So my spanish is limited, sorry :(... but, to be quite honest, those men were murderous scum. They destroyed South American history and inflicted indirect and disastrous damage to North America. Worse then Hitler.
however, documentaries showing their true colors would be quite interesting. Particularly on how that ass Cortes and Pizarro killed tens of millions!
@lompocus Comparisons such as the one you make are not valid. Back in the 16th Century, when the European invasion and conquest were taking place the most advanced societies still did not possess a clear concept of human rights as we did back when the Nazis were committing their attrocities against the Jews and other minorities.
Whereas during the conquest aboriginal Americans had the friars to advocate for them WITHIN Spanish society, few in Germany did the same for the Jews.
@NewTet : Morality is NOT relative. You cannot forgive a (dead) people for what they inflicted on at least a third of the world (or you can expand it to include all European colonialism). To dismiss their actions as condonable with the argument that it is the way it was once done is not sensible.
Now, I didn't condemn the colonization effort. Some Spanish priests had good intentions and (this is key) did all they could to defend the Indigenous. I'm condeming the ones with the power to change.
@lompocus Morality IS relative, my friend. Until you realize this all past and present injustices will continue to seem explicable only in the absolute terms of "Good vs. Evil".
@NewTet There is an absolute "definition" for good and evil, but it's not what most people tend to think of it as. In fact, thinking of "it" (which I'll define as much as youtube allows me to) as black-and-white is wrong, and I apologize for using the term "relative" which may have led to this confusion on the underlying meaning behind my post.
Morality is doing whatever can lead to perpetuity of good living conditions for posterity. But hat's too simplistic (can elaborate, character limit).
@lompocus I just realized your postings against the Spanish conquistadors and found them totally ridiculous and blatantly false. Spain was the first western civilization that condemned and punish the crimes of their own "very few" while the colonization in the Americas... hence the native Indians are a far majority in the America Spanish speaking world. In the anglo part of America, almost all the Indians were brought to starvation and excluded to reservations. Look to the mirror before..
@NewTet Where are all the tobacco companies from? where are horrible fast food companies from? where are from the pharmaceutical monsters , i.e. prozac etc.. ? let me answer for you... the USA.. now tell me what terrible companies are in Spain that kills humanity today with their products? NONE... Throughout history, Spain brought a civilized world to the Americans while the USA brought a chaotic, violent, corrupted & superficial society that is killing the entire world with media and fraud, yep
@lompocus and don't tell me there aren't large companies in Spain because in fact they have among the largest corps in the world in many sectors... Inditex (Zara) largest retail, clothing co in the world, Telefonica, largest telephone co by revenue in the world, Santander and BBVA, 3th, 4th largest banks in the planet, ACS largest constructor in the world, Spain has 6 of the 10 world's largest co in construction and engineering, etc even comparing a 45 million nation with a 400 million one.. uf
@NewTet so no one remember your recent genocide in Japan, Vietnam, Irak etc... What about african american segregation in the XX century? no other nation did that. United States exterminated almost ALL the native Americans and their food supplies after taking "their territory", segregated Africans as animals, killed millions of innocent people in Japan cowardly with 2 atomic bombs, did atrocities in Vietnam, Irak etc and now you're complaining about Spain? Spain is a role model for you, face it
@lompocus more terrible and bloody is the very "young" history of the United States, where in barely 200 years of history (vs thousands of Spain), was involved in many wars.. Have you forgotten the genocide in Hiroshima and Nagasaki? The USA literary blow in seconds two large cities, full of civilians, children, woman, the elderly... with a complete disregard for human life, with two atomic bombs, something neither the Hitler you mentioned dared to do... apparently you rather attack others to..

If I bombed every major city from orbit, would I be at fault a thousand years later when a more mature society develops? NO! You are a moron!
