@AmericanMuscleV8 - When I bought mine the original owner went 90K miles on the original plugs. I swapped them out for the fancy double-tipped platinum things and my mileage actually went down about 2mpg.
"i gained 42hp by putting drag radials on...then another 57 with injectors then 23 with fuel pump....then i woke up and realized i was a fucking dumbass"
Saw someone say this on a forum and thought it was super funny!
@vegaboy76 That quote right? I know i just thought iwas funny lol i was lookin up some things about flowmasters since thats what i have and i saw someone say dual flows gave someone 27 horse! And that is what someone had to say about it lol! How much did them magnaflows run you? and did you get a high flow cat as well? when you get time check my vids man!
@immposter No its just regular gloss black. i used rustoleum protective enamel paint not wheel paint. Just get something that is heat and chip resistant or actual wheel coating. Also makes sure you clean the rim really well, then sand them with 400 grit sand paper then clean them again before painting.
@aaminjoshi91 Well it looks awesome I am putting my truck completly black tail lights, truck, rims, windows, except I might put a magnum stripe across the rearend like the factory ones in silver along with the words Dakota. And now possibly a glass pack!!
@immposter That'll look sick man! and yeah glasspacks get loud if i were you i would get an 18 inch glasspack. don't go 12 inch or it'll be damn near straight pipe loud! Unless you want it that loud lol! Good luck man!
Dude I am so getting that muffler for my Dakota it sounds awesome, do you have anymore vids of your truck. I have a 2000 quad cab with the SOHC 4.7 litre like yours.
the rearends are different depending on the transmission you have & if its a v-8 or not. My 2002 r/t with the 5.9 & 727 tourque flight gets yes around 10 city & 14-15 highway. I also have 3.92 rear diff, the 3.55 that comes with most the 4.7's should get a bit better gas than my truck.
@HEFNERLCC My old man averages 20-22 in the city and 26-27 on the highway so where ever your getting this info it is false, well actually that might be the other gear ratio offered. His truck has the ratio for better acceleration. So what ever you do just get the right ratio.
@vegaboy76 it all depends for pretty much everything, what size Wheels, if its the v8 or v6, the ratio/compression. it gets really complicated. i have a Dakota 2wd lifted with 35 inch tiers and with and exaust but it probly gets 8mpg city at best, keep in mind i am a guy and push the pedal, but if its for street 20mpg is about adverage.
@vegaboy76 ok i have the same concern at this dude i want a 4.7 and decent mpg... what would be a good rear end 4 gas mileage?? and im already kinda leary about it cuz i had a 3.9 v6 and only got bout 15 :/ grant it i had 173,000 but still
@HEFNERLCC I get anywhere from 15 to 22 it all depends on how you drive. I have the 4.7 v8 quad cab. I even have 3:55 gearing with possie, nice truck. "4x4" A tank of fuel last me a week I am always on the highway.
I had a 2000 4X4 with the 4.7L and 3.55 gears in it with the tow package automatic and all of the goodies. I averaged about 14-16 for mixed daily driving. Before E-10 fuel it would get 22 pretty consistently running 60-65 highway, after it would get 17-18. Around town was only about 13-14, but the 3.92 gears did better around town. Towing was it's downfall though as even a small trailer would just about drop it in half with the 3.55 gears. Wish it would have had 3.92 gears.
@HEFNERLCC i have a 2002 dodge dakota sport with the 4.7 v8 and its 4wd and i avereage like 17-20 city and 10-14 if im racing it alot. if your getting 8 city then you got some issues you your truck my friend my dads ram with a hemi doesnt even get that
hello i was also wondering if your truck just has the muffler on it or does it have the whole system like they sell on ebay also are you running the stock cat ?
Is all you did to it was just change the muffler cause? if so DAMN that sounds badass..I was wondering cuz then i was just gona do it 2 my truck too...thanks
I've heard good and bad, with this one it now has about 75.000 miles on it and its a 2000, we have had one thing go wrong with it and that was a coil over plug go bad, transmission still shifts like new. as far as the newer ones go i believe they are just fine. you are prob just hearing rumors from the dodge early years. I would go for it if it were me though but that is my opinion
it does matter who you talk to about any truck someone will always have bad things to say about them. My Dad had a 1990 dodge with 600k on it when he sold it, still original eng n trans, it all depends on how u take care of your truck.
alright thanks, cause i called a local muffler shop yesterday and they said they could order me one for 180, and i was like that sounds a little expensive haha
I guess all i can tell you is that the muffler was bought off ebay and it was considered a Magnaflow Series 70 muffler from which im told from a few people cant be found anymore but im sure there is one out there somewhere,it cost aroun 80 bucks i think and the rest of the exhaust is bone stock, i do have a resonated tip that i put on there to really bring out the sound sometimes but thats about it. Im gonna try soon to get a better quality video up,this cam doesnt catch it at all well.
well the 5.9 has alot more torque but i think overall the 4.7 is better, mainly cuz its more technologically advanced. it is faster and higher revving, i think hyper is a good word.
This video helped me talk myself into driving to summit and slapping a magnaflow 3in on my dakota. this is actually the video on magnaflow's website for the dakota cat-back. i go a 5-speed so it sounds a little differnt but nice none-the-less.
did you listen to your truck without a muffler in the process of swapping exhausts? my dakota with the 4.7 sounded bad ass. but the local cops woulden't like it. haha.
I have told myself the only way i will trade in my current Dakota is if i find an R/T dakota for sale. the only thing i dont like about the R/Ts is they didn't make any with manual transmissions and a manual tranny makes a vehicle a true hotrod. but the 360ci under the hood makes up the difference.
5.9s are over rated. Why do you think you need a 5.9? Do you have plans to stroke and bore to a 6.7? that is such an over rated route to run with that engine. No offence but get on the dakota forums and read how guys are dissapointed that a 6.7 with blower or turbo is still havin issues reachin 10's in the 1/4 mile. Your best bet is to keep your truck and do a 5.7 hemi or 6.1 hemi swap dont waste your time and money on cave man technology. IMO...
if i ever do an engine swap on my truck. im going diesel or a 5.9L. because why buy a hemi crate and put it in a dakota. when i could go down to the dodge dealership and trade my dakota in and put a down payment on an R/T challanger or something of that nature. no...the 5.9L is a very reliable engine and has good torque output. and is still a big engine for a compact truck. and no, i woulden't bore it out. i would probably leave it stock. maybe have the heads done and headers.
maybe i came off wrong dodge motors as the 4.7 5.2 5.9 are very reliable and torqe yada yada. But your not gunna see high horse power with ease like a 4.6. Im sorry if i came off wrong but dakota motors are not high out put engines thats all i was saying.
most of their problems are with traction and finding a good tune. The 360/408 are capable of 600 horsepower with the stock block. Anything more and you will have to have the block strengthened or find an R3 block. Just because the 4.7 uses a DOHC design doesnt mean its advanced in any way. Anyone who builds big power engines will tell you, theres no replacement for displacement, and thats a fact.
SOHC not DOHC. The point im trying to make is this, you can spend money on a 5.2, 5.9, 4.7. But it is never gunna beat a 4.6 32 valve cobra or mach one motor charger or not. All I would like to see is motor swaps in dakotas to get more power tires of seeing a 10k dollar build list just to get 600 hp. Just my opinion.
technically the 4.7 should be easier to me. You gotta figure the 5.2 has been around a long time and is caveman technology and not a high output engine. You can turbo and supercharge both but after you drop cash into the motors youl ask yourself would it have been easier to do a engine swap.... turbo kit 6k easy... crate motor is about that price. hope this helped a little.
the 318(5.2L) was in dakotas before the 287(4.7L). i got a 4.7L. but in the aftermarket world. the 318 has more potential as the 318 block has powered MOPARS since the good old days. i have a 318 also but its in a 79 power wagon.
Love the sound of your Dakota man. I was thinking about modding mine too. My dad has a Ram 1500 with a 4.7 liter engine and he got (for the most part) the same mod you did. Even he says that the sound this muffler set makes fits the truck better. I have to scrounge up some cash and make my truck sound this sweet.
Yo!! i got a 97 Dakota none sport with a 4.0 v6 i got a flow tech muffler and it ain't bad at all only cost around 22$ for the muffler and 5 buck to have a pipe made for it and tips blow so it would fit all in all 35.77 total cost
your truck sounds mad nice man. my bro has a 2002 r/t, but his has more of a muscle car sound but it is mad loud. he has about 405 hp and you can hear him from like a mile away. its not street legal but popo doesnt really care lol.
yea i looked under mine. and she has 3 fuckin cats. never seen any shit like that in my life, i went to advance and got me a $25 glasspack and two muffler clamps replaced the big ass stock muffler with it. sounds pretty good and is affordable as hell. i can post a vid of it if anybody cares to hear it, if anybody is thinkin of doing that, i think mine was well worth it and it sounds mean.
sounds good there. i just put a glass pack my 4.7 and it made a big diffrence and sounds mean as a bitch. tommorow imma take a water hose and blow it out so it will sound better.
