I just started my Jiffy 72 this past Wednesday. I have an old heating pad that belonged to my Mom, acting as a warming mat, and no light at all (read that until the first leaves show, sunlight and light in general is not needed...root system(s) are not strong enough yet). Hope your 2012 efforts will be fun! :-)
@sly2kusa right on! Most of my seeds have sprouted just great so far, but I think I'm gonna start more, lol thanks for the tip about the lights, I've been seeing more andmore people sprouting in coolers and such, I'll have to play around with somethings here I think. I suppose you could say that my lights act as a heat source more than light source
SOMETIMES, WHEN WALGREENS FIRST GET THEIR SEEDS IN THEY WILL HAVE THEM ON SALE TEN FOR A DOLLAR. I BUY MINE AT A FEED STORE IN BULK. YOU CAN GET A BIG SCOOP OF SEED FOR ABOUT FIFTY CENTS. TODAY, I PLANTED SPINACH,MUSTARD,BEETS,AND LETTUCE. EACH ROW WAS 24 FT. LONG. I STILL HAVE SEED LEFT OVER AND I PAID $2.00 FOR FOUR SCOOPS OF SEED.
@trumant1 man it looks like you scored! Thanks for the info. I'll have to do that same thing at the local walgreens. Getting ready to start some spring veggies indoors soon. Thanks again :)
@marcjtdc thanks for watching. I now keep these lights about 2" away from the tray when panting seeds and about 4"-6" away when they start growing. It's been fun.
Hey if you have a Dollar General store nearby you they have 3/$1 seeds and Ive been using them for 4-5 years with great success! Also they have discount gardening supplies...Also look on Ebay.com for great prices on seeds ... Great videos btw!

nice video, but you should have your light as close as possible to the plants.

Saving seeds from store bought vegetables is a great idea!

Thanks for your comment! Soon enough I won't have to buy from the store :)
