  • I had a Syrinx, MiniMoog E, Odyssey MK I, Pro One, MS-20, SH-5 and sell them all, keep only the OSCar. Why? The OSCar beats them all, believe it or not, this thing is a beast, maybe only beaten by the Steiner Parker Synthacon.

  • The oscillators themselves are digital (according to Wikipedia) not just digitally controlled analogue ones. The filters are the only part of it which is analogue although it's got a rich and unique sound that most other digital synths don't have which is probably the biggest reason that so many people swear it's analogue.

  • @sinetravel I'm attempting to get in contact with Chris Huggett (the designer of the OSCar) in order to clear up this uncertainty once and for all. Fingers crossed he will be able to clarify this.

  • if you want doing wierd sound for Psytrance just used this , Simon Posford have this one and do a fantastic job on the Hallucinogen Twisted album.

  • that synth looks amazing and sounds cool too !!! and made back in 83 !!

  • @djgibbo1 Yeah it's a great synth. :-)

  • I really want to buy one of these.

  • nice fat sound i want one

  • It has has the worst keyboard feel to play. Awesome sound from the OSCar owned one myself and regretted selling even if it was for the rarity factor.

It is actually a digital synth to the person who said analogue ;)

  • Yeah, it's a great synth. The oscillators are digitally controlled but the rest of the sonic architecture is analogue, so it is really an analogue synth and not really a digital one.

  • wish i could find one....

  • I owned one and found it well-built, stable and reliable. No issues.

  • Amazingly fat...ripping...

  • jinxing another man's syth: not cool >:(

  • Don't worry, the OSCar is still going strong. ;-)

  • Yes lol these things are renowned for being awfully unstable. Plus I dont know many companies that can service the OSCar.

  • Yeah, I've heard they can be a bit fragile, but I intend to look after it well so hopefully there won't be any major problems.

  • @SuicidleLemming i've owned one of these since 6 years or maybe even more, never had a single problem. I can't know what happens if you don't use it for a long time, but all vintage synths tend to have problems if not used from time to time.

  • id get that thing sampled up asap before it starts going funny on you lol

  • Heh. Do you think that's likely to happen?

  • Buy the softsynth version, ImpOSCar, by GForce.

  • ImpOSCar is a fantastic softsynth I agree, and in many ways better than the hardware version. But there are benefits to having a real OSCar that you don't find in the softsynth version.
