I'm quite new to these videos about photography and the different methods used, but I never expected to see some of the Bitchy comments, what's that all about?
Ansel Adams, Henri Cartier Bresson, Steve Mccurry and all other important photographers didn't have tutorials explaining how to take pictures, they just shot what felt right to them, and so they developed their own style. So my message to you is: stop copying and pasting the way of shooting that those "how-to" videos teach, set your mind free to experiment new techniques. Anybody can mount a camera to a tripod and press a button, what really makes the difference is the perspective of the artist.
every lens has its sweet spot so if you stop down too much like F22 then that could have an affect on the quality of your pictures so this guy on the video aint entirely right.
why would you use Exposure Compensation..why not to switch to Manual Mode and change the settings your self..youll never learn your camera, by letting the camera do it for you.........remember your smarter than the camera
@StephenSebTaylor always M? that's when you have enough time and the MOOD to change the numbers. why don't you always use manual focusing? that's dumb.
@kmedina419 what???????? so you mean when you are outside, you meter by using the Sunny 16 rule, right? and you always focus manually right? of course there are times that i have to use the M like when i'm taking photos of the Moon or stars but if the camera gives what i need, i can focus more on the subject than technical corrections. and not all the people like to wait so i find the right exposure. i usually use S,A and if i need M modes. there's no wrong, just different.
@ashkibala1 when your oustide you meter with your eyes and change the settings and not let the camera do it for ya youll never learn whats going on. And when your in any modes on the camera besides Manuel your camera meters for the brighest light so then your subject is to dark. Use your eyes and brain your smarter than the camera. Never said anything about Manuel Focus just leave it on Auto Focus on. Just beacuse your in Manuel Mode doesnt me you have to Manuel Focus.
if you had a bit of brain u wudnt have said that and by coming here and insultung intelligent people just make u look stupid - so go back to the club u came from.
On crop-sensor / amateur cameras (for Canon: everything but 5D and 1D, for Nikon: everything but D700, D3*) don't shoot more than f/11, because smaller than that, you will loose sharpness for optical reasons.
The only times I close to f/22 is when using a ND filter, otherwise never do it.
I usually go for f/8-11 in landscapes and that's just fine.
Hyperfocal is another thing to learn. It will give the max depth of field. The difference between f8 and f16 won't (this is only a 2 stops difference)
@mathieuemi666 you seem to make some very sweeping statements such as FX = pro, some pros think FX is amateur for landscapes and will only use medium format or plate cameras there are not any really hard and fast rules, thats what makes photography creative. You can use what ever stop you like it will depend upon the lenses latitude as to where the sweet spot is and when of if you get image sharpness loss show me a 80mm Plannar 2.8 that falls down at any stop
@tscholent my first lens didn't had a autofocus because it was full manually lens after few days i was focusing like a machine and had the feeling about all camera settings.
now i have a 50mm 1.4 and is fucking hard to get the focuspoint at point i will with autofocus on :(
Here is another trick for sharpness: Speed is inversely proportional to focal length. For 50mm, don't shoot slower than 1/50s (which would be multiplied by 1.5 (Nikon), 1.6 (Canon))
For landscapes. 1. sturdy tripod 2. remote control / 2s timer 3. focus on Live View, 10x zoom 4. Shoot RAW 5. Switch Canon IS / Nikon VR off (even if it says it can detect the tripod, for peace of mind)
(of course, the speed/focal length rule doesn't matter on tripod)
He tells you to increase the f/ stops, the major issue is that in most lenses, if you go over f/16 you will loose IQ! Nice vid though, and amazing lanscape.
@bobleeuk Wide angle can be dangerous. It is worth it to switch lens (say a small telephoto) and get a smaller part of the landscape otherwise you'll end up with only ultra-wide-angle shots that all look the same.
I agree. but Raw is mostly for Wedding or Model Photo-shoots. In nature photography professionals always tends to use jpeg so the camera can automatically create more details in nature photos.
@junaid20i ??? Totally wrong! Professionals always shoot RAW. JPEG is ONE way of translating what the sensor captured. You'll automatically loose details, info, etc.
Changing white balance and exposure afterwards are sufficient reasons for me to shoot RAW. Even if files are 5x larger. (But you can record smaller RAW too).
"Automatically" in photography is what distinguishes pros from newbies...
Man I shoot all my landscapes in JPEG...RAW is for pansies...for those who like to correct in post processing. As for quality there is no real big difference in shooting JPEG VS shooting in RAW. RAW jsut takes up more room and slows things down.
I guess everybody here knows who the pansy is... yes, it is you. IF you just shoot in JPEG is perhaps cuz all what you shoot is for facebook... Don't worry; keep on the track; and by the way, there's shuch a huge difference between RAW and JPEG.
Please, do not show how smart you are... not in a massive media like this
@KEBokeh Several extra stops of dynamic range is a good start, 12 or 14 bit vs 8 bit for jpg.
Post processing is not the devil's invention. It's no different than the different processing methods used with film, or even shooting different types of film (Kodak Gold vs. Fuji Velvia, for example)
Calm down man...read carefully what I typed...."I don't care what THEY think"....I wasn't directing anything to you...jesus...just read carefully...shit!

@mathieuemi666
you always always always have to convert the RAW to something else if you want to print or publish on the net
if you shoot JPG, the camera does the conversion, if you shoot RAW, you do it on your computer.
You can use both strategies to get results you can sell, if you know what you are doing.
If not, Allah help you.
BTW, 'loose' means to set free or expel with force, among other things.
'Lose' (which is what you meant) is written with only one 'o'.
