While she was campaigning for Ramos, then President Aquino defended his past records as PC Chief and as one of the architects of Martial Law by saying that "He has made reparations for that" and "Siya po ang nagtanggol sa ating demokrasya." By bringing in stability to our country, our economy definitely picked up during his term 1993-1998, although it slowed down during the 1997 Asian Financial Crisis. Unfortunately, he was succeeded by Estrada, who ran the country badly for two years.

I still believe that Ramos cheated Miriam in the 1992 elections. Even at the end of his term, he did not have much charisma. Nevertheless, it proved to be good that we had Ramos from 1993-1998, because he solved the power crisis and ran our economy well (although one can argue that it was the Aquino administration's auster financial policies from 1986-1992 that eventually paved the way for an easily manageable economy for the succeeding administration).

I think you got the point just right. The Philippines need good, and loyal citizens to make the country strong. Filipinos are sometimes very self-righteous and opinionated and they think they can solve the country's problem within a year. Mr. Ramos seems smart by addressing the need of global competition. I agree with his views, the problem is in the are of "leadership" -- with no one who epitomizes the essence of what a leader/savior is.

However, I hope he talked about the effects of religion on economic progress.

Leave God out of it precludes my theory of governance. In simple terms "seperation of church and state" is what I advocate. I expressed my dissapointment that the above speaker failed to mention this aspect.
