Those ATM machines are installed by a third party company that supplies convenience stores who make a percentage on the transaction fee. You just rip off the individual franchisee. It makes business sense to have them since the store gets charged for the customer making a purchase with a card, hence most stores having a minimum dollar value before you can use a card in addition to the ATM machines they have installed.

Code? Tranax machine obviously, you can get a pdf format manual online just by looking and downloading, the suspect simply read the manual to enter the atms service mode to change the cash casette values. Not that hard if the idiot owner never changed the default passwords. LOL.

That good Samaritan should've walked away as she may have become a suspect. Secondly, the 'hacker' simply logged into the machine's software using a default password programmed into it and changed the settings, he didn't put it back afterwards though which was very foolish again. This was not a professional, but usual theft, that's why he actually got caught.

@ModTUT0rIals Someone doesn't know about ATM cash limits (you can usually only take $250 to $500 out at once depending on your bank's policies)... Or the fact that the machine checks the available balance before giving you money (if the guy had $500,000 in the bank he wouldn't be doing this in the first place)... or the fact that those machines don't hold 1M... Probably more like $50,000 at most.
