  • really good job with the pictures following the music. i love it!

  • the "sun or the moon in the sky" aren't hindered by ridiculous national laws.

  • lolamericanization

  • Yes, the video is totally off, but if you don't like it than do your own video. This is what it means to salad911 and he's entitled to his interpretation.

  • I CAN"T BELIEVE I JUST SAW A TOYOTA PRIUS commercial......and this song was played!!!! LONG LIVE THE KINKS!!!!!!

  • @metfanal Even if the commercial is unsettling.

  • Just dig the song y'all. Personally don't care about flags and such!

  • i really , really love the song, and the kinks, but, uh ray was British,, so why sooo many american flags, not like u.s is free anyway,

  • Chill all, gawd, the song is a FUN song about "the shackles of the industry and and finds happiness in his original life". I am sure that salad911 put alot of time innocently putting this together but the vid is way off base. It certainly (and thankfully) not nearly as toxic as the clown who turned "Black Messiah" into a Barack Obama HATE song.

  • @MegaRussellC82 good observation

  • OMG this song is about the music industry ....not America...and I work for armed forces on a miiltary base...i hate this video...the kinks are way cooler and to those that keep mentioning America and how they recognized the kinks ...do your research...they were banned for years by the American Federation of Musicians from playing in the US...keep your music and politics separate Toby K.

  • aaaaaarrrrggghhhh - "oh u americans dont kno free ... or kinks :P"

  • Good job, Salad911! The America haters can get bent. btw, the Kinks were huge stars in America for years when nobody in the UK gave a damn. We're not perfect, but we still lead the way in Democracy and yes, FREEDOM, and have done so for many years. Thank America the next time you're using one of our inventions, like your car, an airplane, electric lights, a radio, or hello.. your computer.

  • @PATSWHAT4 RE: Inventions------You forgot wiretapping

  • errmm just one thing

the kinks r english - and just because this song is about freedom doesnt mean its about america - jesus christ not everything is about u guys u kno

  • @johnsawyer1 Oh I get...when minorities are involved in a Republican's cabinet they are either sell-outs, puppets, or uncle toms. Who's career was hurt? I'd be real surprised if Conaleeza or Colin do not run for office some time in the future. Personally, I could care less about Condi, but I would definitely vote for Powell. Some Republicans may certainly be racist, but the Democrats certainly do not hide it all - David Duke, Jessie Helms, Strom Thurmond, Hugo Black, Sen Byrd...

  • @johnsawyer1 and......? I'm not considered a minority.... and I could care about any of those organizations- add illuminati and Free Masons to that list.

  • @johnsawyer1 Oh umm gee let's see...for starters the Replican party started with the emancipation proclamation. Truman intergrated the military (unlike FDR). Senator Everett McKinley Dirksen was the force that allowed the Civil Rights Bill of 1964 (Kennedy actually turned it down in '57 when he was a Senator). G.W.Bush (despite my views on him) had the most diverse government cabinet in U.S. history.

  • one of the most beautiful songs in the world...fantastic lyrics...we all gotta be free...i truly believe that...what an anthem for the world today...

  • GREAT song, terrible video. In my opinion, America has very little to do with the theme of the song, freedom. When I see the American flag I think of our government. much love for REAL people everywhere

  • the kinks are very very british.

ray even sung mainly with his london accent.

  • "They'll try and make me study elocution, because they say my accent isn't right. They can clear the slums as part of their solution, but they're never going to kill my cockney pride."

  • Muswell Hillbily!...Great tune!

  • the kinks constantly drew parallels between their rural english life and backwoods america

  • America, FUCK YEA

    *blows up the world*

  • ditto to the last comment, hahaha, do some research. i think this tune has more to do with individualism than flag waving. or boating, which seems to be a major theme here. :)

  • The Kinks are English and fuck all to do with the USA.

  • just because the flag is in the video it doesn't make it propaganda

  • hey, I am a liberal from San Francisco and I like the interpretations salad911 put on this song...what should he put on, lawyers, legal papers and writs?

  • Lawyers, Legal Papers, and Write?

    OH MY!

Did you really have to mention that you were a liberal from San Francisco?

That's like stating you're a hillbilly from Kentucky.

    Stereotypical? Yes. Surprising? No.

  • i think if people were less sheep-like enough to realize that san francisco is the worst run city in the us and all that liberal crap is a HUGE waste of money providing little or NO results, there would be less people making "well you know that's what they do is SF, you know they think different...." comments

  • I dunno....I find politics very amusing.

The Republicans have done more for Civil Rights and Affirmative Action than the Democrats (good luck getting the Dem voters to belive that).

The Democrats have done more to cut taxes and cut gov't spending than the Republicans (good luck telling the Repub voters that).

It's like what Simon and Garfunkel said:

"Laugh about it, Smile about it when you have to choose. Anyway you look at it you lose."

  • i thought this song was about lawsuits, not nationalism. this is a travesty!

  • This song is about Ray's lawsuit with Allen Klein. Klein owned the rights to Ray songs. So fuck off with all your political ranting and theorizing about about banks and God knows what else.

  • Free as a bird

  • I love this song, but what troubles me about the video is that it looks like a propaganda film for the U.S. Government.

Nobody in America is truly free when you think about it. Not when the system of "Usury" rules supreme here. Why do you think Banks are getting bailed out and not the people? Banks need to have the money to be able to lend you the money and keep you enslaved in paying them back. Is that really being free?

I'm sure you had good intentions with your video.

  • very very cool video...thanks for posting this. this was always one one of of my favorite Kinks songs. it said so much in such a short time...try to disregard some of the other comments that have been posted. they are probably too young to understand...and the eagle with the flag on his face is reaaly cool too....GOD SAVE THE KINKS.

  • 5*****

  • Literal interpretations suck.

  • @CabalD Most people don't understand-----Ray has depth, you have to look beyond the obvious. He is comparing himself to bugs for God's sake.

  • i felt like this was made by the government.

Whats with the flashing flag, it was like subliminal advertising to my eyes, this is a shame to the kinks.

  • Whats with the nationalistic patriot pictures? Thats defeats the purpose I think of what this song is really about. But whatever, great song. Liked the pic from the movie About Schmidt.

  • Living In Canada where the stalinist thought police are clamping down on us more than one Canadian has thought of moving south that hits home.

  • Fuck how I HATED that you choose to flash that piece of cloth in your video as an illustration of "FREE". -aslong as ideas and allusions like that pop to your mind triggered by the word FREE you´ll excactly never be able to be that. HAIL OH HAIL !!

  • Awesome. my favorite Kinks album. Last time I saw Ray solo, he did Long way from home. This time Tomorrow and Get Back In the Line would be amazing in person.

  • oh america sweet land of liberty

    idiotism

  • Thanks for putting up this great song from a great album. Listen to Dave sing harmonies; for me, this was really the last great Kinks album, but what a run they had. After this, the RCA and Arista years were spotty..

  • Oh the irony!!!!

  • Really awesome, although I wouldn't have put that guy on the boat on ther 5 times like you did. Gets redundant

  • Pretty nicely done. Captures the lyrics and the feeling well. I am guessing you are from the USA as you use the American flag when they sing about 'gotta be free' and the Kinks are from the UK.

  • I am from the USA but I should have thought have maybe putting other countries flags on the video and thanks

  • @salad911 EXCUSE ME, but please buy a clue. Call me nutso but I really doubt that Ray and the boys would do a song about American freedom after the good ol' USA BANNED them from playing in the US for nearly four years.
