She was one of the pilots of the Shamblo in the novel, alongside her two brothers and father. However she later refused to kill anymore people and begged her father to stop which led to her being shot by him. After her death, her "spirit" aided Banagher by telling him the Shamblo's weak point.

Riddy, shot without trying after telling Banagher to shoot a thousand times. What I'm saying is the whole time he was telling Banagher to shoot he could have just taken the shot. It was a contrivance create melodrama. This aspect irritated me is because these are hour long OVAs. They don't come out very fast and this kind of cliffhanger is something I would expect out a 50 episode show. I'm still loving it, but yeah.
Well, the thing about Setsuna, is he started to develop but then they kind of just dropped that idea. Either way, I think most people could agree Setsuna is way better than Heero. At least Setsuna has a definitive reason to be the way he is. I think the problem is, I'm 24, and I'm getting just a little weary of anime melodrama. But I still absolutely love Gundam. Which is why Loran Cehack from Turn A Gundam might be my new favorite Gundam protagonist.
I'm just saying, it got too dramatic. The guy sits there and does nothing, that's getting a little too close to Evangelion waters for me. But oh well no point in me starting an argument where there be no need. Its still a really kick ass Gundam show, best OVA since.... well the last one 08th MS Team.
Actually, I'm more into the UC Universe. I like all Gundam shows except Seed. Emotional turbulence is fine, I just think its ridiculous drag out a scene, just to have him refuse to shoot, and then Riddy just does it anyway, why hell didn't Riddy shoot in the first place, would have saved 5 minutes. Their tactics didn't matter because Riddy simply takes the gun and shoots her, done. I guess I'm just growing tired of certain aspects of anime melodrama, and contrivances.
"why didn't Riddy shoot in the first place" Riddy abandoned their tactics because there was an opening at the last second, Right before the Shamblo fired its cannon at them, Loni redirected the reflector bits to block the cannon's shot which left the Shamblo's cockpit unprotected. If Riddy took the shot before the reflector bits moved then the shot would have been blocked.
I'll take a cold-hearted badass character who possesses good Mobile Suit piloting skills over a whiny pussy who is only good because he merges with a combat system of a Gundam and doesn't even do anything. I'm loving Unicorn, but this last one pissed me off with Banagher pulling a Saji.
@GoaterSlayer Heck, you only want to see the "badass" skills of the pilot and the full potential of the suit's power, not the emotional turbulence he holds within.

@GoaterSlayer Well at least you care about the character, even if it's in a negative way. Being badass is fine but characters like Setsuna (who I assume you're referencing to) are some of the most boring in fiction. The final fight in 00 could've been amazing, the actual action was extremely well done, but both Ribbons and Setsuna were "cold and badass", and came off as boring and I ended up not giving a s*** about either of them or, indeed, the fight. I'll take a Saji over a Setsuna any day.

@MrRegismk5 he mainly cries because he can sense not just the enemies emotions, but also because most of them are people he knows. can you honestly expect amuro to try and kill someone from whitebase if he defected after he first left while in the desert? plus to banagher this has only been a week since he first started fighting, while everyone else got either a months worth of time before things went wack, or had experienced it since they were only 7. the point is
@sweetdwhite actually its only been about a little over a week since he killed gilboa because it was roughly 4 days for banagher and zinnermen to reach the zeon remnents. an aditional 3 to get the ship out and maybe 2 days before the attack.

Riddhe totally showed how to pilot to Banagher but besides pure talent and instinct, Banagher is a weak pilot, I mean it surprises me that he is the main character, I hope that the last 2 episode will prove me wrong, I know they will .
A "weak" pilot who survived a duel against a literal Char clone in the Sinanju who easily took out 3 Londo Bell pilots and almost a battleship, while it was only his second battle. Most Gundam pilots are/were newbies anyway, it's a old tradition. Banagher is fine, he has no training, he's just surviving off his Newtype instincts and the sheer awesomeness of the Unicorn.
@Omegamegamanzx No training? Orlly? Why did he keep having flashbacks of being trained while in his Father's custody? , the kid was being groomed for Unicorn's pilot seat as soon as he was old enough to talk. This is why he empathises with Marida so well , they have more in common than being pilots.
Banagher's past in the OVA series is very vague and to my knowledge he only knows the basic controls of a MS as he is a engineer student. The Unicorn Gundam is also a very recent MS; being based off the Sinanju (which was based on the Sazabi).
I don't aprove the methods, but Zeon needs to be free of the greedy hands of the earth federation.
Zeon Zum Deikum saw the real meaning about the newtype's nature and proposed a new system, a new vision, and the idea of bring humanity to space to give the earth a well deserved rest was amazing!
But what about the Earth Federation purpose?
They don't want or can't leave the greed for power behind, and the independence of the colonies would be painful to their ego, to the old human nature...
just a heads up, people need to start purchasing more DVD/Blu Rays in the west... Bandai is closing down their facilities in the west. Because of this, all future projects are cancelled after February. No Dubbed Turn A. I bought all Unicorn Blu Rays and now future projects have to be IMPORTED! @MrJonez21 What I like about Setsuna is that he's kind of a compromise between the stoic badass who can kill when push comes to shove(like Heero) and the idealist who would choose peace and understanding over continued fighting and killing(like Banagher) I was just saying that Banagher wasn't wrong for wanting Loni to live if possible or for crying when reality is tough. Everyone's calling him a pussy for the things that I think make him a good human character.

@nexter124 I'd shoot too if there was an immediate threat to my life right in front of me and I didn't have time to look for another way to deal with it. I don't mean to sound naive about how war and survival work because I understand that people aren't perfect and can't always be rightious when it's life or death. I agree that it's important to deal with harsh reality as it is, but it's also good to never stop aspiring to change it so that kill or be killed won't have to be the only options.

@ExileXCross Maybe that's what this experience will teach him. I've heard that in the novel he kills Full Frontal later on(sorry if that's a spoiler, but it can't be hugely surprising since Gundam stories always boil down to the main kid vs the big bad) so maybe he'll learn to balance ideals and reality after this. Not wanting to kill, but pulling the trigger anyway when push comes to shove.
@LelouchVsGundam yeah that's what we call a dead man. Loni just went stormed through a heavily populated area full of civilians and she was ordered not to do it. Also killing Loni wouldn't be cold hearted now Banaugher isn't a soldier but he still should have killed her. I'm assuming in these next 2 volume Banaugher is gonna grow up a lot. Either that or he will die that would be a good ending
@sweetdwhite well he can sense the emption of those around him, (basically the 3 million civilians who were slaughtered) and the fact that he could see a bit of himself in her (at this poinnt he's just about lost everything and he might have turned out just like her if things were a bit different). also the fact that he almost succeeded in talking her out of it doesn't help. plus this isn;t the first time something like this happened in gundam (try looking up gundam x sometime)
@sweetdwhite As someone who has read the novel this whole scene bugged me. They changed it. Banahger was fighting Loni's Father, she was still inside the Shamblo(it actually takes four people to pilot it) and Banagher got through to her, she tres to end the fighting only for her father to shoot her. She reaches out to Banagher and guides him to shoot the chest, ending the conflict. At this point in the novel Banagher grew up quite a bit, he still cried for Loni but it had meaning. Here? No.
I'll admit it would have been better if they had gone with the novel's approach but I wouldn't say this scene has no meaning, at least not yet. It all depends on how the writers use the result of this conflict to develop Banahger in episode 5.
@zetatrain It had meaning BUT Loni was a lot better in the Novel. So it was easier to sympathize with her. Here? She was making excuses to kill innocent people and that disgusts me, malfunctioning phsycoframe aside, she was finding any excuse to kill someone.
The whole malfunctioning phsycoframe was the entire reason she started killing innocent people. At the beginning of the Torrington fight she didn't start murdering civilians left and right and it wasn't until the phsycoframe warped her mind that she started going on a murdering rampage. You're right she is easier to sympathize with in the novel, I just don't think she is the monster some people are making her out to be in the OVA.
@zetatrain She isn't really but with the OVA version, it's easier to call her a "monster" because all they see is her killing innocent people. I could understand changing certain aspects when adapting but I personally think this whole sequence with Loni was sloppy.

On the manga, the pilot of that thing (RX-0 Unicorn Unit 2 "Banshee") was a brainwashed Marida Cruz, and since Banagher doesn't want anyone using the Unicorn other than himself, the Banshee is later assigned to Riddhe (you can guess what happens later. Clue: Gundam Blue Destiny... XD)

Seriously? I mean this constructively, but some of you should really read the novels, or at least read up about the machine on the wiki. As much as I'd like Amuro and Char to make an appearance, it just isn't happening right now. Sorry to break it to you all, but it's Marida piloting the 'Black Unicorn'. Though the OVAs have deviated from the novel's story line, most of the important plot points are intact. I'm pretty sure they won't change Marida's designation as the Banshee's pilot.

Riddhe totally showed how to pilot to Banagher but besides pure talent and instinct, Banagher is a weak pilot, I mean it surprises me that he is the main character, I hope that the last 2 episode will prove me wrong, I know they will .

A "weak" pilot who survived a duel against a literal Char clone in the Sinanju who easily took out 3 Londo Bell pilots and almost a battleship, while it was only his second battle. Most Gundam pilots are/were newbies anyway, it's a old tradition. Banagher is fine, he has no training, he's just surviving off his Newtype instincts and the sheer awesomeness of the Unicorn.

Banagher's past in the OVA series is very vague and to my knowledge he only knows the basic controls of a MS as he is a engineer student. The Unicorn Gundam is also a very recent MS; being based off the Sinanju (which was based on the Sazabi).

I don't aprove the methods, but Zeon needs to be free of the greedy hands of the earth federation.
Zeon Zum Deikum saw the real meaning about the newtype's nature and proposed a new system, a new vision, and the idea of bring humanity to space to give the earth a well deserved rest was amazing!
But what about the Earth Federation purpose?
They don't want or can't leave the greed for power behind, and the independence of the colonies would be painful to their ego, to the old human nature...

just a heads up, people need to start purchasing more DVD/Blu Rays in the west... Bandai is closing down their facilities in the west. Because of this, all future projects are cancelled after February. No Dubbed Turn A. I bought all Unicorn Blu Rays and now future projects have to be IMPORTED! I like using the same source for all my orders.. so this will be awkward for me. Luckily it gives me time to save between each release. So excited to see the final volume of Gundam UC. such a wonderful ova

@MrJonez21 What I like about Setsuna is that he's kind of a compromise between the stoic badass who can kill when push comes to shove(like Heero) and the idealist who would choose peace and understanding over continued fighting and killing(like Banagher) I was just saying that Banagher wasn't wrong for wanting Loni to live if possible or for crying when reality is tough. Everyone's calling him a pussy for the things that I think make him a good human character.

@nexter124 yeah but there are 2 problems banagher had, while most people wouldn't.
1st. they aren't trying to kill him because they need him for laplauses box, so in a way he feels like he's even worse tthan they are at the moment.
2nd. the fate of the world is at stake hear, its not just the fate of one war, but possibly all wars surrounding the UC.
3rd. he actually knows the people constantly after him, and even gets along with quite a few of them on both sides, making killing them hard.

@nexter124 I'd shoot too if there was an immediate threat to my life right in front of me and I didn't have time to look for another way to deal with it. I don't mean to sound naive about how war and survival work because I understand that people aren't perfect and can't always be rightious when it's life or death. I agree that it's important to deal with harsh reality as it is, but it's also good to never stop aspiring to change it so that kill or be killed won't have to be the only options.

@ExileXCross Maybe that's what this experience will teach him. I've heard that in the novel he kills Full Frontal later on(sorry if that's a spoiler, but it can't be hugely surprising since Gundam stories always boil down to the main kid vs the big bad) so maybe he'll learn to balance ideals and reality after this. Not wanting to kill, but pulling the trigger anyway when push comes to shove.

Also killing Loni wouldn't be cold hearted now Banaugher isn't a soldier but he still should have killed her. I'm assuming in these next 2 volume Banaugher is gonna grow up a lot. Either that or he will die that would be a good ending

@sweetdwhite well he can sense the emption of those around him, (basically the 3 million civilians who were slaughtered) and the fact that he could see a bit of himself in her (at this poinnt he's just about lost everything and he might have turned out just like her if things were a bit different). also the fact that he almost succeeded in talking her out of it doesn't help. plus this isn;t the first time something like this happened in gundam (try looking up gundam x sometime)

@sweetdwhite As someone who has read the novel this whole scene bugged me. They changed it. Banahger was fighting Loni's Father, she was still inside the Shamblo(it actually takes four people to pilot it) and Banagher got through to her, she tres to end the fighting only for her father to shoot her. She reaches out to Banagher and guides him to shoot the chest, ending the conflict. At this point in the novel Banagher grew up quite a bit, he still cried for Loni but it had meaning. Here? No.

I'll admit it would have been better if they had gone with the novel's approach but I wouldn't say this scene has no meaning, at least not yet. It all depends on how the writers use the result of this conflict to develop Banahger in episode 5.

The whole malfunctioning phsycoframe was the entire reason she started killing innocent people. At the beginning of the Torrington fight she didn't start murdering civilians left and right and it wasn't until the phsycoframe warped her mind that she started going on a murdering rampage. You're right she is easier to sympathize with in the novel, I just don't think she is the monster some people are making her out to be in the OVA.

Those old school new type mobile suits allow/force the pilot to feel all the emotions of people around them. Other than that? Seriously? I mean this constructively, but some of you should really read the novels, or at least read up about the machine on the wiki. As much as I'd like Amuro and Char to make an appearance, it just isn't happening right now. Sorry to break it to you all, but it's Marida piloting the 'Black Unicorn'. Though the OVAs have deviated from the novel's story line, most of the important plot points are intact. I'm pretty sure they won't change Marida's designation as the Banshee's pilot.

most of mobile suits have it, from all sorts of series
its the targeting computer detecting another unit locking on to it.
beam rifle targeting is dependent on it unless using manual optical aim which requires alot of calibration (08th ms team: where they tried to snipe the zakus from oustide of guerrilla village)
similar to fighter planes "lock-on" warning.

i say amuro and char are still alive because they were never confirmed dead so there is quite a high chance they will appear somewhere in this series as for who might be piloting the black unicorn it could be amuro but i highly doubt it
