Very interesting to watch the assembly process. I'm in the process of making a wooden tool chest myself. I think getting the drawers to fit perfectly will be the hardest part (I don't have an awesome vertical belt sander to tune them on, unfortunately). One question: doesn't the wet rag just partially dissolve the glue and make it seep into the wood grain worse? I let the glue dry first then scrape it off on my projects. Maybe it doesn't matter with enough sanding.
Thank you for your question. No, we didn't stop making chests in the USA. All of the products on our website GerstnerUSA(dot)com are made at our factory in Dayton, Ohio. Every chest we make in the USA has Dayton, Ohio on the drawer label.
However, you are correct about the Gerstner International name, which is a separate line of chests that are imported. All of the "Gerstner International" chests are on a different website, Gerstner-International(dot)com.
I think there's a Gerstner box in my future, we had one when I took machine trade in high school and have wanted one since, more so now that I know that there made by hand
I worked at this company in the 1980's. I bought my dad a w-42 which was passed back to me after I retired from the Army. we didn't make em the way they are now. I think cutting all the extra steps out was a smart move.
I worked there 1 year prior to going into the army in 1981. I also have a walnut 42

Didn't they stop making these in the U.S.A? That's why the international part was added to the name???

I don't think I could ever use something that pretty. I'd always be afraid of messing it up.
