@photolitherland but all the people who use it for both will use the video. You get alot more flexibility from a $1500 dslr than a video camera of the same price. Interchangeable lenses, smaller size, longer battery life, great image quality with good video quality. It makes more sense to buy a dslr to take pictures and video than to use a camcorder to do both.
I am very impressed by the slow motion hellicopter takeoff. I thought 5d mark2 is the best reachable priced video camera at market, but now i see d300s is a competitor for it.
Did anyone compared the new D7000 movie mode with the one on the D300s? im curious on which one deliver a better result. Let put the construction of the body aside, just movie mode vs movie mode. Beside this video was realy good all around.
This is awesome. Most pro videos I see on Youtube are by Canon Mark D II but now I see Nikon has some pro videos out here. The photo shots are really good. Top marks for this film. Thank you.
What was used to protect the camera from the water?...im thinking about going snowboarding with the 300s i have but i want to make sure it doesnt get wet?
i just got the camera but i am having a problem with it ..... it will not take pictures or videos and i want to reset it ... is there any way to do that
The helicopter lift-off shot is not slow-motion. It's an optical illusion, similar to the wagon-wheel or stroboscopic effect (Google it). If you look carefully you can see the helicopter is lifting off the ground at normal speed.
I'd really like to know what lenses were used in this video. I am looking to get a couple of decent ones for this type of shooting. The better in low-light whilst recording the better, so needs to be fast. Any tips?
This video is incredible. As a videographer I have used many different kinds of cameras. The HD movie capabilities of the digital slr cameras are proving to be a real contender in the next generation of media acquisition!
The helicopter shot looks the way it does because the shutter speed is out of sync with the frame rate. I have been able to get similar results with a helicopter shot. To look right to the eye 24FPS must have a 1/48 setting. The closest this camera can get is 1/50, which will show some distortion. I have one of these cameras now and love it, that being said, the next generation should have full manual control.
The helicopter shot is in high speed. Sorry, but I haven't read anywhere that this camera is able to shot at anything above 24 fps. Is this video a hoax?
It's not necessarily shot in high speed - it could just be the frame rate matching the speed of the rotors, sort of like on car adverts how it looks like the wheels are going backwards.
I understand. That is most likely the explanation. This video is very deceptive in more ways than one. It can get you to feel that these images are somewhat easy to replicate. I read about the D300s after my first post, of course it can't do high speed. In fact it can't do normal speed in the sense that there is a terrible problem called rolling shutter, which is mysteriously not seen in this video (xcept for the bend helicopter blades), but obvious in most amateur work.
Incredible work. This whole new development for digital slrs is making a lot of people (including me) very excited. The D300s is the best purchase I've made in a long time and the power it unleashes with a good suite of lenses is very formidable.
It appears as if it would have be taken with a high frame rate, but actually it was recorded on the 300s, the blades on the helicopter are actually straight in real life, but this effect occurs due to the 'rolling shutter' which displays different parts of the frame at a different time causing this effect on fast motion.
Sweet images! I have got the 300s and it's a good camera, fast and easy to handle if you once got a feeling for it. Thx for uploading

We used a lot of different lenses !
It startet with a 10-24mm and endet with a 200-400 and a 600mm lens.
So, it realy depense on the situation you're shooting.

OK. You should take it like that.If this was on slow motion could the rotors with that slow speed lift the helicopter?.....

how could this be with d300s????
(i mean the helicopter)
the d300s can record in only 24fps..
thats recorded in slowmo so seams to me its not d300s
lotusjohn 1 year ago
Hey lotusjohn
I can promise you, the entire movie was shot with a Nikon D300S.
The shutter speed in combinations with the rpm of the rotors can create that effect.
(like "12ampvacume" allready wrote below)

it's most likely just an optical illusion that some cameras get. the shutter speed in combinations with the rpm of the rotors can create that effect.
