During WWII we had millions of men living in tents and food rationing. WWII didn't get out of the depression. Thing didn't not go back to normal till Truman. Truman deregulated markets and removed price controls, and reduce government spending

Keynesians make a good argument and I really think they debunked the classical economists of the time who said the economy would self correct itself & when FDR went back to a balanced budget, the economy stopped recovering.
The Classical Economist were closer to the truth than Keynes. Under both Hoover and FDR there was massive intervention in the economy that prevented recovery. For example, FDR created a 90% tax bracket. People reacted by taking their money out of business investments and into municipal bods that were tax exempt. People stopped investing the economy under FDR.
I do think the war helped, but not in the way FDR is given credit for. Look at the world after WWII. Industry was destroyed in all countries but the US. If you were French and wanted to buy a refrigerator you really had not choice but to buy a US made one.

Clinton balanced the budget, and the recession back then was fucking nothing. After 9/11, Bush told everyone to "shop", thus delaying the real hit until 05/06'. The hit is much worse than it had to be due to Bush deregulating the housing market extensively. Well the cpu estimate is notoriously low for all weapon platforms, and if you factor in the costs of workers, machinery, etc it adds up. I remember reading somewhere (I cannot remember the particular periodical) that the costs push each to about $1-2 billion over the life of the aircraft (cradle to grave). So you make a good point, but I think to say that FDR's New Deal, or the war, played no role in getting us out of the depression would be exaggerating. Keynesians make a good argument and I really think they debunked the classical economists of the time who said the economy would self correct itself & when FDR went back to a balanced budget, the economy stopped recovering.

The Classical Economist were closer to the truth than Keynes. Under both Hoover and FDR there was massive intervention in the economy that prevented recovery. For example, FDR created a 90% tax bracket. People reacted by taking their money out of business investments and into municipal bods that were tax exempt. People stopped investing the economy under FDR.

Clinton balanced the budget, and the recession back then was fucking nothing. After 9/11, Bush told everyone to "shop", thus delaying the real hit until 05/06'. The hit is much worse than it had to be due to Bush deregulating the housing market extensively. Not to mention the already increased poverty rates resulting from Bush's genius "trickle down effect" economic policies.

Truman removed wage and price controls that FDR put in place during the 1930s. This allowed the market to work, something that FDR would not allow through out the 30 and 40s. FDR set prices on everthing including dry cleaning.

we shouldn't "get rid" of those military programs, we definitely need to continually make military advances... but we could certainly scale them back. The F-22 is useful and necessary, but we don't need 200 of them, 50 would be fine... and that would cut like $300 billion in costs - which could then be used for healthcare

Too bad we already had nearly 200 of them by the time anyone managed to cut the program, p.s. last cost per unit estimate was 356 Million USD so cutting the project off at 50 units would have saved 53.4 Billion USD.

Well the cpu estimate is notoriously low for all weapon platforms, and if you factor in the costs of workers, machinery, etc it adds up. I remember reading somewhere (I cannot remember the particular periodical) that the costs push each to about $1-2 billion over the life of the aircraft (cradle to grave). Taking the high end, we're talking about $300 billion over the course of maybe 10 years.

Hmm..what did Bush accomplish in 9 months? His compliance with 9/11 and the slow death of our Constitutional rights? The birth of the Patriot Act, suspension of Habeus Corpus to then eventually sign NSPD-51 in August of 2007 to power grab when that missing Barksdale warhead detonated that the USAF "allowed" to disappear along with the deaths of officials aligned in the process of the loss. I'm waiting to see how long before "they" detonate it because Obama won't completely follow NWO protocols.

The "real Obama" is the one that has done nothing to fix the financial mess of this country. Keep spending, and we will continue to watch more and more democrats be replaced by republicans.
