you are so funny and indeed a proud electronics guru-geek - getting humiliated by receiving a how-to-use-a-multimeter guide. :)) Before you buy you should clearly state that ure a guru so that they wont include dummy guides - ha ha ha ha. Anyway, how do I get fluxcap T-shirts? I want some for my family and friends.
No association or anything, but RS Australia are currently doing a deal on these; you get $110 AUD off a new 233 if you trade in your old multimeter- working or not. $440 with the trade in, is my understanding.
As Dave well says though, it's not really much help for an electronics(or process) tech or engineer. Sparkies, electrical engineers and people who really don't like being near live stuff will love it though.
Dave... Excellent review as always! I'm an auto tech and torn between the 233 for the convenience of the remote display, or the 88V for it's precision. Do you think the 233 is precise enough to be used in general automotive troubleshooting (sensors/parasitic draws/etc.)? Or the lack of precision compared to the 88V isn't worth the remote display feature? Thanks, mate! Too bad they don't make an 88V with the remote display...
How true, about the puny fold-out stand. Fluke could make that wider with detent . The stiffness of Flukes leads knocks my meter over too much when on the puny stand.
Fluke could possibly build an optional slide-in LCD readout but with trend indication or even scope graticule.
I'm looking forward to the first hack of the 233 that sends WiFi data to a PC using FlukeView software.
You rock, Dave. That remote head feature, plus the switch to AAs(mini-maglite batts will suffice if needed in the field),and a possible third party solution for data logging makes this meter desirable. The damn bail is a con...but that magnet is trick. I 'll have to get one for our kitchen refrigerator.... just so the g/f can point to the temp. read-out and say "What's that"?. LOL Great review, btw.
I know, it's a well known goof because "jiggawatt" is how the technical adviser to the movie pronounced it. I wasn't about to put "JW" on the shirt, I may have been lynched!
ey you wouldnt be able to do me a favor could you ?
when i recived my multi meter (second hand, coz im only 17, not reay to pay top dolla for a mult-meter) the writing on the rubber buttons have worn off. you wouldnt be able to take a photo of them for me? and so that i can write it onto the multimeter ?

The 233 and its detachable display might help to answer one of mankind's big questions: Does the light really shut off when you close the fridge?
criscros7 9 months ago
thanks a lot for your response,do you think between fluke 98 or 233 which one is best for automotive diagnostic use?
dawood737 10 months ago
@dawood737 Two totally different beasts, one is meter, one is scopemeter. Not comparable.
EEVblog 10 months ago
@dawood737 as he stated..different animals...BUT...i would rather have the scope meter. you can check alot quickly with that meter.

is this good for automotive us??
dawood737 10 months ago
@dawood737 Sure, more than rugged enough for automotive use, and the magnetic removable display would be handy.

The 80 series is about the same thickness with the rubber case, but yes, without the case is about half the thickness.
The 87-III is brilliant, better than 87-V IMO as it defaults to DC instead of AC :-)
