I guess there aren't killer apps for everything. Can I plug in my electric guitar in Linux and get the sound of dozens of amps like I can do in GarageBand? I guess the answer is ... not yet
What's your point? Dude I'm running Linux Ubuntu 9.04 I love it trust me its great that they have such a supportive community but that doesn't change the fact that OS X has capable of a lot more than Ubuntu.
First thing me to, but I think its their job to do that, so they do it for money? I don't know about you but if i was paid for running ubuntu and making it look cool i would probably do it more often
you really should try OS X. Half a day with an Apple computer will really change your perspective. Yes linux is great and OSS is the way of the future for many companies but if it was that easy to replicate what Apple does MS would have done it a long time about. OS X is hardly just looks.
...using a mac is like sex with my ex girlfriend...you see one...you go up to it, it looks good, you think it'll be an amazing experience...but in the end you walk away disappointed...
... and using ubuntu is like my ex ... lots of legwork for very small returns ... and she's still a bitch at the end of the day even if I do manage to push all the right buttons ... plus the constant promises of getting better when in fact it's about the same ...
but you're free to use whatever you want. Me, I like things to be easy and smooth ... in both contexts ...

Try Ubuntu Studio, for tonnes of media production stuff, with a real-time kernel. And Ardour is way better than Garage Band

This is nothing like Mac I'm a big Linux supporter, but Linux simply hasn't met the standards to be compared to OS X.
