When i hear comparisons of "who's better", John's a good little guitar player, but Paisley has taken the guitar to a whole 'nother level...and i'm not even a fan of country music...
This is my all time favorite song, and I'm a huge fan of both Brad and John... But this was a bit sloppy for how accomplished both of these artists are.
This was really well done! I really wish Brad had been sure of the lyrics though. I lol'd at the end when Brad was just gunna end in a solid chord but John made him do one last riff.
why are people actually comparing them. The beauty of this is that they have two completely different styles. John is a blues guitarist and brad is a country guitarist. There are similarities but lets just be honest they are both better than 99.99% of the people who are watching this video.
I cant believe there is even an argument that John might be better than brad. They aren't even close brad blows john away. John has more sales because he appeals to a bigger audience and is one heck of a songwriter which no one can deny but paisley is a serious virtuoso and i don't think john mayer ever really wanted to be that.

@mike4740 Do your homework. John Mayer has played with everybody that's anybody, crossing over lots of styles including rock, country, jazz, blues, and pop. Brad Paisley (and I like him) pretty much sticks to country. He may be able to do more, and I would like to see him branch out that way, but so far he's just known as a country guy.
i just simply dont like the collabs of blues and country, i know they both are suppose to be the extension of each other...but i dont like the sound...but since this is more blues, it goes even jazzy acoustically
I enjoy both artists a great deal. Mayer and Keith Urban seem to have hit it off better and have better chemistry. I'd love to see all of them jamming...

when it comes to the whole guitar playing discussion its pretty obvious that john mayer puts much more skills and variation to the table. he clearly shows that in his dvd "where the light is" where he shows his acoustic skills, his love for blues and rock in the trio and his more commercial side with the band. as a guitar player I can a notice a big difference, john just has me more convinced
Look at how many times Brad solos and how many times John solos. Naturally, anyone looking at this objectively is going to say Brad is better because he isn't playing rhythm for most of the song. John is definitely a better overall guitar player.
The real comparison to be made here is how much better the Martin sounds compared to the Laramie!

@bjhMus1C lol you're sorely misinformed then. I'm am in no way a huge Paisley fan at all, in fact John is my musical hero but Brad is in fact a better guitarist then John is. YOU'RE the one that doesn't know what good guitar playing is. John is great, he's the Clapton of our generation in terms of skill and having mainstream songs, but I'm just stating the facts. That's like saying John Mayer is better than Jeff Beck at guitar, which is not true, but I'd rather listen to John all day instead.

@bjhMus1C do you even play guitar? I doubt it. Can John do chicken picking? Nope. Can John do flat picking as well as Brad? Nope. Can John do hybrid style that well? Nope. Have you even ever listened to Brad Paisley? I doubt it. The only thing John does is frankly the pentatonic scale and Hendrix embellishments via partial G form bar chords and partial A form chords. Go listen to the Sweet Thing duet with Keith Urban. He totally kills the vibe by doing a blues scale in a upbeat, happy song.

@therichardchannel how would you know if i played guitar or not? and not like the technicalities matter, but there's still many picking techniques john can do that paisley couldn't understand in a million years. it's how you make the guitar sound that matters though, not what picking style you use to play it.

John didn't invent those chump, Paul McCartney was doing it way back in the day. The slapping technique on Neon? Brad can definitely do that. That's a technique derived from bass. And you're saying MY argument has no evidence. I named you a bunch of stuff and gave you examples and all you can say is "you're making assumptions". Now I KNOW you definitely don't play guitar.

@therichardchannel when i say you make assumptions, im referring to your comments about you "knowing" how i don't play guitar or how i don't listen to brad paisley. regardless of the techniques brad knows, John is by far the better the guitarist/musician due to the way he plays the guitar. brad may have more techniques in his repertoire, but john has way more of a feel for music and guitar playing in general.

I've been following John since he played at the 40 watt and Eddie's Attic buddy. These videos are only confirming what I've been telling you this whole time. All these songs are based on blues and the pentatonic scale! It's what John does best, but really the only thing he knows.
