  • Alot of this makes sense, especially whites in 'black face paint' or whites parading around in Indian costumes in front of the nation, BUT---look at it from all sides, not just 'people of colors' vs. whites, ok?

There is racism on ALLLL sides. There are plenty of mixed blood whites, who are called wannabees. Whites are forbidden to use the 'n' word, YET it is said over and over by black people--to each other, in rap, in every day life, but that's OK???

  • DEEP

  • Is it only 'white' people that can be racist?

This is a lot more about money than culture [am I restating the obvious?]. Don't want white folks breakdancing and cumping? Then don't expect white dollars for samesaid music.

Gotta say, the fake chief fannying about on the basketball court is pretty pathetic.

    Interesting video.

  • damn. the images of rap videos juxtaposed against white people break dancing and doing hip-hop is also inappropriate. not to mention inacurate and irrelevent.

hip-hop started as a multi-cultural street preformance thing in new york and people of all races participated and were accpted as valid participants. not to mention that it was debbie harry- a white blond blue eyed woman- who got hip-hop mainstream recognition. i dont know why brothers think hip-hop is "their's".

    it isnt.

  • hey. yes hip hop is multicultural. but we need to question how culture is commodified and sold by the mainstream media. the point is not to say that these "white people" (actually black men dressed as white women) are bad, it's to make fun of how culture has been appropriated by the corporate media and understand that representation does not always equal power, and by taking on cultures we are engaged in political discourse.

  • yeah youre right. it's unfortunate that alot of people equate representation with power, especially when there is a great deal of misrepresentation goes with it.

  • EDIT

what i meant to say was "when a great deal of misrepresentation goes UNNOTICED or worse yet, construed as accurate"

  • say, how did you get the flavas doll commercial at 1:36

  • Hip Hop is heck-a dead.

  • What a joke some of these comments are. How about niggas in the US appropriating reading and writing from the white man? etc.. etc..

  • Excellent video. Juxtaposing the old minstrelsy with the new is genius. I hope whie people will start to realize what they are really doing when they decide to play "Indian"

  • they be gettin it......omg that was a great video

  • M.I.A Big up Sri Lanka!

  • Wonderful video! I see cultural appropriation all around but no one seems to notice or pay it any mind. Kudos for also including the mascots and the people dressed as Indian. Many people don't notice that either.

  • Thank you so much for your comment. That totally touched my heart. Much love!

  • This is a truly excellent video! It really drives home the point that white wannabes playing NDN are just racists playing at redface using real people as their spiritual mascots. This is extremely educational on an emotional level. Chii Miigwetch for making this!

  • Pretty cool. Loved the Krump footage. Somewhere on YouTube there are some boys at a pow wow dancing to hip hop music (wish I knew the title so you could take a look).

  • elle, really great piece!
