this kind of dress fits Máiréad the violinist pretty wel. But who cares..? Beautiful ladies and beautiful music :)

  • @applecalypse Oh I think your response is cute, kinda like lumpy oatmeal; just makes me love the cook somemore !

  • @applecalypse oh and ps, your name is so awesome. I wish I could, with the stroke of my hand, change that word to your version !! I'm just gonna keep trying that 'till it

    happens

  • lisa always talk to the crowd..more then the others do

  • mairead and lisa are both perfect only if they preform together

  • I will always cherish meeting Lisa and Chloe at the Meet & Greet after their concert on April 28, 2010. Such talent and such beauty. Memories to last a lifetime.

  • I can't wait to go to their consert in a few days. I hope she sings this, it would make my life if I could hear her sing this live x3

  • "i tripped and missed my star, god i fell and fell alone..." I don't think i've ever heared anything more powerful yet pretty!

  • OMG! Celtic Woman covered this song? I love this song! Oh and it was covered so beautifully! Thank you so much for this upload ^_^

  • Going from "The Voice" to this, it's Lisa Kelly all the way :)<3

  • Lisa is one of those rare artists that have a voice so beatiful that they don't have to do anything special to impress you. Lisa (and all the members of Celtic Woman actually) can just sing a simple melody, but it sounds so amazing!

  • In my dream world I'm married to Chloe... :)

  • i listen to these young ladies every day . i will never get tired of hearing them sing. they are the best.they have the voices of angels

  • I would love for Lisa, Mairead and David to make a CD together with songs like this one. Just wonderful.

  • Oh you girls were amazing last night!!!! This song has so much more power in real life! Just pure bliss the whole way through! THANK YOU LISA AND CHLOE FOR THE AUTO GRAPHS(and not telling security that I snuck into the Meet and Greet)... I can't wait to see you again in September, even though I'll be in Phx, I'm so driving back to Tucson to see you!!!

  • I want to see these spectacular ladies live so soo much. This is beautiful, I think she is my favorite

  • I know fetish better than this! Go over to Check out the details by going to my utube channel. . .

  • If...no....WHEN I hear this live, I will absolutely bawl my eyes out. There is no question.

No one on this earth has a voice like Lisa's. It is truly a gift from God.

    Lisa you are my hero!!!

  • i never heard this song done so beautiful before. lisa you are fantastic

  • When I watched the preview-video from Songs from the Heart, I thought this would be such a depressing, boring song. Oh how wrong... It's Lisa Kelly for goodness sake :O Definately my favorite song of her at the moment. A song of emotion, the struggle of live, with all Lisa's vocal abilities, like a lullaby and with power at the same time... And the atmosphere seems so right for it, darkness and some lightspots, like she is singing in an old wood. Accompanied by a fairy, called Maíréad Nesbitt

  • Moving rendition, amazingly lovely.

  • Sorry....I misunderstood. What the hell does it matter...They absolutely rock!!!!

  • If this doesn't touch your heart....You are dead.

  • She has the perfect emotion for this song, its like it was written for her to sing!

  • @ChristneDaae also true!

  • @ChristneDaae This in a since was written for Lisa, Lisa and David Downes have worked together for years. So when he does an arrangement, it IS her song....

  • @gaeilge101 Actually this song was written by Jimmy Webb back in the 70's i believe. I do agree with you....Lisa owns this one....the only version I've heard that comes close is Linda Rondstat. I love the space in this version...piano, violin and Lisa's amazing voice.....nothing else.

  • @winedoctor011 Yes I realize that and I never said any different, I only stated that David Downes did this arrangement for Lisa to perform...

  • This is emotion and dynamic; something Cloe should have apllied in her rendition of When U Believe ;)

  • Very agreed. Lisa really delivers the emotion behind the song, and she makes it very moving, and she sing it stunning too. Chloë sings When You Believe very good, but I don't see there the emotion what should be portrayed..

  • @classicalgal14 chloe's voice is just the kind that is really sweet while lisa has this strong and mothery voice so i agree with you but when you believe was a lot better and full of emotion then some of the other songs that she has sung in the past.

  • i love this. my favorite song and her voice is so appropriate. i can't see anyone else singing this song.

  • i love this ladies, i love how lisa's accent when really irish in 00.36- 00.38

  • I love The Moon's a Harsh Mistress & O America. I am American by the way.

  • Wow, this is the reality we faced, looking back, it would otherwise be unbearable without hope. Imagining forsaking the moon itself and the sky as if of stone ! God save us.

  • This song is absolutely amazing, I'm originally from Ireland as a boy but always a joy to hear some tunes from pretty ladies.

  • I ablosultely love this song!!! Lisa Kelly is my favorite!!! I love celtic waoman!!

  • Jimmy Webb is a genius.

  • this is really a beautiful song good going lisa

  • I am crying, so beautiful:D She is and the song is:D

  • i went to see them last night, and they were spectacular (for lack of a stronger word). they sang this song, and it was beautiful. it's so different watching mairead live and on video. i definitely prefer watching her live. it's so cool to watch her jump and dance around the stage. ♥♥♥♥♥

  • thanks for sharing!

  • any time

  • wow, i think i listened to this five times in the last hour! this gives me the chills everytime!

  • i like her facial expression at 2:30-31

  • hahaa

  • She has an amazing voice. All of these singers sound like angels to me! :)

  • i totally agree it is exactly what i tell ppl. the amazing CW singers r angels who sing me to sleep at night and i love lisa the most. shes breathless

  • I have listened to versions of this song by Joan Baez, Judy Collins, and Jimmy Webb. I respectfully disagree with you, dangmills. I would say that David's arrangement and Lisa's performance are on par with any of these. I can feel the lament in Lisa's version. It tuggs at my heart.

That's the great thing about music. You can be moved by one person, and I by another. It does not make one right and another wrong, just different.

  • True there are opinions ;) but it just seems to happy... even if there was happiness added, it doesn't seem bittersweet. I really don't have time to bicker about opinions... but I think "Send Me A Song" and "May It Be" (I'm amazed I didn't hate her when I heard it) were sadder... maybe like those arrangements I'd be happy.

  • I feel like they took it as a bittersweet memory and not as a lament. It depends upon how they interpreted the song. It's just another interpretation and should be taken as it is and not compared to others.

  • one word...amazing.

  • Lovely song and beautiful cover!

  • oh my god Lisa! Can a woman b more beautiful then this?

  • Oh My Gosh She Is So Beautiful And She Sings Beautiful Too!

  • this song gives me one more reason to love Lisa (and Mairead)

  • Lovely song. Remarkable when you discover it was written by boy wonder 1960s composer Jimmy Webb, the writer of 'Up, Up & Away', 'MacArthur Park', 'Wichita Lineman', 'By the Time I get to Phoenix', 'Galveston' etc etc.

  • The first time I saw this performance was on PBS in HD; I was speechless with tears in my eyes. Just now viewing it on You Tube, yielded the same result.

One of the all-time greatest songs performed by one of the all-time greatest singers, Lisa and the rest of the Celtic Woman are angels sent by God for our enjoyment.

  • I love every song that they use for this concert. I love you all, girls!

  • There is not a greater trio in my mind than David, Lisa, and Mairead.
