If i had to guess i'd say that they didn't use this style because of how many frames each individual character would need. This looks really fluid with great character skins. Though with Newgrounds being the lazy fucks that they are, they went with what they have now where everyone has the exact same animations and the enemies on every level only have a max of 2 character variations.

@moldyclay there are many gameplay and visual differences. a couple lesser obvious ones would be that magic and archery requires sheathing of your sword, which is slow and clunky. the characters have less room to move around while taking more space.

Virtual console doesnt support anything other than nintendo games because nintendo is a bunch of lazy asses, thats a gay idea for a wii game and newgrounds is making this game exclusively for XBLA

The Behemoth never said Castle Crashers would be exclusive to XBLA. they said if they wanted to make a version for other consoles they'll sacrifice man power and more time to make it. Nintendo also has WiiWare now which is their version of the Live Arcade.
