  • @PrototypeAndroid I swear I'm the only person who has played this game here -.-

  • Bungie has implemented! grammar man

  • wow, i cant believe u caught this

  • Yeah, thats why I am currently trying to break my habit of going in with the melee kill to early when the person I am going after has full health, and I have none.

  • @SkepticalMetalArts This issue was fixed long before you made this comment.

  • @SkepticalMetalArts your retarded.

  • @MaceWinnoob Very creative, I like very much how you criticize players for not playing the way you do.

  • @SkepticalMetalArts You obviously have never played halo 3 if you said that 7 months ago that this problem was still there.

  • thats why i always strafe backwards..

    nice vid... 5/5

  • I've always thought it was that as long as the opponent still has shield left, any melee attack would have to take it out before it actually kills them no matter how much is left, except assassination or using a bladed weapon. Eh, whatever.

  • seriously, one shot from a gun, just one, is like ten times more powerful than a buttstock to the chin, so why is it you need to be shot about 45 times, but one or 2 melee attacks and you're dead?

  • Because he is a really strong supersoldier

  • @minimouba123 thank you

@seahawks3414 its master chief he is a naturally strong person with a supersuit on making him insanely stronger so its like the worlds strongest man or 2nd times like 5 or 10

  • Also a knife in the foot isnt a kill in call of duty what??? yeah thats right

  • i mean thats a kill? in the foot wow gay.... wtf how does that work? 2 sniper shots to the foot? all games will be somewhat unrealistic

  • thanks this helped alot! i always wondered why this happenned add me my gamertag s ccihelka!

  • also this "situation" is like one/million.

  • this seems like a justified system.

the more health person can survive two hits anyway. and would therefore win anyway

  • Happens to me every single day I play halo, and the more health person can only survive one hit also, but he wins because he punched within 1 second after the first guy did.

  • But this is fair. If you had more health it makes sense that you win even if you didn't melee first. Who cares anyway.

  • Would it?

If you were weak enough to be killed in one punch, and your opponent was weak enough to be killed in one punch also, then whoever punches first, takes off the health and wins right?

Wrong, for some reason the fact you have less health causes you to lose the fight, even though your melee is no weaker than it was at full health. If you think it through, it doesn't make sense physically/logically.

  • Yes, the person with least health does not have an inferior melee, but because they have less health, they are killed instantly by the other guy's melee. The guy with more health needed more than one melee to be killed.

  • He didn't need more than 1 melee to be killed, if he had simply stood there and the other person meleed him, he would have died.

Think of it like this, you and I both, in real life, have a Shotgun each. I punch you in the face twice first, you punch me in the face once. You then shoot me with your shotgun, and I shoot you with mine, 1 second later.

Who should die first/at all? Obviously me, your shotgun would kill me regardless of me taking 1 less punch in the face. In Halo, you die, I don't

  • Plenty of people commenting on this page.

it's not fair, and it gets annoying how people use this system to win fights even with their slower reactions.

FPS have always been about first shoot, first kill - Halo 3 changes that, and for no particularly good reason either.

  • they must have patched it since this video, as now we just have both players dyeing.

  • the reason this is the melee system is because the people get different connections in lag but I still don't see why it matters because even if it was by who it first people would say the same thing, "I HIT HIM FIRST!".but i'd rather have that instead.

  • video games arent realistic.

and what u can do is not use an AR like a fucking noob, whip out a BR and 4 shot that bad kid while hes charging you in a straight line trying to melee you

  • who ever melees first should win 100% of the time it shouldnt matter about the health. the realistic thing is the 1st to melee, but if bungie doesnt wana b real then keep it how it is

  • if whoever hit first was victor, then there would be so many simoultaniouse daeths and evryone would just die at once in contact with meele.

i think this melee system is good becuase if u want the kill, shoot more then what u hit, its rly simple and alot of ppl dont know that so use it as your advantage, instead of going up to the kill with melee, just shoot him until you see his sheild are down and shoot some more seeing if u can kill him on the spot, if ur close enough, THEN melee.

  • well nowadays its two guys drop dead at the same time which is even more restarded

  • Isn't it now that both players die on contact reguardless of if one has slightly more health.

  • No I think thats if both players have EXACTLY the same amount of health

  • falcon punch!

    2:00

  • since the person recieving the first melee still has some shield left, the melee only causes that person to lose his remaining shield. and since the person who landed the first melee is allready weaker than the person recieving the first melee, all he has to do is finish the fight off with his melee. if you see it from my point of view you will see that the melee system is ok. emphasis on ok.

    your point of view is:

    melee = finishing move.

this is what causes you to believe its flawed

  • i dont think its flawed at all. sure you may get cheated out of some kills but if you think about it its fair.

melee = instant no shield. even if a player has 1/100 of shield left, it is still a shield. when you melee some one and he has a shield, the melee will only take away the shield that is remaining. that is why in all 3 cases the "winner" loses. in all examples you showed, the first melee strike is used by the person with no shields/almost no shields.

  • WRONG lol.

mellee either reduces opopenent to no shield from full shield, or instantly kills if their shield is low enough.

    learn your halo.

  • thats what i said you douche. how about you take the time to read out my whole post before you attempt to make a fool of someone who knows more than you.

  • haha ouch

  • How can you say it's flawed? Yes it is unfair for the faster meleer, but it works exactly how bugie programed it.

  • based on the awesome gameplay of halo 2 you retard.

  • How does randomly stating that make me retarded?

  • This system makes sense though, you have ENERGY SHEILDS, that would obviously block the damage from a melee

Think about it this way, if you shoot a guy with full shields while you have no shields, he'll probably kill you even though you shot first

  • lol thanks for the vid!

  • I was wondering what was wrong. Makes sense now.

  • How you make it third person?

  • fail

  • Lol this is in arby in the chief remember when Master chief was very "sad face" after his melee battle with arby?

  • yeah nice

  • yes, ok, it is annoying when you are the person receiving the last hit and dieing, but, if you get the kill from the same melee type, you wouldnt be complaining! but yeh, it is pretty flawed.

  • I think people forget that this is just a game, and if you worry about a kill and are eager enough to post a video about it.I think its time to turn off the console and go outside take a deep breath and say it was lame but I think no one over the age of 14 gives a shit.

  • if not for the curent system, people would drop dead the same time TO offten, witch is stupid. and offten the kill would go to the guy with the better internet connection than the other, witch is unfair. and it really should'nt be a to big deal to you guys, i mean.. come on, its just a kill, and you only need to shoot the most bullets into the foe before you do you'r move.

  • then there should be a system where if both melees were at almost the same time the person who hit first survives and the other dies. this would solve the problem where they die at the same time and its fair.

  • once, i was facin this guy, and we both meleed at the same time, and we both died. is that wierd?

  • That happens to me all the time.

  • That's because they fixed the system. Both people die now instead of the person with the most health.

  • hope this hasn't been said before, but have you ever in this situation where both players have THE SAME AMOUNT of health left? it's actually quite funny, both players connect at the same time, and both fly back dead. weird.

  • Well considering that he had more health in the first place, he wouldn't have died from a melee hit normally anyways. However the other guy's shield was down so....I don't really see that problem

  • We the got the fucking point the first god damn time you said it dumb shit.

  • wow if yolu care that much about the melee system. you must have been a halo2 player that relied on the bxr/bxb to get kills. unfortunately you have battle rifles, wich if you were good enough, could get 4shot kills before you were anywhere near close enough to melee

  • Ok seriously, your an idiot. I'm sorry but being good at BxR and BxB took skill/reflexes whether you want to believe it or not. And also whether you agree or not, this melee system IS bugged. Tell me how you can get a bulltrue and still get beat down yourself? Oh because THIS SYSTEM IS FLAWED. So, the slow-ass noob who has NO reflexes what-so-ever gets the kill because he decides to press the button after I hit him? What the fuck happened to the damage from my melee THAT I HIT YOU WITH FIRST?

  • wow kid your complaining about agame you apparently dont kno much about, the melee system is based on the amount of health you have not the time you press melee, there fore forcin you to rely on aiming skills with a weapon.

  • If that made sense you could be cool. But the melee system is based on when you push the button. By your logic thats like saying, Shooting is based on the amount of health you have not the time you pull right trigger. God you are a dunmbass twat whore nigger bitch

  • it was based on the timing. and you must have pulled that analogy out of your ass. cause it doesnt relate to what i said at all. and the whole reason i posted was to point out that you dont need to melee unless u suck at aiming. if you think its nessecary to melee to get kills you should quit halo

  • quit crying about it and just fucking play the GAME

  • Wow i apreciate the time and observation into this and showing proof. thanks for youre time and showing this if this is still in effect im going to use it to my advantage.

  • so???? get over it

  • its changed now

  • XsspackX

No it hasn't. It never changed, it's still whoever has the most health. Bungie needs to switch it back to who ever pulls the first melee wins. Bungie is retarded. And so are you xsspackx

  • They did change it, you have to have A lot more health than your opponent to survive, if you are close in damage, then you both die.

  • The reason the melee system was like this is because if it was based off of timing, it would be no fair. If there is even a mili-second of interference on someone's side in a melee battle, then the other player will get the kill, even if the first player actually meleed first. Think about this, if Love, or w/e, melees on his screen at his house, at the same second his opponent did, but his opponent lagged for a mili-second, then Love unfairly wins. That is why this system was very fair.

  • That the lesser of evils. This system is worse, i think they should make the window of what they call a 'simultaneous hit' a bit smaller, right now it's like 2 seconds.

  • Right now the window is about an 8th of a second, get your facts straight.

Plus, Halo 2's melee was messed up, whoever had host or the better connection would always win.

  • Sorry, i didn't know it was only an 8th of a second, but it seems much larger than it is.

  • At least someone else understands why its there besides me.

  • they did update it, and dude, you are right! I hated it when that happened!! But now, I take the dumb bastard with me, like, everytime!

  • id rather get a take somone with me then go down alone. DAMN BUNGIE!

  • im pretty sure they updated it cuz ive been getting a lot of incidents where we both die

  • so was halo 2 melee where if their health was low enough to where both would die to a melee that the person who melee's first wins?

if it is then that is better, but in halo 3's you have to be less than a second within the same melee time tho

  • well... they dont need to fix it... just bring back the halo 2 method and i will be happy

  • five stared lol bungie FUCKED UP with this little idea of theirs. i really hope they fix it asap.

  • Look you guys, fixing the melee is no where near as easy as it sounds so stfu and just wait for Bungie to fix it! Its coming in the February update...

  • While it is a huge pain in my ass, I fully agree with you, i think if were patient the outcome will be good. Do you know exactly when in february the update will happen?

  • While I dont think the melee system is quite fair...I dont think people should quit playing the game just because of an update, they said there still working on it so why quit playin?

  • And has more bugs...

    SHORYUKEN!

  • I have the perfect solution to this problem:

Take your copy of Halo 3 out of your x360, and throw it in the bin and load up RE: Outbreak on the PS2.

    PROBLEM SOLVED!

  • It's a shame that RE:Outbreak sucked balls.

  • It's a shame, so does your mother.

    HADOUKEN!

  • Well, she deserves more playtime than RE:Outbreak.

  • classic.

  • Bungie is FIXING THE MELEE in the Auto Update 1 coming in Feburary!

  • yes and read my comment posted above you

  • u all dumb

  • The video proves a valid point. It's ok noobs don't notice. It's been bad enough that Bungie has been tweaking it. He's not lying or bad at the game.

The Melee system is flawed. Bungie's working on it. They are testing it with uber competitive players and MLG.

  • the reason it happens like this is for presision playing in halo...you have to be a quick thinker and fast at reacting in a situiation much like if it were real life...no time for a hesitation. It only makes sence the first to strike i the first to win seriously

  • I believe him. seems so it happens all the time in game

  • This is a load of rubbish. If you wanted to prove anything, you should have shown a situation where the player with more health doesn't melee back. If they die, you're right, if they don't, you're wrong. Based on my experience, you're wrong and you're just annoyed at those people who have their melee perfected and keep on killing you.

  • I agree, if two people are shooting each other for the same amount of time (with assault rifles for example) and they get in melee range, if one goes for the melee first, they die!?!? So, 0kay guyz, i hit him first, but i died.

  • All it does is discourage anticipation of a melee fight, something that ruins the skill and difficulty of judging what your opponent may or may not do, if you outplay someone you should still kill them everytime, melee really isnt outplaying anyone its more of a crutch when u have a low shield vs someone who blows.

  • More like "Wondering why melee in Halo 3 is so stupidly fucking powerful? And why is Bungie so damn dumb?"

  • the melee system ruined the game for me.

  • same i stopped playing because of it >>

  • ur gay duude, thats the point, dont be dumb and run into a melee if ur health is low that simple, plus its not any ones fault if u jsut suck at meleeing

  • yeah, i die all the time by this, really sucks

  • if you read the new bungie update it talks about the auto update comeing to halo 3 and talks about how thier using the community to create the new melee system in the au1

  • I guess it's deliberate, so that the players that shoot better dont die fighting players that get luck with the melee button.

  • Even if Bungie were trying to make this realistic, the player who meleed first, who had less health, would have enough momentum to smash the other player and kill him...

  • just wondering, what happens if both players have no shield at all? who wins it than? is it a melee kill on eachother, or is that caused by lag? or does it make sense when both have no shield and the first wins it? just a thought :)

  • both die i think thats what happens to me

  • good vid

  • spell much?

  • l2spell

  • idoit it is called shortend spelling

    so stfu mofo and gtfo

  • wtfwdyjgtfotwagkys

what the fuck why dont you just get the fuck off this website and go kill yourself

  • YEah ah NO

  • Dude. you're fucking stupid. If you're trying to get a grievance across, don't call your audience a bunch of retards before you even get to your point in the video. WE UNDERSTAND LOVE HAS LESS HEALTH! Fuck, after the GOT IT? I stopped the video 'cause I don't have to put up with that shit from some Halo 3 asshole.

  • Thanks for posting. I was wondering why I lost the majority of melee showdowns in Halo 3 and now I know why. Bungie really should make this information known to players, otherwise the same people will be punished time and time again for nothing more than having good timing and reactions. It was only when I realised that I was losing too many melee confrontations that I thought I should check to see if there were any secrets behind the melee system in this game, which I now know.

  • hahaha i thought that part was funny

  • Wow, I've never been impressed by the Halo games, but I didn't think they were this broken and horrendously designed.

  • its not my problem that the other player has less life and dies by the time he gets melee of course his gonna die comens sense. i have more health you have less health its obvious that the one with the most health is not gonna die perfectly good sense RETARD!!!!!!!

  • U misinterpret the system. If i have 2 points of health (hypothetically) and my opponent has 1, and a melee does 3, even if he melee's first, (a blow that would kill me, subtracting 3 from my 2) and i melee second, i kill him just because i have more health, even though his melee would have killed me before i could have taken a swing at him.

  • EXACTLY, perfect explanation, cisslc13 do u get it yet u dumbshit

  • You see there is a huge problem there. It is givig the worse player at that point in time a unfair advantge. If the player is falshing and gets hit they should be dead. Period. More heath doent mean so much heath to the point of getting hit once would't kill you. Now i ask who;s the fuckin retard? retard.

  • yes...always happens to me,

i always thought it was the lag, but ty for posting this vid

  • i think the melee should do different amount of damages like in halo 2, hitting them while standing still=minimum damage, hitting while running=mild damage, hitting over head while running=major damage

  • melee just does same amount of freaking damage no matter how u hit em, u'd think that hitting them in the dome would do a lil more

  • unless you hit them in the back and assassinate them, in which case its an instant kill.

  • You're wrong. Basically, with the example of high ground, when the first person to be meleed was punched, his shields were still in the process of being drained, thus not down enough. Melee fights should ALWAYS go to the player with more health. That's simply common sense. What I don't like is the amount of lunge. And the Mauler in general. Worst gun ever. No skill required.

  • melee should go to person with most health, IF its at the same time, but not if u hit the person before they hit u

  • The system is great as it is. Once u undetstand how it works, it is by far the most balanced solution to melee kills.

  • this stupid video proves nothing. i hate theses gay critics.

  • If you understand this system, why do you consider it broken? I believe it's an attempt to rectify the significant advantage that host would otherwise always possess when it came to a melee.

With this system, you just have to be sure to shoot your opponent to make sure all his shield is gone before meleeing.

Test it again, show that when both people's shields are down, not with a sliver left, the first person to strike wins.

  • nice video... clearest... impossible

i understand now why i get killd if i melee first..

bad idea from bungie... we r talking about skills not balance

  • nice video...better clear impossible...

now i understand why i get kill if i melee first...

but bungie didnt hav to do this.. we r talking about skill not ekilibratin.. its a bad idea

  • i still will never understand why i shoot a guy With a SHOTGUN!! from about 4 feet away yet a mellee is still required to kill him.

  • The thing I hate most is that you cant jump over peoples melee, instead you get assassinated... when the guy is looking at the ground. Just retarded. Nice vid.

  • Now many many situations make much much more sense

  • in the first example the blue guy has enough shields/health left before the melee atack to withstand a melee attack, if you notice his sheilds are down after the melee showing he actually got hit but didn't die because he had enough health to live

  • not really... the blue guy had enough shield to die from one melee

try it on a custom game u retard

  • oKeyBlade, you're drastically ignorant for someone commenting so assuredly. These examples give MORE damage than is needed. There are THREE severe flaws in the melee system. The first is that it's obscenely overpowered. Test it yourself oKey. Shoot 6 AR bullets, that leaves about 20% shield.

  • That's sufficient to launch into your idiot-friendly melee kill. The second is the absence of the RULE OF THREE. Do you know it? Standing melee is modestly powerful. Running melee is fairly powerful. Jumping melee is highly powerful. EVERY melee in HALO 3 is as, or more powerful than HALO 2's most powerful. RIDICULOUS!

  • The third flaw, of course, is the health system. Look, I don't even mind the system of the player with the most health winning. The problem is the stupidly wide window of opportunity that allows the sleepy jacks to get over reflexes. It should only count that way if they actually do melee at the same time. And for lag, it should be Timestamped with 100% client trust, to determine a simulataneous event. This open window does fuck all to combat lag, it just presents a new problem for us.

  • l think the Mauler is the real enemy

  • great information video, BUT DONT FUCKIN REPEAT IT 3 OR 4 TIMES WE GET IT WE GET IT lmao

  • ur a dumb ass EVERYONE knows that the player with most health wins... this video was a great reference to that

  • omg dude, he only gets the kills because a mele will take you to a flashing bar, if them meled at a flashing bar your dead ! its as simple as that, if you still have a blue bar, u need to mele at least twice.

  • Your an idiot, in every situation shown in this video the health bar was less than half on both players before the melee. You will ALWAYS die from a melee at those health levels.

  • no u dumbass, it only brings you to flashing red IF YOU HAVE FULL HEALTH. anyhting below KILLS YOU. got it? dumbass...

  • im saying this randomly but maybe the later melee blocks part of the first?

  • i agree we should all never play bungie games til they fix it

  • go ahead and stop playing while the rest of the world gets over it and takes it like a man. they have a shitty system, I admit BECAUSE I GET CHEATED ALLLLLL THE FUCKING TIME lol. but the rest of the game is still fun and because of one detail doesnt mean the game is ruined. if you meant that comment youre just a big-ass baby :P

  • :(:(

  • Lol. Never happy. There is a problem, you all whine, they fix it. The fix is a problem, so you whine some more, they fix the fix, and then the fixes fix becomes a problem, so you whine. Oh, and Mr. Ubergrim... A Game played between two people on the SAME X-Box console will experiance no Latency, as the information has a microscopic distance to travel in comparison to a LAN game, or a Live game. So know what your talking about before you make yourself look like an arse.

  • Actually, the other system was 10 times better. In all honesty, Halo 3 really hasn't been the game I thought it was going to be. I was merely pointing out the biggest flaw they could have.

  • Its called latency, EVERY GAME has it. Deal with it you whiners.

  • This new system is total bs. Almost makes me want to go back to host melee, as long as I'm not up against the host, the fight is at least favorable to whoever has the quicker reaction time.

  • how would you know your melee still wasn't enough to kill him? how do you know how much health he had?

  • The melee system looks good on paper, but in actually gameplay it's awarding the player with slower reaction time. And now the melee battles are scripted and linear, there's no longer the intense battles of whos going to win like there was in Halo 2.

  • Actualy, the health thing only applies when both players melee at the SAME TIME, the problem is the game takes it at the same time, by this doesn't happen visually, so there you go, you're whining for no reason :[

  • This has happened to me more times than I can count. I go in for the clear melee kill, but he somehow lives and kills me.

  • This happens to me far too much.. If you argue this, you don't play enough to understand how frustrating it is.

  • Dude, the system works fine, I kill plenty people like that, and plenty of people manage to kill me like that, it all woks out. If you're sofed up with it, keep your distance and go for headshots/snipes/ or just shoot...

  • Uhh no offense because this video is well done, but the melee system makes perfect sense. Put it into perspective:

why would the guy with less health be awarded the melee kill against a guy who has more health than he does? He would've lost the fight if he hadn't melee'd anyway.

Also take into account that different weapons have different amounts of melee damage. The mauler that Love is using does less melee damage than the AR.

  • your an idiot

  • Hey! eat it.

  • That was II headshot II! I remember you, though you were a commannder and I was gunnery sergent, I owned you on zombies!!

    Assasinated by a zombie.

...then you betrayed me, ova annd ova againn...

  • dude send that s/hit to bungie.......

  • I knew something was wrong!

  • each time i kill some1 with melee it make me so wet i start touching my self and cumming evrywere on my couch

  • bungie focused on the people who arent good in the game too much and not the other good people. and i dont mean mlg but still.

  • I knew something was wrong!!

    Fix this shit!

  • Damn, no wonder I lose a ton of meelee battles, what are we supposed to do about our K/D ratio? That is BS that I get so many deaths due to that without compensation!

  • Furthermore, maybe melees are only designed to take your shields down? Is it possible to kill someone when they aren't completely drained of their shields? I don't have Halo 3, but when I get it I'll test it out and post the video. God... three comments... I'm such an ass. Thanks for reading my blog, guys.

  • You can kill someone without their shields being completely down. I hate the new system but wh1ter0se makes a valid point but I still hate it.

  • Interesting stuff... but I watched this video from the H3 forums, and some guy posted something along the lines of "yeah melees pretty much take all your shields down", and it hit me. I watched the video again and noticed that in all three examples, the person without ANY shields was killed by the melee. I think that's what Bungie was shooting for. See, when you've taken enough damage to lose your shield, fatigue kicks in for Our Hero.
