  • @pottercesamen where or how?

  • This is so beautiful. The singer has a wonderful voice, clear haunting and full of longing.

  • where/how do you learn elvish? i know how to write in the tengwar but i don't know how to speak it...

  • @lotrfan387 There's an excellent app for the iPhone on the iTunes app store called "Elvenspeak". This song is written in Quenya, which is a more developed language to Sindarin and in my opinion, far more fascinating. I learnt almost the entire language which on holiday in Portugal, and was probably the most productive week of my life :P

  • @DraumurionLawnmower thanks :)

  • @lotrfan387 thats strange, you can write words you dont know the meaning to? Or do you know their meanings but are unable to pronounce them? If you cannot pronounce words in Tengwar, id suggest gettting either a copy of the silmarillion, that should have pronounciations for different letter groupings. Im also pretty sure there is a book of the tolkenite languages, which have phrases, meanings, and phonetics.

  • @TheSisco44 you can write in english using the tengwar characters

  • @pottercesamen please tell me how and where?!? :O

  • I'm learning Quenya. :D

TRANSLATION: I love (the) female Elf's beautiful song. ;D

  • Hannon le <3

  • @pottercesamen please let me tell what means Elvish, is it the language of the elves?

  • @dejanrak yes

  • please let me tell what language it is and what means namarie?

  • @dejanrak I believe this is Galadriel's song to Elbaereth... a song of reverance and a finaly goodbye to the lands of Middle-Earth forever. "Namarie" means "Farewell"

  • @dejanrak namarie means farewell

  • @dejanrak It I believe is Quenya - Narmarie means farewell

  • Such a beautiful melody! Such a very beautiful voice : )

  • At last - a decent musical setting of this poem! May stars shine upon your path, Aijin!

  • Hauntingly beautiful

  • @pottercesamen Excuse me, but where do you do that? Do you do it over the internet or something?

I'll patiently wait for a response.

  • @Doffz0r If you Google search 'Ardalambion' and click the first link you can find a course in Quenya, the version of Elvish in this piece. Also, the CouncilOfElrond website has a workbook in Quenya and one in Sindarin.

    Nai cuilelya nauva mára!

  • @estelio16 Thank you! As I get it, those are two different elven languages. Which should I choose? What did you choose?

    Thanks, Kristoffer.

  • @Doffz0r Quenya is often called 'High-Elvish'. It is spoken by the elves of Lothlorien. It is closer to the language of the Elves in Valinor than its sister, Sindarin. Sindarin is the more conversational language, used by those in the Grey Havens and in Imaldris. (A variant of Sindarin is used by the Elves of Mirkwood.)

In the 'real' world, Tolkien put more effort into Quenya than into Sindarin. There is more published material in Quenya, and it's easier to study. That is the one I chose.

  • @estelio16 How long have you studied it? Are you able to make a conversation with it now?

  • @Doffz0r I've studied off and on for about two years now. Given that I haven't studied in any depth for at least three month, I probably couldn't do much in conversation. I plan to restart my studies as soon as my schedule allows.

  • @estelio16 no it is certaily not spoken by the elves of lothlorien. the elves or lothlorien except for thier queen are silvan elves. and they speak thier own silvan dialect of sindarin.

  • lase so a ma loge something mai blah blah blah blah blah

  • Quenya. )

  • From the deep of my heart, thanks and congratulations. You are the best.

  • yes this is very good :D

  • Best version i think.

  • Very nice.

You should finnish a listen too. Elvish seems connected to that language soundwise somehow.

  • @umbalaba Yeah tolkien was influenced by finnish for sure, also welsh, and of course old english.

  • It does. Tolkien's stories actually aroused from his languages. They were of philological interest. Quenya, his most complete language is a perfect blend of Finnish/Estonian, Old Norse, Old English and some other influences from other Germanic and Latin languages, like Italian when it comes to rhythm.

Phonologically it resembles Finnish greatly, and grammatically Old Norse more. The noun "-r" ending is present.

It's honey to the ears Quenya :x

  • What more to say than previous comments said...just wonderous!

  • I really like her voice, it's so calming.. Feels like I could peacefully fall asleep while listening this.. Beautiful. :)
