its supposedly $100k rent a month or some bullshit..no wonder that sellout Varvatos charges bullshit prices. Try $170 for a Ramones shirt...what a filthy scumbag.
for those asking about keeping the place open; Someone mentioned already - it wasnt the back money as much as the owners raising the rents sky high. Same happened with the Bottom Line and other clubs. NYU is one of NYC's biggest landlords and pushed these guys out for more profitable tenants. With the Bottom Line, they owed like 200K in back rent - which Bruce Springsteen actually offered to pay, as he had a historic stand there in the early 70's, but high rent made it not profitable.
That guy looks a little young to have been the soun engineer...in the late seventys lik 77-78-79 the sound engineer was a guy who was guitarist for a band called SON....they were a 'Chicago" inspired act.......and he was an increadable sound guy when SON played you could really hear what the sound system was capable of....but ...like...if you were "james Chance" he wouldnt go to very much trouble... quite Amusing sometimes
really glad to see this doc..of CBGB..It was great to have been part of this unique place in my high school years in the late 70's and to have seen some amazing performers so up close and personal.. ill never forget it...PEACE
Why groups produced at CBCG didn't help to pay the 90'000 $usd? Is not too expensive to pay wiht all participation. why? don't understand this not punk attitude...buerkk
@swissuiza there was some kind of show to help pay i dont know who was invloved but i distinctly remember the Van zant guy from the Sopranos had a hand in it...but i guess it wasnt enough BRC wanted the building and they had the money they are an organization that helps mentally ill homeless people,,,they have a housing place next door and a shelter on Lafayette between Houston and Bleeker
@swissuiza it wasnt just the 90 thou debt the landlord raised the rent up to an outlandish figure and Hilly refused to pay it and I dont blame him RIP, HK
my dad used to hang out there every weekend almost in the 70's and he said all they cooked was some nasty ass chili and he got fucked up one night and actually ate it nasty junky ridden chili
@fjollaize1 you obviously know fuck all about hilly or cbgbs ,thanks to hilly ,a lot of good music came to fruitition. what a fucking stupid statement ,sold out.only a fucking mummys boy rich cunt can come out with such shite.
