  • Beautiful craftsmanship! I'm curious, what is the purpose of the three holes at the knife butt? I've seen this on other knives. I would assume they are for attaching a lanyard, but they appear to be too small for that, and it would only require one hole. I hope that is not a dumb question. Anyway, I really enjoyed watching the entire process. Thanks for posting this.

  • @dvolsky914

The larger of the holes will hold a lanyard...the others not so much. To small. But they are mostly for decorative effect. Just something different I guess.

    Thanks for watching.

  • @RDPproject Well, your knife actually looks better than the Woodlore, IMHO.

  • HOW DO U ATTACH THE WOOD TO THE KNIFE?

  • @SHESABUTE

I can tell by your comment that you didnt watch the whole series.

    They are glued.

  • Stunning knife. Well done on both that and the videos.

  • @daddymarkram

    Tak for at se videoerne.

  • Beautiful knife, and an excellent series of videos showing how you work. I really enjoyed it!

  • @Syncubus

Thank you mate. Glad you enjoyed it.

    Rob

  • If you use the file in one direction then not only will it wear less but you will have less problems with the high spots when filing over the brass. On the return stroke the file will tend to glide, slide off the brass but still remove wood. I'm hoping to make a knife like this myself, such a fan of Ray but like to make things.

  • @littlestworkshop

Yeah...my skills still need a ton of improvement. Im still learning and trying to get it

all right. That will come with time.

    Thanks for watching.

  • @RDPproject You did an awesome job anyway, just trying to be helpful. I have to say I always struggled with files until I had to buy my own, then realised all of my Dad's were ready for the scrap yard!

  • @littlestworkshop

Woahh....Scrap yard! How old are your dads files?

  • @RDPproject Older than him I suspect but so blunt you could ride "bare arsed to London" on them. But of course rather than scrap them they could be made in to knives!

  • @littlestworkshop

    ahh...You know that trick....buggar!...

I was gonna say...mail them to me. I'll look after them.....lol

    :-)

  • where do you get those brass knife guards at?

  • @Blizzhobbs

I made it. Its in one of the earlier parts.

Go and watch - Knifemaking. My Ray Mears & Alan Wood Woodlore Clone Bushcraft Knife. PART 3

  • Fantastic Video series! I am new to knife making: Couple of questions: 1. How do you blend the bolster with the handle to eliminate a ridge between the bolster and handle? Same question for the brass pins and the handle and the spine and the handle 2. I have a similar belt sander, do you notice a vibration (or bounce) between the work piece and the platen? If so any suggestions as to how to reduce the vibration? I believe it is caused by the splice in the belt...

  • Oops, that was supposed to be a search. You video inspired me to look for others..

  • @dmgm1970

    Cool.....Thx for watching mate.

  • Wooden scales knife making

  • No problem. I'm about to start my first knife, really appreciate all the great info in your vids. I'll stay tuned in!

  • @resdog812

    Thx dog...I appriciate it mate.

You a fan of the move "Reservoir Dogs" by chance?

  • @RDPproject yea, couldnt think of a user name. i gotta reservoir dogs poster on the wall so i just went with it!

  • Awesome knife! Great work

  • @resdog812

    Thanks mate.

    And thanks for the subscription.

  • Insulting noise?! I dig the mellow vibe... Nice knife and a nice vid. Thanks for posting!

  • @BravoAlphaLimaJR

It doesnt matter what I do...there is always someone...who complains and is not happy with something in my videos.

    Thanks for commenting Jr

  • Nice knife work, but the noise is insulting

  • I just ment you did a good job :)

  • @ryanrrx

    oooohh....THAT killed it...lol

    Thx mate.

  • In the end you killed it! Great job! And I'm sure it's about 20% of the cost of some ray mears production lol great job

  • @ryanrrx

    Killed it!...how?

  • that music was driving me nuts dude, pretty neat knife though.

i wouldnt be arsed putting bolsters on mine though.too much bother and bit pointless on a bushcraft knife, but thats just my own opinion. might try the bees wax instead of linseed oil too- probably quicker to seal the wood too.

  • Beautiful looking knife

  • i am imopressed. as stroke survivor i still get out in the woods alot. i have mini knives but not a fixed blade. gr8 v9id . how much would u charge to make me one send to me in canada? ty karen

  • That is one of the most beautiful knives I have ever seen , in my humble opinion it looks way better than the woodlore . Great video , even better knife . Thank you for sharing your lifes work . It was very uplifting and much needed , gifts come in all shapes . Semper FI!!

  • @8541LONGRANGE

    wow....thanks for the great comment.

I have had several people order the knife since the video was posted. But unfortunatly I havnt got a workshop anymore and probably wont for a while yet. So I had to turn them away. (I get the feeling you were a sniper in the corps) All the best to you mate. Rob.

  • @RDPproject Thats affirmative Sir , I did 15 and a half years in the USMC until an injury claimed my career .I still teach as a civilian contractor for the USMC , I enjoy it more than youll ever know . As far as the knife is concerned , it is pleasing to look at and I am sure it is equally impressive to hold and use ,I would be proud to own a masterpeice such as that . You are a very talented craftsman Sir and I enjoyed watching you make such a peice of usable art . SEMPER FI!!

Im hoping to get back into making knives again soon when I move into a house and can get a workshop

Nice. i just do it in my wods at home.

  • That's a beautiful knife mate. just got back from a ray mears bush craft course and we got given the official ray mears knife, just comparing it and it looks pretty similar. good job mate!!

  • @FelixRification

Thanks mate. Having only joined YT on the 1st of August....how did you find my video?

    Rob

  • @RDPproject

I was just looking how to forge knife blades and saw yours so i started comparing it. It's really good.

  • i like the point that you said about the handle fitting and filling your palm which makes it A LOT more comfortable

  • What a beauty

  • WTF is wrong with you? The music for this video is ASS

  • @justyoustupid

    lol...sorry dude.

    I just looked at your channel....then I realised...Doh! :-)

  • Hey Rob! I finally figured out your youtube name!

  • @justyoustupid

    Ummm...who are you?

I dont recognise your YT user name....

    PM me if you prefer...

  • beautiful music throughout, if i am to make a knife, would you say that a totally flat spine (probably a puukko, then) or a spine that slopes down into the point (like the woodlore knife) is better?

  • Fantastic video and end result. Well done!

  • i would never have the balls to put a flame to that lovely handle..

  • @iandegia

Oh well...as you see tho...it works great.

  • I loved your videos on the knife project... a beautiful Bushmaster indeed. Thank's for sharing :-) would love to see some really close up pics on it... I saw you had something stamped there on the blade... How many days did you spend on it?

You love it yourself and are jusing it on a daily basis or...

Hope to see more great videos like that from you. Keep up the good work! :-)

  • @bosse641

I worked on thie for several weeks. I had alot of breaks in between wor.king on it.

Also sending it away for heat treatment took a couple of weeks.

It was so long ago that I made this now I cant remember exactly how many hours I spent on it tho.

  • Very nice work. I too have taken up making my own knives, and my first start to finish knife was based on the woodlore. I enjoyed this series very much. I'll be subscribing to your channel. Take care.

    Rob.

  • You are one hell of a craftsman great attention to detail.

  • @gordogreen

    Thanks mate.

I try to film as much as possible so other may learn from it or

get different idears that they can do themselves.

    Rob

  • You are very talented that is a beauty of a knife

  • @enjoiorange

    Thanks mate.

  • @RDPproject do you have a website or profile on blade or knife forums in case i want to contact you for a custom knife

  • hi what was that you were heating on the wood for the shine?

also what do you use to protect the blade from any rust? besides the sheath

  • @poida84

I was melting Bees Wax so it can be obsorbed by the wood.

To protect the blade from rust...I simply keep the knife clean and dry.

this steel is 440C so it wont rust in any hurry. But even with carbon steel if you

keep it clean and dry when in use it helps greatly. Then befor putting it away in storage give it some oil. Just remember...Never to store knives *IN* their sheaths for long durations as leather can attract and trap moisture. Always store knives *OUT* of any sheaths.

  • @RDPproject thank you for quik reply thanks for the advice :)

  • @poida84

    No worries mate.

    Rob.

  • This video gave me a far more appreciation towards knives. I've always loved samurai katana's. But your vid is excellent. You have a gift my friend. That knife is beautiful. I admire your knowledge and skill

    Thank you mate.

    Rob.

  • thats some excellent work. Looks like it will serve you well for many years.

  • @slab698

    I hope so...Thank you.

    Rob.

  • would be a good video if the music did not distract so much

  • @jameasun

All you need to do is mute the sound. No matter what music I put to videos...

    It will never please everybody.

  • Hey man this was the best and most detailed knife making video i have ever seen.

You did not only show the progres of the knife but also how you made it.

Great Great video man and very beautiful knife.

Have a good day from all of us here in Sweden :)

  • @akerlund92

    thank you my friend.

    Im glad you like it.

    Tack så mycket min vän.

Jag är glad att du gillar det.

  • This is one of the best knives I've ever seen! I enjoyed watching it been made. I would like you stayed with x-cut scales, so I could learn something about that that, but ok, I will experiment (and share of course). Thanks for posting these videos, they were really helpful, nice and well made (you can easily edit movies ;))

    Thank you.

    Rob.

  • @RDPproject i live in Nyborg, the eastern most city on Fyn where the bridge connect with sealand.

  • Great locking knife just love it. Got to make one myself here in sweden made a few when I lived in the states but gave them to friends so I have to find a place were i can make some new ones. I think i will film that 2 and put it on my channel.

  • @ungnaturkraft

Cool....I look forward to seeing that Adrian.

    Rob.

  • That is an awesome life you have, and just a survey, do you like America? I'm planning that when I get out of college i will move to Britain or sweden. You rock. good day

  • @DuckBoy266

    "Do you like America?"

Sorry Britt....but you need to be a bit more specific please..

That question covers a whole variety of things.

    Rob.

  • @RDPproject okey, so do u have any thing against us. by the way, i am definitly not like most americans

  • @DuckBoy266

LOL...no problem mate. It was just that the question was very open....

I could have come back with so many answers. I like america and most americans that I

    have met over the years.

  • Do you live in Australian, Britain or America? Not to be a creeper, but just curios. Your work amazed me all the way from the beginning. Good day to you. Cheers.

  • @DuckBoy266

Born in Britain, live in Australia and have been the usa for holidays....

  • Do you live in Australian, Britain or America?

  • you know your good. beautiful knife mate

  • @20tom09gt

Thanks Tom...but im just a novice and have a

long way to go yet mate.

  • This is the first video of yours that I watched. Have only 1 word to describe it: WOW!

I am very impressed & happy for you. I can just feel the pride & joy oozing out from this vid. It is also a beautiful knife in my eyes, but what makes it so special & respectable is that you made it yourself!!! 5K stars bro!!!

  • @knivesfishwild

I just finished 3 videos showing the Bushmaster sheath that I made

for the knife. I hope you enjoy watching them aswell.

    Rob

  • I should also mention that this video series kinda reminds me of "Alone in the Wilderness" documentory where Dick Proenneke builds a cabin in Alaska from scratch. Both vids show excellent craftsmanship. Rob, if you have not seen this yet, check it out. I think you would really appreaciate it.

  • @MrB0TT

Thanks Mr B. I know it well mate.

I saw it for the first time about 2 yrs ago. Very good doco that was.

    Rob.

  • That thing should be in a museum. Well done!!!

  • @MrB0TT

aaww....but that would be such a waste.....cos it would never be used in a museum....lol

    Thx mate.

  • Its a tool. But this one is also fine art. It must feel amazing to hold something so fine you crafted yourself. I enjoyed being a spectator.

  • @EconoChallenge

    Thx mate.

I enjoyed bringing you along for the journey.

    Rob.

  • love the knife rob, very well done, you must have been anxious to get it back from heat treating.

  • @TheLewisotto

Oh you bet I was mate.....lol

    Thx Lewis.

  • I waited a long time when you have finished your knife.

And then I waited not just beautiful, but unforgettable *****, this knife is very beautiful!!! Friend thank you by the way have inspired me to make a knife (Helle harding) I bought a blade, I'll try.

    Tim

  • @suvarak

That is good to hear Timur. i look forward to seeing how it turns out.

I will send you a video of how Ray Mears made a knife handle. Maybe it will help you a bit. It is easy if you do it the same as him.

    Rob.

  • very nice Rob! i like the way you finished the end of the handle!

    beautiful!!

  • @captjeff78

Thanks Jeff. Means alot coming from you buddy.

    God bless.

  • That is truly a work of art, I have looked forward to every update of this knife, and the final product looks amazing. Great job.

  • @dbyeayea

    Thank you mate.

  • Not bad I spose. Just kidding, a stunner of a knife. another case of getting out what you put in. Cheers

  • @phrayzar

    Thx mate....lol.

It feels good when you finally complete something thats been

in the making for a while.

  • @softairguy65

Thank you Darian. I enjoy making them.

  • Brilliant!

  • @switchest26

    Thank you MJ

  • stunning work ;0)

  • @jkd185

    Thanks mate....I like it.

  • very nice! you have some talent! i love the fact that your making the handle by hand.

  • @Killahofosho

It takes longer but if you slip when on the

sanding belt...you can so easily screw it up.
