  • Your tutorial worked very well, my launch model 60GB PS3 is running flawlessly with a new laser installed. Glad I did this instead of sending my PS3 back to Sony.

  • Thank you so much! awesome tutorial! My new lens and mech is installed and working great!!!

  • i tried this tutorial and now my ps3 will not take any discs. It seems that the disc drive has no power. Any advice ?

  • @twave50 Hook the power cable back up to the drive...it's a small wire with a grey end that is near the front of the BR drive...

  • where can u get a new laser mech from???

  • yay finally xD lol tnks =D

  • This really helped me my lens wasn't working thanx

  • THIS VIDEO ABSOLUTELY WORKED FOR ME.

  • My Ps3 Is A 40 Gb Model . My Laser Is Been Broken. How Do I Know Which Laser I Need Buy 4 Fix My Ps3? Plz Answer

  • i know it's asking a lot from you but...can you make one of these but for PS3 slim?

  • Theres a lot of types of PS3 Lasers, so how do i know which one to buy that will work for my PS3?

  • Putting the cover back on is much tougher with the 60gb launch model. The card readers are a pain to fit the casing around.

  • Piece of piss really isin't it! Only kidding, thanks for posting

  • Just finished the job now :)

    Thanks for a great tutorial!!

  • Thank you so much brother. My PS3 lives once again!!!

  • where did you end up getting the lens from? I am trying to figure out where is the best place to buy it.

  • @thekid0150 hey i got mine from ebay, its like 50 something bucks

  • id laugh so hard if the ps3 still didnt work, then id be mad because i wasted time watching the vids.

  • Thank you! I have searched lots of these and yours is by far the best, nice slow and clear. My husband will be a happy bunny when he comes home to find his PS working again and medal of honor still saved to continue play!! Excellent.

  • Thanks dude!!

    cheers!

  • thanks buddy

  • this is great. I just finished the repair and it works great. It didn't take much time and it was easy. By the way, I'm not into this disassembling and putting it back together. Thanks supermodchips

  • Thanks for the comprehensive "how to".

Very informative and helpful, I would not have been able to have repaired my sons PS3 without it.

  • i have a ps3 that wont read disks and my friends ps3 YLOD'd on him. could i just swap the entire blu ray drive from his ps3 or is it necessary to go in deeper and swap the actual laser mech???

  • How much is the laser mech? my PS3 keeps freezing every time I put a game on

  • @DFMotorSports2 its about 70 pounds. its well worth it. i bought it on ebay and did the whole process. it works!

big thx for the clip Supermodchips. u guys are awesome.

  • Very helpful and informative. My PS3 now fully working again, at a cost of £41. Just remember the difference between a phillips head screw and a phillips head screwdriver and it'll make it even clearer.

Oh, and the "Sony security screwdriver" is a T10 TORX, if anyone needs to find something to remove the first screw.

  • Thanks! Great instructions!

  • Thanks, sir!!! Great video. My PS3 is running again.

  • Thanks for the video helped me a lot, got my laser replaced and works fine lets hope it lasts.

Bought on ebay you can get the deck with it very easy to install thanks to this video.

  • I just revived my PS3 thanks to this tutorial - Thanks a lot! FFXIII here I come again!

In case anyone was wondering: With the first PS3 model (the one with the card reader), there are two more screws and one extra cable to take care of. They are easy to spot though, and the rest is exactly the same, so no problem to follow this guide at all.

  • @Efrye666 thanks alot i was about to post about this exact same question.. i have an E01 version with the reader on the left of the disc tray, theres only just one more cable and 2 screws for that?

  • Yeah, that's all I noticed. The extra cable comes from the card reader obviously, and is connected with the top of the case which you have to lift up, if I remember correctly. I think the additional screws were also on that top part, but you can't really miss them anyway.

Just make sure to also buy the right laser: From what I've been told it has to be a "kes 400A" laser or "kem 400AAA" laser mech for the older models.

  • @Efrye666 yeah i've found some online for a competitive price.. just hope they ship to canada :P thanks for the info!

  • Would a laser mech from a 80gb PS3 work in a 40gb ps3?

  • yaaay.. now where can u buy a laser LOL

  • Have watched any number of these tutorials from different users about how to do this operation. This one is absolutely the best.

As with anything like this- watch the whole thing before you do it, pay attention to part orientations in the video, keep track of your screws and you are in like Flynn- err, ahh, 'cash' as they say now a days.

Superb work fellas. You should consider doing the same thing with cars.

  • a bit of a late reply, but my laser worked perfectly and now 2 months down the track, still working like a dream!!! thanks

  • hey if it is the laser wiuld the playstation no bring anything uo when you put in the game because that is what mine is doing please respond

  • For people who are having trouble putting their disc in their drives, remember the 3 screws that are near the edge? You have to put those under the metal things instead of putting over them

  • i got my disc stuck because of this

  • ok i had the same problem like 5 days ago. my disc got stuck, i took looked at another video to take it apart, did that, then put it back together and it did the same thing, but then i took it back apart, got the disc, and then stared moving the plastic place holders back and forth, i guess it just needed to be moved manually just to get the rythem back and then when i put it back together it worked perfectly. the good news is if its stuck then the bluray works just take it apart and try agian

  • @hitman

u should take ur PS3 apart first and check wat laser it uses it has the model number on the mech but i believe urs uses a KEM-410 ACA

  • Awesome videos!! i get my laser tomorrow or the next day, so i'll be happy to inform what the outcome is! Cheers

  • Hey, did you fix your PS3 with the laser you got ??

  • the laser took longer than expected, but when it arrived i worked in sync with the video and 2 months its still working perfectly well, make sure you look at ebay i picked mine up for $50 including postage and i havent once looked back!!

  • omg i thought this would be harder than a psp cos its bigger and better and what not, turns out thisis shit easy lol.

psps are so small and easy to brake when u take them apart, so if i can do that i can do this anyday :P

  • my ps3 laser broke. i know how to fix it but i dont know which model laser i need. i have a 40 gb and i think i got it before 2007. please respond. THANKS!

  • hey uhm he only use philips right for the whole ps3 or did use torx aswell

  • nice vid but the busy road with the noisy cars anoyed me ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh brrrrrrrrrrrrummmmm

  • thanks man

  • fuck i shouldve never done this

i kinda messed up my ps3 more

it wont even take in disks now

  • @fuckthegov123 they put repair to get more views ...its replace...k

  • @fuckthegov123 YOU CAN FIX THAT! i just had that problem, the alignment on your loader is wrong, just look up a video such as "loader alignment for ps3"

  • @fuckthegov123 You might have broken one of the flat flex cables. google flat flex cables and you'll see what it looks like. Make sure its connected properly.

  • @fuckthegov123 mine too bro

  • @fuckthegov123 I did the same thing, but when I was putting the completed drive back in, I put the one of the wires in upside down. I switched it and it worked....so yeah.

  • THANKS FOR YOUR HELP,I have just replaced my laser after watching your brillant videos.I changed it because it didn't play all games which work in my sons. But after I changed my laser for a new one it has still the same fault.Could I have a faulty new laser and how can I test it ? look forward to your reply many thanks

  • you did good thanks for the turtorial

  • i managed to get my 40 gig ps3 replaced with an 80 gig ps3 not only did i gain more memory but i also gained, £17 credit note, a new years warrenty and a duelshock controller (i only had the sixaxis before).
