i would give anything to have been there... I really feel like i missed out terribly by not yet having seen them live. I will see them the next time they are in california for sure, but i definitely missed a whole era of AC that probably won't ever come back..
haha listen to this song while staring at a brilliant bright blue sky in math class and it immediately takes you out of math class and into a world of amazingness :D i absolutely loves this song and AC~<333
this is burned into my brain. best show i've ever been to. the sun was setting right behind us silhouetting chicago's skyline. that's why everyone keeps turning and looking. it was incredible. behind AC was an expanse of cloudy sky extending as far as we could see.
You can really hear AC maturing as true artists. This track is genius. Love how this song begins with a development section then goes into 7/4 time where the "song" begins. The uplifting feeling of this track contrasts greatly to the third track when they say "I must Bleed" which taps into a darker/sinister sound of AC we have never heard before. Great EP! Their music reflects the crazy world that we live in. Expect the unexpected with AC! :)
@tommyownage test test mr. ownage...let me rephrase the previous comment I proceeded to write so quickly after listening to this newest EP I discovered. There is a rubato section at the beginning that are also found in many of their tunes that create an open section that feels "free". The development section groove enters in 7/4 meter with a nice transition into the pop sounding melody that throws your ear around the 4:10 mark on this video but the quarter note remains constant.
they could've used 4/4 and created a poppy single, but it sounds better the way they wrote it. the time signature feels like an infant taking it's first steps; it's light and airy.
@jsaxr54 I find pumpkin gets a snakebite sinister as fuck. that song scares the hell out of me. that was made in 2002 so I think animal collective have always had a dark side to them, I mean look at avey tares solo album. that whole album is pretty sinister
@jsaxr54 the "development section" is in 7. and you really think bleed is dark? I find "Bleed" just as uplifting as this track, to me it's meditative and spiritual!
This show definitely could have been a lot better. Huge AC fan, was front row for this show. They were definitely underwhelming. They never hit a peak, and looped most of their stuff.
@t3hpez yeah as much as i love AC and while this song was fucking great, i feel like they just made the wrong decision about how to go about their set.
@endlessautodidact4 Actually, on the EP the song begins with samples of Panda Bear's voice, for about the first 2-3 minutes, then the Grateful Dead sample is used
This is so beautiful, after I read about it in The Week, I have been playing it over and over and over, going back to Dead 95 premiere of Chain and then back to AC
This will be on their Fall Be Kind EP, 2nd track (5 total) to be released in December. I was there too, a little left and back, thanks for the vid! Didn't seem like that many people knew this song though, more people knew it when I saw them in May in Milwaukee.
this was my fourth time seeing them. it was the drunkest ive ever been at a concert. theres a video floating around of me crowdsurfing twice during bro sport haha
thanks for posting this! I was a little to the right from you I think and this and leaf house were probably my favorite parts musically. I nearly teared up - it was so amazing

@TheBlackWelshman
That's not Panda Bear singing in the album. Or any member of AnCo. It's a Grateful Dead sample.
