Unfortunately, before any vehicle manufacturer will post a "recall" to repair a defect, there must be an extremely high ratio of similar incidents. I don't know what that ratio is but I can tell you that I had a mechanical failure in the ignition switch of my 2006 Wrangler, which rendered my rig useless, and instead of offering a switch replacement, it was part of the entire steering column assembly, which was not warrantied by Chrysler. I was w/o my rig for over a month for this.
the insurance did nothing. But you MUST have an insurance, or "International passport for the car" when travelling in Africa. The car was a diesel, with a plastic!
fuel tank!!! which melted in an instant. yes, those are Kenyan plates. the dry grass caught between the protective plate and the exhaust pipe, which traverses the car instead of being placed along the side, caught the fire.
Curious what happened after the trip? Did you receive any payout from insurance? I have been considering an extended "adventure trip" for some time and I am told you have to buy insurance in most countries for legal reasons (or to avoid paying costly bribes) but in most parts of africa and south america it is pretty useless. Did you ever wind up getting to take the trip?
1) Did this JK this have an automatic trans? Gas powered? (not diesel?)
Before the fire :
2) Did you experience a stall or loss of power?
3) Did you hear a "ding'" or see a dash icon warning?
4) Did you traverse any deep vegetation or water?
Can you describe what you saw under the right side during the fire? Was it auto trans fluid burning on the catalytic converter? Any fuel leaking or smell?
You should remove this video from You Tube if you plan on getting an insurance settlement. It's just a little bit self incriminating. Don't explain how you think the fire was started just let them fill in the blanks.
Way to go Britt for helping John with the fire...
