@mww88 +6g -4g Stall speed 20 mph pilot only, 28 mph pilot & passenger. climb 1100ft/min pilot only 700 ft/min pilot passenger. takeoff run 65 mtrs.I want one!
the dragonfly was designed for a single purpose: to tow hanggliders to altitude. But, because it was such an exceptionally well designed aircraft, and so strong, rated to 6g's positive and 3g's negative, it can do aerobatics. Of course it can't compete with a Pitts Special: it was never meant to. Its just the best flying toy on earth.
A new pitts for $41,500? Tell me where and I'll buy it.The Dragonfly has only been sold by word of mouth.Never advertised or made famous by winning international competitions.Comparing apples with oranges.
at US$41,400 for the 582 and US$59,000 for the 912 you may as well by a pitts. the price is just unrealistic i am afraid. no wonder they have only sold about 130 in 15 years.
Check barnstomers or trade-a-plane. Its more like $7,000 for the 528 and $19,000 for the 912. Buy a Pitts Special for the same price as a Dragonfly, sure. Thats a bit like telling someone they should buy a Porsche while they are shopping for a dump truck.
I am seriously interested, if you can point me to the ads in question, that would be great. I have a subscription to trader a plane but haven;t seen one for more than a year. I need a fun cheap machine for those other days. I have a Tigermoth and a Stearman but do work in them and it feels like work. I am after something that i can have some real fun in. If you can help at the prices you mentioned, even if in US i will freight and even give you a commision, if your interested pm me. thanks.
For private use, the 582 is far better. You can wear out and throw away three 582's to reach the price of a 912. Ask Bill Moyes at Liteflite. He will tell you the same.
