I've seen her major movies (Gilda, Lady from Shanghai ..and even minor films such as Only Angels Have Wings and Separate Tables). The Hollywood musical really is the form that suits her talents. She has a freshness and zest that were missing when she essayed more dramatic roles. This is a great sequence. A testament to the great Fred A. that he didn't look ridiculous doing a jitterbug-inspired number at ... what, age 43????
I think this is one of my favorite musicals, and movies in general, on part of both Rita Hayworth and Fred Astaire. I adore them both to no end but I just love and marvel at whatever movie shows off Rita's dance talent, and I think is one is favorite as dance is concerned, plus this particular number just amazes me every time I watch it
Jeg elsker disse 2 artister og har altid beundret deres dygtighed og det dejlige swingorkester, jeg får tårer i øjnene af glæde over at se og lytte til dette nummer. Endvidere tak for den forbedrede billedkvalitet.
A few years ago I watched a TV dance special, I think called "Burn the Floor." I was only able to endure about 15 minutes. If the dancers had been cartoon characters, the bubbles above their heads would have read "Hey, watch US. We are working HARD. This is really DIFFICULT but we've managed to struggle through." Making incredibly complex dance routines look like they're not only easy but actually fun is apparently a lost art. Sigh.
this routine could NEVER be duplicated by any other dance couple. Its so precise, I don't think todays green screen or computer enhancemants could match it. Incredible.
Fred "oozes" and Rita "is good too"? Have you been watching the clip I have? "Good too"? OK mate, just try lifting your leg as high as Rita and then call back... J
oh yeah fred was okay but have you ever seen the nicholas brothers? they were on the jacksons t.v. show and micheal taps with them.the brothers were in many old movies.take a look at them and tell me what you think.we never got proper credit for our achivements a blackman wrote most of elvis 's hits and didnt get credit until years later.there is so much history our chldren and grand children should learn.i told my great niece the other day about jackie robinson and the things he went through.
@sweettooth471 Here's what Fred had to say about the Nicholas Brothers, " Fred Astaire once told the brothers that the "Jumpin' Jive" dance number in Stormy Weather was the greatest movie musical sequence he had ever seen" and that they were an Inspiration for all dancers. Yes i have seen the dance number from Stormy Weather ., my reaction, Stunned. They are truly the Masters Of Tap and Dance. We will never see dancing like that on the screen again from any one.
This is my all time favorite dance in a movie! The first time I watched the movie on a VCR I replayed this dance over and over and over and over. They are both soooooo good...
we need give some credits to Fred's voice too. He sings really fantastically! He is a unsurpassed dancer to almost everybody, here, and a marvelous singer to me. I am sure i m not the only one who appreciates his singing.
this video makes me miss tapdancing so much.. stopped doing it a year and half ago because I went to the US as an exchange student, and the two dancestudios in the town I lived in didn't have tapclasses (they had clogging, but it wasn't any fun, it was too stiff and messy for my liking), and when I came home I found out my tapteacher for 3 years (who is recognized as my country's best tapdancer) had quit teaching because she wanted to go to college...
Great routine! It gets really hot and energetic, and then they cut to Xavier Cugat, who looks like he's having trouble digesting his lunch. Kinda throws cold water on the routine, but Fred & Rita heat it up again.
Fred is using some of the dance steps done by the kids in Harlem in this number. He also does hung dancing with Rita at the end. There was a real person named Shorty George. Rita Hayworth said that the only two movies she did that she liked were the ones with Fred. She called them her jewels. The rest of the movies she did she laughed at.
I've seen this routine so many times that I can close my eyes and practically see all the steps (and I'm not a dancer). and it still NEVER gets old. *shiver of delight*
@oentschi I can't stop watching Rita, even though I try watching Fred…it's frustrating as they are both so enchanting. No one, NO ONE, exists like these talents today…
can I go back in time and marry Fred Astaire?
