  • This its going to be good this year

  • What a sound!

  • Anybody else think at 1:17 it looked like a Triforce?

  • God, this guard was magnificent. All that freaking fabric to manage, makes them look like they're running through fire. Stunning. What a world!

  • J.D. SHAW, I LOVE YOU.

  • Before they took the bugle out of drum and bugle corps.........

  • I really love this performance, the solos are just amazing. But the drill in this show really leaves a lot to desired. The transitions are awkward in many places.

  • so excited to play this everyday of my summer...:)

  • them is some "big" shoes to fill! Even for PR these days. I'll be in the stands expecting to hear and feel some power. Bring it Regiment!

  • this is a prime example of why DCI needs to switch back to G bugles...nothing can beat that intense of a sound

  • God speaks through the Phantom Regiment hornline.

  • Was that Shaw?

  • @SilverFlair Yep, ironic isn't it? The year that shaw leaves, they reprise the piece he soloed in.

  • 2012AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

  • AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • SO STOKED ABOUT 2012!

  • RETURNING IN 2012!!!!!!!!!!!

  • They will be playing this again in 2012!!!

  • @trumpetPhan24 can't wait!! my boyfriend made it in!!

  • @iknewthtduhh45 Really, what is his name? I made it on trumpet!

  • @trumpetPhan24 oh you probably know him then! Alex Weite

  • @iknewthtduhh45 Yeah i think I remember who that is. This is my first year to march, so I am still learning names.

  • @trumpetPhan24 ohh yeah he was in it last summer too so i was really excited when i found out they were playing this because i kinda figured he'd make it in again lol

  • @iknewthtduhh45 We played this at the november camp and it sounded amazing! It should be a great year for the phans!!!

  • @iknewthtduhh45 i'm soo excited!! i'm not sure where you're from, but they do a show at giants stadium which is close to my house and we always host a corps and i'm tryingg soo hard to get phantom to come!

  • @iknewthtduhh45 Oh i live in Oklahoma, but yeah getting to host phantom regiment would really cool

  • @iknewthtduhh45 What about Alex? Lol!

  • @crimsonsilence oh i'm dating him

  • @trumpetPhan24 Yes! Can't wait!

  • @trumpetPhan24 Good luck topping this...

  • @starwarsjunkie7777 It's still the Phantom Regiment. I'm sure they can pull it off. : )

  • @trumpetPhan24 Maybe they'll bring back the penis formation too :D

  • Is that a chicken at 1:54?

  • 2012 please!

  • who ever disliked this clicked it by accident :]

  • I'm glad that this song was played with a less constant tempo like the real song, our band plays it with a constant tempo and it sounds too rigid

  • That is amazing!

  • god these old G bugles are so brassy sounding, even the mellophone is that tinny kind of vibrating sound, it's great for screamer trumpet solos and great for company front huge chords, but mello/horn solos were not done justice by them

  • @papajohn5656 I totally agree

  • I pressed 9 over 9000 times.

  • The goose bumps start right about 1:08

  • Lol at the perc. judge at the end for walking in time with the corps, and making a new dot, right in the center of the circle!! Other than that, what a performance. bravo regiment.

  • @ibeiubeu Hahaha, too bad he blew the halt!

  • Beautiful!!! i was there live when i was 16 and couldnt believe my eyes/ears!!!

    WOW

  • Tht shit was beast

  • OMG! Its amazing! <3

  • Nessun Dorma alone always gives me chills, but wow...this is just stunning.

  • 1:13 FUCK YES!!

  • @chaosdudeyou can hear at least some baritones playing the fifth

  • This is how a solo should be every time.

  • Comment removed

  • should've held that chord for 7 more counts and crecendo a little bit more... but still... it kicks ass

  • Phantom never ceases to amaze me

my great respects to all of you

  • That... was... beautiful! :D

  • their colorguard makes me ashamed of being in drumline. LOL, seriously, amazing work.

  • @193614 that drumline > that guard

  • @pulse0100 Not really...They were good, but the guard work was awesome

  • Beautiful! What do you expect when your corp has JD Shaw of the Boston Brass as a member!

  • BAD ASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • best level. Nessum Dorma PR 1991

  • I will always love the BUGLE days. When played right they produce alot thicker tone and volume and the lows are crystal clear. Compare this to the 07 recording of it and it is night and day. Granted its a home camera version but you just dont realize how much you miss till you listen to a Bugle.

  • If i had to compare all shows of PR, i don't know which to favor: hormonium journey, spartacus, faust, into the light, or this, phantom voices. So many choices! so many good shows!

  • @360Alexrules08 nope.

  • JD!!!

  • amazing show... the best part is at 1:39

  • i love it...

  • I remember being in that audience. That show was one of the most perfect blends of visual and music in DCI history. The crowd went ape-shit for that show. I don't understand why Drum Corps International has never made it back to Texas.

  • @Bovinaflowers What do you mean? There's tons of shows in Texas. If I could have my way as a marching member, I would have as little as possible.

  • I wonder why the 2007 version has nearly twice the views. The impact of this group is incredible.

  • by far the best any drum corps has EVER played this song.

  • wow... that was AMAZING!

  • 1991 was an absolute EPIC year for drum corps. And that Dallas crowd was so INTO it! It was the only time I marched in a DCI Finals that I saw no less than 20 California flags in the crowd when we (Freelanxcers) came on! IT was AWESOME!

  • Was that JD Shaw?

  • @refrigerator111 Yeah.

  • I could cry

  • Awesome! Thanks! This is way better quality than the one on google video. Can you get the rest of this show up here? Especially Pagliacci.

  • i love.. the black bass drum heads.. against the white uniforms.. beauty

  • Best Corps out there!!!;) love this song and this performance out there!

  • goosebumps

  • Absolutely amazing:)

  • this is just pouring with emotion

  • Vincero!!!!!

  • I would lave to watch the full show again!!!!

  • I love this song! :)

  • Wow, a line moving backward diagonally with a slant. That's tough.

  • There was a time this actually made me cry.

  • I still kinda wish the corps used G bugles, what a full sound.

  • 1991 was the first year I experienced Drum Corps live. Phantom Regiment has always been my favorite!! This show is my favorite Phantom show of all time!! Thanks for posting!!!

  • I absolutely could not get enough of THIS SHOW while on tour. Every chance I could get to see this show I would. It never ever got old back then and still doesn't ..Absolute Classic and Brilliant Phantom. Very special summer that year being my rookie year to drum corps.

  • Does anyone know where I can find the rest of this show along with the rest of the 1991 competition. Really great year.

  • was that JD that did the solo?

  • oh yeah

  • wow. JD looks alot different.

  • 1:08 on <3

  • Howdy Dan, My kids did this stuff back in the late 80's and early 90's. I had forgotten how exciting it was. Thanks for bringing back some great memories.

  • J.D. Shaw(horn solo) your my hero!!

  • This was my rookie year...what a wonderful experience and wonderful people to share it with. I loved the tour out East, early part of the season...overall, it was just a great way to start a marching career with Regiment.

  • jd

    <3

  • I literally just watched this 7 times. I can't believe I've never heard it before!

  • i win. 10 =]

  • I dont see how modern DCI compares to the era of the 80s and 90s. Shows made just as much sense without amps or mics. It was about the music, not drama class. Guess us old vets will never get it. Love this kinda of stuff, that is was DCI is all about!

  • Best MARCHING corps I've ever seen. They were amazing in every way.

  • The closer with The Bacchanale is also epic. Still one of the best ever. I agree... show the whole show!!!!

  • cinematography for DCI today pales in comparison to this beautifully captured performance.

  • The opener is so epic

  • PLEASE POST THE ENTIRE '91 PR SHOW :-)

  • just google 1991 phantom regiment.

  • Sweet cutaway graphics!! lol

    Beautiful music as well. :)

  • man I listen to this over and over and over and it just NEVER gets old the balance at the end and the power = EPIC

  • i like the penis formation at the end

  • omg this just made me laugh so bad. thumbs up!

  • I love them.. truly They we're my idol......

  • Bring back the Bugle.....2 valves

  • i've always wondered why some corps like phantom took longer to make the switch. I know corps like the freelancers were already on 3 valves in 91

  • I love how at the very end they hit you with the 1st and the 5th and then ... wait for it... wait for it.... 3RD!!! YES!!! Beautiful Major Chord

  • @chaosdude14 , actually it is unison right before it, but still cool. I actually like that the last chord has no drums chopping away during it which is very rare.

  • @cccustommusic Choppin away?! No way, I love how the bass drums add power and emphasis during large chords!

  • @chaosdude14 Actually, it's just a unison concert C, then splits to the C major.

  • @chaosdude14

perhaps an overtone? I may just be dreaming

  • @chaosdude14

It must have been a 5th overtone...

  • i LOVE NESSUN DORMA OMG!

  • Maybe subconcienciously I say this cuz its what i play, but nessun dorma is for tenor voice and horn is more altois so maybe use a euph or baritone instead? either way amazing show!

  • no. just no. I'm actually a euphonium player. but no. do not question jd shaw. no.

  • AMAZING FORMATIONS!!!!!

  • jd shaw <3

  • Wow. I might even like this snippet better than Spartacus... Way to go Phantom. I was maybe a week old when they performed this.

  • this piece is just a serious classic.

HNC can't come anywhere close to duplicating this kind of effect, because HNC is not Phantom!

  • Fucking wonderful song.

And PR expresses it so wonderfully

    Even on the field!

You'd think they were on stage, not a fucking football field. :)

  • I like the White uniformed Marty Hurley Phantom better.

  • MELLO SOLO?! :D

  • that's the legendary JD Shaw behind that beast of a horn!

  • A beautiful show! The visual details in the forms of beautiful, elaborate costumes and vivid colors were so awesome "back then." And it would be as effective today as it was then, yet we just don't see that much of it anymore, sadly. Phantom and Star really had it goin' on.

  • Wow, check out those HUGE chevrons. = classic

  • It be great to see you post the rest of this INCREDIBLE show! Love the PR! :-)

  • that was freakin awesome!!!!!!!

  • i just love the guard's uniform thing. LOL

  • Phantom's Lower Brass At it's Spine Tingling Best!!!

  • I saw this show in Dekalb, Illinois! They ripped my face off!! From 1:55 on is absolutely killer!!

  • Woahhh. Amazing.

And nice guard outfits. ;D haha. [[No offense]]

  • You all should have seen it live.

  • This just gives me chills.

  • I've not been able to see Phantom in person, but I believe that Pavarotti would be proud of this version of this song. It really is a show stopper and beautiful to listen to.

    DeltaGrunt 1/4

  • Puccini?

  • Yes, from "Turandot". "None shall sleep, tonight . . ."

  • Lol, yes I was refering to Deltagrunt saying that Pavoratti would be proud of this version when Puccini wrote it.

  • I was scared when they resolved to the unison at the end... then I almost cried when they really resolved to the chord. Whoo!

  • I could never get enough of this show while on tour in '91. Every chance i got..I would during that Summer. Amazing..Thank you Phantom.

  • It's all about that release and the echo afterward.

  • This makes me cry. Hahah

  • thanks for putting THIS video up! this is like their forgotten show!

  • This was Beautiful, I was there in person at age 15 to watch Phantom, I wanted to be in that group ever since.

Thanks for the DALLAS finals DCI!!!!!

  • JD is my life and my love.

  • JD Shaw is JD Shaw. As in, that's a description of him in and of itself.

  • Riposa in Pace` Maestro!

Thank you for Posting this... Pavarotti would have Loved it!

    God Bless

  • pavoratti???? what about puccini?

  • I'm with apex. That last chord when the melos lay it out there gives me goosebumps every time. I just wanna blast the speakers every time i hear it.

  • This show may have been partly responsible for my opera career. Shortly after hearing this Nessun Dorma I found a Puccini CD with Pavarotti singing.....the rest is history. Thank you Phantom Regiment.....I also marched Euphonium with the PR in 94.

  • Shivers every time I hear that last hit.

  • Great clip, I was wondering if you could or would be willing to load the entire Phantom show from 1991? By far one of my favorite seasons from the Phantom Regiment. The entire show was incredible to say the least! Thanks for your response. -Robb-

  • Thanks for posting this, I was in the bari/euph line that year, and we worked or asses of on this tune. The rolantandos and the major arm and leg movements (the intro to DCI of all that) was pretty demanding. And the final long chord with open 5th finish....PRICELESS!

  • Meant, rallantando... nice to see that your mother taught you to be polite. And, Happy Thanksgiving!

  • hahahahahahaha, nice one jeepcub

  • O dan what highschool do you go to? (and what state?)

  • ill try asap, im in band camp now 9-9 through this week so ill try when i can, and our ballad is nessun dorma, if you'd like type in trumbull in the search box and take a look at our 2007 show and 006, we won those years, we have the guy from carolina crown write our drill for each

  • Thanks for posting. Do you have movements 2 & 3(Pagliacci & Baccanale). The ending of this show and 2003Harmonic Journey... are the best closers...ever!

  • this was the first year I started going to Drum Corps shows with my dad and this is hands down my favorite show, ever. Thanks for posting!

  • Maybe PR's second best show ever behind New World in 89.

  • I've lost track of time. Is that J.D.?

  • Hell yeah it is!

  • Lovin it.

    Thank you.
