My young bloke is 2 and is fascinated by all things mechanical. I can pick locks a little bit, I have some lockwood padlocks around the place and he plays with them for hours. He'll learn. His uncle's a locksmith too.
There's nothing inappropriate about it. It's not like: "all right son, go plan a burg and execute it" or "This is how you cut out an ATM, mate." They're just like mechanical puzzles for kid I reckon. Give them as much as you can, in my view.
The kid is 6 like he's gonna remember how to do this when he's cruzing the neighborhood on his big wheels looking for the big score. Calm down people.
hi.. did you make your own key and if so, did you do it by hand? I have a Lockwood padlock i want to try and undo and have been toying with the idea of making a bump key (it's my own lock BTW). Just wondering how accurate it needs to be?
I understand your probably a locksmith, so that's your job. But honestly, that really isn't something you should be showing your kids and while i don't agree with the rude comments made this technique has made alot of people, that can't afford home security systems, insecure and plastering this all over the internet is irresposible on the part locksmiths everywhere. Say what you want i don't really care this is just my opinion.
And no one would disagree that it is an opinion to which you are entitled.
I ask you to consider three things:
1) The time between release of the technique and this video.
2) The fact that the kids do not have the knowledge to make the keys.
3) Manufacturers of linear cylinders have to stop marketing them as "HIGH SECURITY" and introduce available methods to increase resistance to "bumping"
Wow, your quite the lock smith little buddy. Thanks for showing us all how easy it is to open most locks. Your doing a real service by showing us this. I'm going to put combination locks to my house.
he calls you an idiot and he can't even spell jail. He's young. It's good to teach him as much as you can now. You never Know how long you'll be here to teach him.
Great bumping Josh mate. Keep up the good work buddy :o)

opening any locked door doesn't make you a thief, it just makes you really cool and popular.
