  • Best car ever.

  • You dont see promo's like that anymore. These days it's usually glamor shots of a car cruising through city lights, people loading a pram in the back.. Now THIS is like.. Irresponsible racing/drifting/spinning out. Oh the critics would be going crazy. Man.. How much does our neutered culture suck these days..

  • @TCoops ikr in australia a bmw z4 (i think) promo got banned cause it was doing burnouts and donuts. mind you though it was paint on like a plastic canvas on the ground in a warehouse. apparently it encouraged hooning

  • Love the way the footage is blatantly sped up at the start, I miss the 90's.

  • I can now see how the press was fooled by its handling behaviour with this video

  • At 1:56: "Very very steady. I'm in complete control of this car." AAAAAAHAHAHAHA! You must not be driving it too terribly fast you fool! HAHAHAHAHA!!!! I love my MR2 but it is NOT forgiving or confidence inspiring. Credit the high belt line. They might as well have put the motor on the t-tops :-) Wouldn't trade mine for anything though. "Exciting contradiction!"

  • so true

  • Fuck my tits, the 90s were awesome.

  • Here's the high bank accelerating pushing it hard tremendous explosion and i jizzed in my pants

  • they need to steal lotus designs again.

  • @Crazybenjiwoo

They used Lotus designers to build the MR2 FYI. Toyota and Lotus has been Buds for years (Thank God) If you don't believe that call Lotus and ask about their engine in the Lotus Elise.

  • @Aztech355 buds... not so much, its just contract work is all..

Much like ford and lotus in the 60's.... the second lotus get comfy they get dumped like a pile of shite till someone else picks them up again.

  • @Crazybenjiwoo

The fact of the matter is that Lotus worked with Toyota. I own a 91 MR2 turbo and it's wonderful so anyone that doesn't like it can suck a nut. I like Ford also, but Sports cars all day for me.

    - To each is his own..

  • @Aztech355 driven it and several AW11's, i like them... not a fan a such of lotus's... unless its an elan or a beauty like that.

Fords are found on roads dead ;)

  • toyota needs to make things like these again

  • I ♥ MR2

  • @frickeman7

    Me 2! ^_^

  • RHD with USDM turn signals/trim?

  • Maybe someday I'll get a SW20 incredible styling, right now my AW11 is just my introduction to mid-engine rear wheel drive cars.

  • MR2 SW20 3SGTE - Twin Entry Turbo... thats just bad ass.

  • for all the people complaining about "snap oversteer" and bad handling in the wet...

get better tires or stop being so retarded. I have a 91 with just over 200rwkw and have never had a problem handling it in the wet. I'm not saying I'm a fantastic driver at all, I do like to push it hard from time to time tho and have found the handling well balanced you just need to remember the weight is in the back so backing off mid corner is a bad idea- drive it like a MR is meant to be driven

  • omg so badass! makes me want to go haul ass in my mr2 now ^_^ Toyota used to be the coolest! What happened?

  • @AsmodiusMKII the econonamy hit... and the ozone is starting to break open... giving us the yaris and the preis

  • @fc3sghost there's nothing worse than those damn prius's clogging up our carpool lanes here in Cali. I hate them so much, and alway make sure to pop some flames when they are behind me lol

  • Anche io ne ho una! E' una turbo ed è molto preparata!

  • if you beleive this then buy an mr2 like mine youll die learn the car be the car be water my friend

  • OH MEIN GOTT!! Diese kleinen Felgen!!

    - die liegen bei mir im Keller. ^^

  • Learn to mid-engine. snap-oversteer my ass. I have owned my 92 turbo for three years and never lost control due to snap oversteer. My first car too. They killed it in 93 with the revisions imo.

  • wtf... did they say maximum control on wet roads?

  • Love it, never seen that advert before. Did anyone else notice the wheel center cap missing halfway through the video? xD

  • damn i want one! :'(

  • I remember the Toyota press advert that showed the red MR2, Celica and Supra together. Those were the days. Now it's an Avensis next to an iGo. Give over!

  • both my mr2s have been hard tops. my first car was an auto 92 Glimited. second car is manual hardtop, toms kit, DOTCOM 17's, bilstein shocks, airscoop and illegal tints.

im 17. gotta love NZ for the driving age here :D

  • and yes I know because I had two 91 mr2 turbos, one steel mist gray with sunroof, no lame ttops. ttops ruin the car

  • it's called snap oversteer and it's prevalent in the 1991 and 1992 cars. It was supposedly dialed out in the 93 and later cars.

  • MR2 SW20 future classic car!

  • it tends to lose some grip in the front tires when exiting corner and accelerating.. or at least i think so with my ~280bhp sw20^^

  • What size are your wheels?

  • wintertires are 195/60 r16, but summerwheels are 205/35 r18 at front and 235/30 r18 at rear.

  • Hey thanks, that is a good starting point for me. I have a Celica ST204 that I am currently working on converting to an ST205, and picking up an MR2 Turbo by this weekend. I think it just needs a new speedometer cable and a head gasket, but not a bad buy for $2.2k, with 155k miles on a 91'. I can't wait to get mine and tackle those canyons.

  • @Zenroph

    that's called understeer

  • @Zenroph tune ur suspension get stiffer sway bars, better tires, strut bars, coil overs, that should give it some more stability in the corners

  • just got me a 91 mr2, looking forward to many years of fun,

  • i have an mr2 and fuck me its scary in the wet

  • span mine twice so be carefull

  • Dnt get me wrong i love this car, i have one, but the great in all conditions is a load of S**T! its all over the place with the slightest amount of drizzle!

  • i got a celica, id kill for an mr2

  • I love this!!! =D!

  • what? no..the car is perfectly driftable just a bit tail heavy..

  • He speaks the truth! And I have an MR2. It is possible to drift an MR2, but it is also possible to dig ditches with a spoon, as another member of MR2OC put it.

  • Too bad Toyota don't make them like what they used to be anymore.

  • the spyders are gay

  • @theguyyah I think some of the new MRS and spider MR2s are as good or even better than the older MR2s but they dont look as good.

  • awsome!!!!!

  • Great cars.

  • I sat in one a while back and i was amazed how cramped they are

  • are you 20 feet tall?

  • 6ft

  • i own an mr2, im 6'2", and i can stretch my legs out fully in either seat. i thought they would be cramped, but surprisingly not even close.

  • ITs just not what im use to.

  • what dose SW20 stand for

  • it's just the chassis code

  • Yay. haha, MR2's are said to be the Poor mans Lambo. Just like the RX7 FC's are a poor mans Porche. Sure cheaper then the Lambo, but its still very very fun to drive.

  • I always heard Poor mans Ferrari but what the hell I love them all!!

  • Yup its all good either way! I still love them all too

  • Ferraris are a richman's MR2

  • I've heard that before. I'll try to post my 91 MR2 turbo when I get done with it.

  • good reply. A lot of people say the Mr2 is a poor mans Ferrari. I say it is a smart mans Ferrari. I have nothing against Ferrari, great cars , but how many have you seen actually been driven more than50-60 thousnand kms

  • @95MR2TO totally agree!!

  • The best MR2 is the 91

  • Nah... its the 88

  • no probs with mine apart from this cheesy ad lol :)

  • it has a tendency to over steer alot

  • Only if driven by someone who isn't used to the dynamics of a mid engined car.

With any car you shouldn't brake or even let off the throttle suddenly in the middle of a fast turn, but it is particularly important with cars like MR2s that have a lot of weight at the back.

  • True but they improve the snap over steer of the Mr2 by 1994.

  • Seriously THE most underrated performance car of the 90s. I take my SW20 out for time attacks in the mountain roads of Palmer, Alaska and there is nothing more fun to drive. 2600 lbs, turbo, mid-rear, and a suspension designed by Lotus engineers... friggen c'mon!

  • "always in great style"

  • PUSHING IT HARD

  • TREMENDOUS EXPLOSION

  • @TDFStudios i frickin love the japanese

  • i know but i had a lot of probs with it,i'll definately buy another one in a few years

  • i sold mine last week and i miss it

  • You fool!

  • what have you done?! :D

  • why has toyota stop making such sports cars????

  • they are too conservative. they used to be cutting edge, then they puss-ed out

  • Well, it has to be the fact that they hate the sports car now.

  • Proud to be a MR2 Owner! :D

  • Amen to that! Mine is going to the grave with me. Over a girlfriend or kids, I'd choose the car.

  • The rear spins on wet grounds if you apply too much gas

  • my rear spins on DRY grounds if you apply too much gas...1st, 2nd & 3rd gear!

  • This makes me proud to be an SW owner!

  • the SW isn't so bad on wet roads even down pours so long as the tires are decent in the rain and the driver is smooth with the weight transitions. even in the dry people have complained that the car is tail happy. every car's worst attributes are magnified in the wet.

  • Actually, I've driven my MR2 in the rain, and I had to make the tail step out of line, other then that, I find it takes me being stupid to make the tail come around. I would drive my MR2 in the rain without reservation. I would have reservations about a Miata in the rain. I was driving one in the rain, making a left hand turn, and almost ended up facing the opposite direction, just by giving it a little to much throttle.

  • my mr2 handles like a shoping trolly in the wet so i dunt no what you lot are on about

  • The MR2 handles ok in the wet, you just have to know how to drive a mid-engine car more gently. I autocross in the rain with a MR2 and an RX8 (both are in the same class B Stock) and the MR2 does better in the wet.

  • I've got 2 SW's. One has GT Radial Champiro 50's, the other has Toyo Proxie Vimode's.

I feared driving in the wet, as it felt so skittish, like I wasn't in control. That was the one with the GT Radials.

Now I've got the daily MR2 with the Toyo's on, and I now have more confidence in the wet than anything else I've driven. Even if I get the back end out intentionally, its very controlable.

Don't skimp on tyres when it comes to MR2's.

  • i dont i also have toyo proxies all round they are great in the dry but i just find them slipy in wet i did put cheap tyres on my na once never did it again. got rev 3 turbo now love it

  • i have gt radials champiro 50's fitted to the rear of my rev3 turbo never had any probs with it in the dry or inthe wet i find them good tyres that wear and grip well, previous to that i had yoko's which wear out far too fast imo. cheers

  • Love MR2's Im getting a Rev 2 / Rev 3 Turbo hopefully come July. But still got to say..

Control unbelievably easy.. on wet roads maximum control even when breaking at high speed this car stays stable.. NO THEY DONT!!!! sorry paul you're wrong!

  • Exactly. I was shaking my head said that, and while he was breaking loose on the wet road. Like timeswasting's post, I've spun out and did a full 180 onto on coming traffic making a right turn at moderate speed with performance tires. MR2's hands down are dangerous on wet roads.

  • HAhahahahaha, i had a larf, "high speeds, 90 degree turns, so much controll..." (bitch) "umm paul your kinda fucked now.." (paul replies in same monotone) " oh shit..what the fuck.."..........

  • lol

  • thanks for posting this.

  • How's the handling Paul?

Paul: Put the cheesy music louder & open your legs wider...

  • What the guy says from 3:24-3:30 is a lie!

  • lol..haha you might be right on that one

  • +2 to that ..

the mr2 is one of the worst in the rain, unless you like to get dizzy doing circles uncontrollably .. hahah ..

    im getting a 91 turbo tommorow morning .. :P

  • FUCK YOU.MR2'S RULE.O'DOYLE RULES

  • Drive it in the rain (well drive it hard)

  • i want a mr2 =[

  • Mr2's are some of the best cars made! I love my mr2 turbo it's like a big go kart =]

  • That's exactly how I feel about my turbo mr2. A big powerfull go-kart!

  • cheesy add lol wikid car tho i cant fault my old h reg mr2 it never lets me down i love it

  • Sorry I mean that the MR2 was superior to the fiero, so before make some stupid comment, I clearified which car was superior, and it is the MR2. MR2s are greater then Fieros.

  • Also, the first gen Fieros couldn't crack 95 mph, because they had a small very underpowered engine. Also the Fieros were prone to engine fires if I remember right. Also, your posting a comment on a MR2 video site, about a car that was obivously superior.

  • oh the fiero had a V6 which could take on an mr2 and beat it... Maybe ONE time ONLY lol cause it was as reliable as.... A square for a wheel... broken all the time....never could a fiero beat an MR2...

  • yeah, i raced a v6 fiero with my n/a mr2; it beat me but not by much. however, since then i've swapped in a gen2 3S and just in stock form, that v6 would have -0- chance...

  • Oh Yeah right dude, the Fiero was better! HA HA HA HA! MR2s are awesome. Hey, at least the MR2 was made of steel, not fiberglass. A friend of mine had a Fiero that he only drove for a couple of years, it is now rotting in his parents front yard. I looked at it one day, and thought that it was very poorly made. Continued....

  • While you're in your own world thinking that, we'll be in the real world where fiero's don't know what the front of an MR2 looks like, just the back.

  • Fieros were beautiful looking cars, especially the GT versions. Their sleek styling came about 5 years before the 2nd generation MR2. Unfortunately, mechanically the Fiero was absolute crap. Not even close to comparable to the mighty MR2.

  • They out beat Honda's NSx by six years!

  • The Toyota Mr2 generations 1&2 were/are the most exotic cars Toyota ever built. I love my 91 MR2. There is just something about them that the supra even it last evolution didn't have. They are revolutionary, as they were the first mass produced mid engined Japanese car.

  • just got my 1st mr2 two weeks ago its awsome def recomend gettin one

  • I don't know what they are ;P

  • I love MR 2's.

  • man........

i have my mr2 in the back yard because it needs a lot of work. i miss my mid-ship. for now im driving a 08 scion xb. dont get me wronge i love my xb, but its not the same. one day ill fix my mr2 but it will have up grades......yeah.

  • lol i love how they make a point about how stable it is yet in half the video they show the driver spinning out of control. i own a '91 and it is far from stable compared to longer wheelbase cars. i'm not saying that's bad though... just makes things more interesting

  • ive only owned mine for 8 years. i dont think that all cars are equal in the handling dept. from what ive experienced, this car takes an EXTREMELY skilled driver to be able to handle when having fun tossing it through twisted/uneven roads at higher than posted speeds. you have no idea until youve driven a 91-92 to its absolute limits. ill knock on wood but have ONLY come within inches of destroying my 2 or my life for that matter. but life's too short not to enjoy it. >=)

  • i plan on buying one, but i dont consider myself an extremely skilled driver but then again im not someone who goes into 35 corners at 60. as long as its reasonable/safe speeds, it handles solidly right even in the rain?

  • I wouldn't test it in the rain. I've spun out on a wet road in mine and I was merely making a left turn!

  • Hey I wonder if the "Paul" that the woman refers to is Paul Newman because it sounds like him

  • One of my favourite Toyotas thanx 4 the video!!!

  • late 1990 early 1991

  • i need to get one of those red suits

  • At least it honestly portrays the handling in the wet ;-)

  • Handling stays the same. What's so hard for people to understand? The only thing that changes is overall grip just like any other car. If you can't handle it then it's your problem, not the cars.

  • so all cars are 100 perfect?

  • It's merely different.

  • You are merly a child.

  • Im wordeing what year is that video ? im thinking 1989 but im not sure.

    Anyone knows ?

  • I'd say ~1989 too as thats pretty much when the SW20 came out.

  • SW20 FTMFW!!!

  • This is the best video, i've got a 1996 with a 3SGE but it's way tamer than the older cars. Can't wait to get my coilovers on and maybe ditch the 3SGE for a 3SGTE instead.

  • I have a 91 turbo and it is a blast to drive. It is fine in the rain and only kicks out when I make it. Don't put cheap tires on it or she will toss you into a wall. A blast to carve up some twisting roads!

  • nice #1 Go Go Ok!

i miss my mr2 turbo , but i dont miss it trying to kill me on every corner and it was like dancing with death driving it in the rain!

  • Warning! Chode alert! Learn to drive.

  • you dont own an mr2 so get off the bandwagon

  • Waaaa waaaa mommy it doesn't push like my Civic shit box! It's defective.

    Kill yourself.

  • nice #1 Go Go Ok!

  • I bet you the guy is going nuts about the snap oversteer ahahaha

  • oh just for the record I own 2 mr2's a 91 and a 93 don't know who gave negative rep to my comment...

  • great video lol.

  • dude i have one.........and i miss driving it.

    it needs a lot of work(tlc).have a 91 mr2 N/T goint to make it a turbo...... tinking of getting a mr2 spyder....

  • Sweet vid i love MR2's
