This group of Ward Singers was before I became acquainted with Gospel Music. Once I became acquainted, I could not get enough of Clara and the Ward Singers. I was 12 years old (1959) and stillI enjoy hearing the many, many different groups of Clara Ward Singers (2011). Read the book, HOW I GOT OVER. Jimmyjimmyist.
This is incredible! Marion Wlliams is a force of nature, and this song has all the elements that best exemplify the golden age of gospel. AN AMAZING RECORDING!
God Bless you for these posts. I am continually amazed at you and the other 2 that seem to scoop each other to see who can pull another song out of you alls personal archive!!!(Smile) It is a blessing to hear these songs and recall these pioneers who paved the way for the kids today. May Clara and her peers who have gone Rest In Peace.
lol, yeah it shows how even in ministry you can still have a little fun! I am glad you were blessed tho, as that is always th emain objective of every post!
In a dying hour! In a dying hour! and you trust him the midnight, you trust in the day, friends may leave you but trust him anyway.Marion was sho-nuff working this one,I bet they tore a many houses with this one here.
Dasourcepr06 Thank you for your wonderful postings. I love them so. I watch them then I look and you have posted them. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you.
The church would be hot as fire with every window open and everyone fanning. the choir would be belting out this tune and all of a sudden a lady would scream and scare you to death. Up from the pew she would leap and jump up and down to the music. Then the ushers would come along with a (church nurse) and hold on to her till until she would finally fall back to her seat. they would undo her dress a little in the back and begin to fan furiously, while the sister in back of her held on to her hat
Actually, I can honestly say I hear it. I remember hearing Ma Rainey singing "Big Black Bottom", and their voices do sound similar, only difference being Ma's voice was more relaxed.

I didn't mean clara's part, i meant leading the chorus?

I believe Clara is singing a lower part, and here Ms.Waddy's part just sticks out..i am not sure.
DaSourcespr06 3 years ago
Yes she is singing the lower part, i believe

You know a Gospel Historian once compared Ms. Waddy's singing to Blues Legend Ma Rainey's and in this recording she actually sounds a lot like Ma.
