The law in this country is currently an illusion. Congress and the president ignore the Constitution. Only you, the average American, are expected to abide by the oppressive and arbitrary laws.
Ron Paul is dead on with his assessment. The point that Ed misses is that without the department of agriculture an industry-driven (see: non-profit, self-regulatory) and industry competition-balanced system would take its place. The cost would move off the shoulders of tax payers and onto the shoulders of major agricultural organizations.
We wouldn't do without this regulation, the function would be filled by the industry as it should be for all industries. See the ESRB and video games.
The originating industry needs to support its own respectable operating regulations. The government should not provide this function.
Imagine if the ESRB was funded by the government instead of by the companies who seek its licensing. Instead of having a self-driven and competition-forged rating system that caters to the needs of the consumer while fitting amicably within the operating limits of the distributor we'd have a bureaucracy filled money sink that accomplishes only to create loop holes

If people would do some homework they would learn that the FDA is lobbied by drug companies which in turn allow drugs that are not fully tested to be sold on the market. Ron Paul is dead on with his assessment. The point that Ed misses is that without the department of agriculture an industry-driven (see: non-profit, self-regulatory) and industry competition-balanced system would take its place. The cost would move off the shoulders of tax payers and onto the shoulders of major agricultural organizations.
We wouldn't do without this regulation, the function would be filled by the industry as it should be for all industries. See the ESRB and video games.
