@anotherdumbmonkey I figured you'd come back. Y'know, instead of using all this energy saying dumb shit, why don't you actually google some of those guys I mentioned? You'll learn what true genius is. Are you afraid of something? Do you think that listening to real geniuses will, somehow, diminish your love for McCartney & Winehouse? It won't my friend. It'll simply help you understand where the bar really is.
@anotherdumbmonkey It's so lame that you keep dignifying it by responding. That's typical of someone with immature sensibilities. THAT'S why you think Amy, a pop tart, was a genius. You really don't know any better. Ciao.
I agree, man choose to get addicted or not. It is a consequence of our actions. We choose to do good or bad. We simply like addictions because we can escape reality and they make us feel good for a while. But give no eternal happiness. Deceases are almost always also caused by our bad lifestyle and eating habits. It is easy not to take responsibility and blame others.
@anotherdumbmonkey You've already let the entire world know how limited your scope is. Essentially, you're not familiar with true genius so you feel comfortable calling Winehouse one. What you call a "shopping list of names" is what music heads call "art". Fail.

@ToxicAmber143 I agree. I think she sobered up enough to see that Belgrade performance and felt sorry for herself and depression took over and she ended the pain.
People don't become addicted to drugs for the fun of it, They take drugs recreationally for the fun of it. it IS a real illness, i can attest to that, being a recovering addict myself ... but unfortunately it's a disease the average person gets thrown in prison for.
@cjf334 Drugs do not grant a person magical singing talent. The lyrics are not the reason for her sucess. Her soulful vocals and natural talent are what got her 5 grammys. Those 5 grammys made her famous.
Ineffective treatment and acknowledgement of Winehouse's addiction killed her. Her addictions had been well known and overplayed by the media for the last few years. Now everyone is back peddling as if this was some unseen tragedy. I almost think that the media and her managers wanted this to happen. I personally never liked her music, but why do people go after the addict as if the addict has a choice. Its no different than bashing someone with bi-polar disorder.
@MichaeloooleahciM i agree with you. people generally just don't understand addiction. Sure we can blame the person but it's pointless. They simply struggle with the same impulsive stimulation-seeking brain we ALLLLLL HAVE. If you'r not currently addicted to drugs, then be damn thankful your brain that controls you is satisfied with what you've been given because if it wasn't satisfied... there's nothing you can do to stop it from getting what it needs. it WILL get what it needs, so watch out.
I don't really care that she died. She didn't die in some glorious way to help out others, she most likely died of drugs. Her death doesn't affect me as a fan, and it doesn't affect me as a friend or family member. We should all stop caring about this and worry about our own lives and the people in them. People die all the time, this is nothing out of the ordinary. But for the people who are actually affected by her death, in a real way, I'm sorry for your loss.
I wish The Young Turks would stop gossiping. Yes, you were guilty of making fun of her....but not a little bit....and quite brutally so.
She probably died of a heart attack, but we'll probably never know because her body has been cremated.
Stick to criticizing corruption among authority figures and ditch your gossip part of the show. You can talk about the arts without getting into the petty shiit.
Drug addiction is a disease, it's extremely hard to kick once you're hooked but she didn't even try to really help herself; I think she was that far into it that she couldn't even think straight. I think it affected her brain.
With that said, yes, she was a brilliant and genius musician but we don't know what went on in her life (maybe trauma or abuse) to make her abuse drugs or drive her to that point.
@eaox1 She's NOT another useless celebrity. She's a talented young women who sadly took the wrong road and ended up like what we see now. You're a dick, that is all I have to say. I would love to see if you're actually half as talented as her. No, right? Though so.
Why can't you speak ill of the dead anyway? Are the dead people going to get mad? I've always hated that expression because it feels like religious nonsense. Amy Winehouse was an idiot. Don't do hard drugs all day long and you don't die young from a drug overdose. It's pretty simple.
Explain to me why it's not okay. She killed herself through a stupid drug addiction. That's no ones fault but her own. She's was an idiot. What are you missing?
It's not like she's going to come back from the dead and haunt me or something. It's not like it matters if she's alive or dead. There are a million times more important things to worry about than the death of some washed up, useless, drug addicted celebrity. I honestly don't know the first thing about her, nor do I care.
@SSky06 you dont know what your talking about man lol. You probably live in suburbia where everything is the same and judging those who rise above the mediocrity that numbs your own day-to-day life brings you to a temporary artificial state of self-respect... that is until it quickly wears out and you find yourself at another youtube video judging yet another stranger, always in search of that self-respect. You are more familiar with addiction than you probably give yourself credit for
Nice psychobable, but none of what you just tried to infer over the internet about me is true. I don't live in suburbia (I don't know what 'everything is the same' is even supposed means anyway), I don't judge people simply because it 'numbs me' (i.e., hearing a drug addict died of an overdose just makes me laugh since it's obvious), and how would I draw self-respect from judging someone I don't care about anyway? Oh I feel so inflated now that I've judged a drug addict! Weeee!
I know tons of people will disagree, but why do people act like weed and alcohol are good ways to improve your sense of well being. I know they aren't the same as cocaine an heroine, so I'm not trying to say either will surely kill you. But what happened to not needing chemicals of some kind to manage your mood. Unless a medical condition is involved I still think people especially kids should be encouraged to fill their lives with something more than a chemical high.
Most of what Cenk said is wise. However, I really don't think Amy would have been the artist she was without the pain of her drug addictions. The fact is that she chose to be a junkie, and that certainly supplemented her music. You can hear the pain in her voice; the emotion, the struggle. Its tough for artists, because drugs, (hard and soft) truly are sources of emotional, spiritual, and nostalgic adventure. But as we all know, these things can consume. RIP to the best pop artist out there.
Well many people go to church. And in my opinion it has everything to do with religious beliefs and the afterlife. Humans are spiritual beings in essence. Freedom of speech, simple as that.
@royalsteven No it's not my opinion alone. The subject of this is Amy Winehouse died and you dare to preach your lunatic religion? They both have nothing to do with each other. Go troll in church.
Well, it doesn't have to be lunatic does it? You cannot generalize like that. Like I said dieing and the afterlife has everything to do with this. I said I hope she can forgive herself and God can to get to heaven. I said what I said and that is clear.
@royalsteven That is NOT what you said, you said 'this wouldn't have happened if she was addicted to religion' which is an outlandish statement. It is lunatic. The whole idea behind religion is a sick and despicable thing and I resent it, it disgusts me.
@StrugglingActorBlog You have no way of knowing that. You are not psychic. Hell, you didn't even actually know her, so don't go around acting as if you somehow have goddamned privileged information concerning her and her mind. Jesus, people on the internet, think they freakin' know everything...
Amy Crackhouse lived his life the way he wanted to. He died at an "early age" but he probably lived a much more fruitful life than most people do who live up to 70, 80 years old.
@KamuiSeph i think she was one of the most impressive young singer/songwriters i've seen in YEARS! She was a clever songwriter & the kind of singer that marries soul & jazz impressively. if you didn't see talent there, that's your loss. i was personally looking forward to a 3rd album comeback.
I feel like I'm the only person in the world who is not a fan of Whinehouse and who wouldn't buy that archaic 60's music at gunpoint.
I criticise this annoying "Robot voice rap" of recent years quite a bit but at least it's some original bullshit using new technologies and contemporary influences.
Whinehouse just feels like a tribute singer to me, same with Gaga. If I wanted either I would just buy a dirt cheap Motown mega compilation or some Madonna's old stuff.
The more access people have the more that society will use. You can see the same results on alcohol.
More people use it today than during the prohibition. While I am not against any society having access to some altering substances I do not see the point in making more drugs legal or in any case legalizing dangerous ones.
I take it with your framing that your friends use Heroine now then since its not legal?
@Lobos222 more people drink alcohol in the USA today than under prohibition because it's not illegal, but people boot-legged alcohol under prohibition and made moonshine, which is worse quality... making drugs illegal won't necessarily eradicate the problem of drug abuse, but rather place it on a pedestal and create a sub-culture of uber drug users and abusers :(
i think, not to be sounding awefull or something, i sometimes think it's better for her that she died.. she never showed any signs of getting better..and started to pull in dione aswell.. so i hope she rests in peace and is in a better place. end of story.
It appears to have been drink, more than the drugs.
You should watch Amy during the early years - "Stronger Than Me" on Jools Holland for example... she was brilliant back then, and the reason singers like Joss Stone and Adele have a place on the music scene today.
Also read Russell Brand's lovely tribute on his site called "For Amy".
It may not have been any one drug. She may have just exhausted her body to the point where it could go one. The drugs definitely played a part, weather the direct cause or not.
It's really sad=( i will never understand why people have this need 2 turn 2 drugs or alcohol as soon as something bad happens because at the end of the day it will still be there when u finally sober up.
@anotherdumbmonkey You don't know what music is if the extent of your scope is Paul McCartney. That's not to speak bad of the knight & Beatle. But he's not in the same realm as George & John in terms of their ability to compose. Want genius? Listen to some Curtis Mayfield or Antonio Vivaldi.
I've no god complex. I don't even believe in God. We're talking about what constitutes a genius. Your argument are so weak & random that your premise is completely diminished. You failed mate.
holy shit, she was even fuglier than ana! but back to the subject, OF COURSE drugs were to blame, but what's wrong with that? it was HER CHOICE to fill HER BODY with various narcotic poisons, and she chose OF HER OWN FREE WILL to do so IN THE PRIVACY OF HER OWN HOME. i say legalize addictive drugs, so that more people like amy what's-her-name can express themselves through their own, self-destructive nature, and completely without any conscious awareness of what's happening to them. haha, lol...
Omg shut up, obviously you know nothing about the psyche, or that of the life an artist any kind of artist for that matter. why is a famous person addicted to drugs called an illness when a non celebrity addicted to drugs called a criminal....wealth, perhaps?
gobbygertie 7 months ago 66
@gobbygertie
it IS a real illness, i can attest to that, being a recovering addict myself ... but unfortunately it's a disease the average person gets thrown in prison for.

@cjf334 Drugs do not grant a person magical singing talent. The lyrics are not the reason for her sucess. Her soulful vocals and natural talent are what got her 5 grammys. Those 5 grammys made her famous.

idk Ana ... I don't think anyone's really shocked.
DeSadeM 7 months ago
Ineffective treatment and acknowledgement of Winehouse's addiction killed her. Her addictions had been well known and overplayed by the media for the last few years. Now everyone is back peddling as if this was some unseen tragedy. I almost think that the media and her managers wanted this to happen. I personally never liked her music, but why do people go after the addict as if the addict has a choice. Its no different than bashing someone with bi-polar disorder.
MichaeloooleahciM 7 months ago

You can talk about the arts without getting into the petty shiit.

yabitchonmydikk 7 months ago
Drug addiction is a disease, it's extremely hard to kick once you're hooked but she didn't even try to really help herself; I think she was that far into it that she couldn't even think straight. I think it affected her brain.
With that said, yes, she was a brilliant and genius musician but we don't know what went on in her life (maybe trauma or abuse) to make her abuse drugs or drive her to that point.
rvggarcon 7 months ago
@eaox1 She's NOT another useless celebrity. She's a talented young women who sadly took the wrong road and ended up like what we see now. You're a dick, that is all I have to say. I would love to see if you're actually half as talented as her. No, right? Though so.
kodatastical 7 months ago
@kodatastical I'm going to run with your logic and say you're not as talented as Justing Bieber either, since he's more famous than you.
Having said that, eaox1 is an asshole and I hope someone punches him in the dick.

Why can't you speak ill of the dead anyway? Are the dead people going to get mad? I've always hated that expression because it feels like religious nonsense. Amy Winehouse was an idiot. Don't do hard drugs all day long and you don't die young from a drug overdose. It's pretty simple.
SSky06 7 months ago
@SSky06 So you think it's ok to make fun of dead people?
Sick fuck.
Sneezlebob 7 months ago
@Sneezlebob

SSky06 7 months ago
@SSky06 you dont know what your talking about man lol. You probably live in suburbia where everything is the same and judging those who rise above the mediocrity that numbs your own day-to-day life brings you to a temporary artificial state of self-respect... that is until it quickly wears out and you find yourself at another youtube video judging yet another stranger, always in search of that self-respect. You are more familiar with addiction than you probably give yourself credit for
umbrellaBuddha 7 months ago
@umbrellaBuddha

Unless a medical condition is involved I still think people especially kids should be encouraged to fill their lives with something more than a chemical high.
kris7780 7 months ago

Freedom of speech, simple as that.
royalsteven 7 months ago
@royalsteven No, this video has NOTHING to do with that. Nothing at all.
Direksone 7 months ago
In your opinion. Because you are a non believer and I am a believer :D
royalsteven 7 months ago
@royalsteven No it's not my opinion alone. The subject of this is Amy Winehouse died and you dare to preach your lunatic religion? They both have nothing to do with each other. Go troll in church.
Direksone 7 months ago
Well, it doesn't have to be lunatic does it? You cannot generalize like that. Like I said dieing and the afterlife has everything to do with this. I said I hope she can forgive herself and God can to get to heaven. I said what I said and that is clear.
royalsteven 7 months ago
@royalsteven That is NOT what you said, you said 'this wouldn't have happened if she was addicted to religion' which is an outlandish statement. It is lunatic. The whole idea behind religion is a sick and despicable thing and I resent it, it disgusts me.
Direksone 7 months ago
I said, probably with an addiction to God....God not manmade religion. And that is the truth for many believers.

Death is sad.

@6XstringXsamurai
The fact of the matter is access is king.
If not your point was moot.
Lobos222 7 months ago
@Lobos222 more people drink alcohol in the USA today than under prohibition because it's not illegal, but people boot-legged alcohol under prohibition and made moonshine, which is worse quality... making drugs illegal won't necessarily eradicate the problem of drug abuse, but rather place it on a pedestal and create a sub-culture of uber drug users and abusers :(

You failed mate.
upabittoolate 7 months ago
holy shit, she was even fuglier than ana! but back to the subject, OF COURSE drugs were to blame, but what's wrong with that? it was HER CHOICE to fill HER BODY with various narcotic poisons, and she chose OF HER OWN FREE WILL to do so IN THE PRIVACY OF HER OWN HOME. i say legalize addictive drugs, so that more people like amy what's-her-name can express themselves through their own, self-destructive nature, and completely without any conscious awareness of what's happening to them. haha, lol...
