our family is having a western family reunion. we have some roots in the old west so i think its fitting. I was going to find some songs to perform, these are real gems
it's basically just the same 3 chords as the beer song....mess around a bit, I'm sure you'll get them; msg me if you get stuck & I'll work them out. DR uses bottleneck and some subtle right hand picking to great effect on this one though. No idea how he ACTUALLY plays it!
@CurttoonSr capo 1 in A...A D A E...like that...at least what it sounds like to me...not the same as I Drink Beer which is Capo 1 in D ...both great songs though
@mustardayonnaise Haha, in other words, in our hearts, we're all just people who jack off to how we wish reality could be, and just can't quite put our fingers on the real deals.
Well as a draw my pay fer punchin cows i must tell ya'll that most conversation that takes part among real workin' cowboys ain't fer the faint of heart or ladies. Lot's of stories from the old timers about "workin' girls". The singer done a good job and your pictures were great only i'm a mite confused as to the kids and sod busters in a cowpuncher song, but then then it weren't really was it?
Love the images, like the music, usually enjoy Dan Reeder. Hate the message but appreciate the humor with which it was delivered. The message typically missed from these images is that these people for the most part were working their asses off just to survive. So even if they did choose to rub one out more power to them.
Cowboys and music just seem to go together. I really do like this old song and love your old pictures here. They are wonderful. Just seeing some of the scenes from years gone by are really special. I feel that true cowboys loved their way of life, hardships and all. Thank you for sharing this with us. - Paula
true cowboys "love" their way of life, hardships and all, maybe you aint been up to my country, big northern and cold, cowboyin is still a way of life here in alberta canada, people act like its something of the past, maybe the movie cowboy, but the workin cowboy is still alive and riding fences checkin cows doctorin calves breakin colts and breakin bones -40 below 0 to +40 above, step outside of your little bubble, just cause you cant see us dont mean we aint here.
Well if your really from Canada and work cattle that's fine, but I'm from TEXAS and I've visited Canada and not one of the people I spoke to or heard speaking up there spoke like you TYPED. Y'all don't say ain't, or doctorin', or breakin' now do you? It looks like you have been watching TOO much TV. There are cowboys all over the world but just because they are cowboys doesn't mean they talk like they are from the SOUTHERN US. Stop being a poser.
I'm sure they dig rubbin' one out in a field the same as you and I do, partner. And they got lots more frontier to do it in where they come from. We have our own asphalt culture to blame for the death of the American West. We just gave them a place to come and work miserable jobs. Now quit using unrelated pages about pastoral onanism on youtube as a platform for your 'tard white supremacy, or I'll tell your mom, and you won't get any pudding.
Yes they do, they still have cowboys who do most of the things their predecessors did. Mind you - how would I know, I live in Scotland! But the answer is yes.
"How would I know" is an idiomatic expression that in this context was meant to convey "I shouldn't really comment". But I totally agree - it's a great song and I wish I'd written it myself!
Man I just REALLY got what this song was about. It's about guys jackin off to girls that he thinks is the American Dream! "There's the real kind and there's the kind in his mind...but the "mind kinda know's like the (kind that he knows like the kind in his HAND)" At least that's how I interpreted it. Plus he talks about how cowboys "jack off all the time". So hup git along doggy. Little doggy git along. Man I miss TEXAS.
These are snapshots of an Americana that has faded and will be no more i.e. White rural culture, as our nation is flooded with immigrants from the Third World who either won't or seemingly CAN'T assimilate into our way of life. You can thank Teddy Kennedy for his brilliant Imigration Reform Act of 1965, which caused Third World immigration(non-Whites, and actually discriminated against White immigration! That traitorous bastard.). This culture will be lost forever.
You've missed the point or refuse to acknowledge the loss of this type of White culture. Reeder may have been an emigrant, but a White one. As a result, he assimilated fine with us without a problem.
Somalians or Muslim Pakistanis will NOT. Non-Whites will force this way of life and culture out of existence.
You may think the comment was hilarious but look at this country in less than 40 years. It'll only faintly resemble the good ol' USA you see in these vignettes.
Has anyone ever noticed the correlation between racists like Dale and those that have a hard time with the English language. Dale, the word is "emigrant". That means he *emigrated.* That is, he *left* the US. Poor Dale, losing another white face in the US. As for declining rural culture, you're a big part of that. Who in the world would want to move out and live amongst ignorant folks like you?

Hey Virginia, With 3 bachelor degrees(yes,3), I know perfectly well the difference b/t Emigrant and Immigrant. I'm just so used to people(particularly the Blacks at work; I'm an RN)) who misuse terms so often that I yield to it and actually try to cover it up for them. I misunderstood you, my friend.
That doesn't cover up the fact that millions of non-White faces are pouring into our country at breathtaking numbers that'll make your grandchildren have to be guarded on their way to school.
Thanks! I got the old pics mainly from a site called Shorpy, which has loads of old pics, mainly from America round about the turn of the century. Maybe some surfin' dudes in there too....must have a look!
