Deve, first of all I want to thank you for the insparation. What a great fly tyier you are! My question is what is that hackle you used? I know you mentioned Whiting, but what is it exactly rooster or hen, cape or saddle? Thank you!
I'm glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for the kind words..I used bird fur which comes from Whiting hackles they were specialy bred to get these spey like fibres..I'll send you a link to them..
Hey Dave! Thanks for all the videos, I enjoy them and learn tons of great tips, I was wondering what type of vice is that your using for this video? Cheers!!
A beautiful bit of tying...but isn't this actually a spider, rather than a spey fly? Unless I am wrong (and I could very well be), spey flies have the hackle wound through at least 1/2 of the body, whereas spiders feature a hackle wrapped as a collar up near the head of the fly?
When I tye the spider spey then it would be a pattern much like the one above but without the bronze mallard wing, even if the hackle is tyed from halfway or at the front of the body, but I won't say I'm right or you're wrong..
really enjoying the videos was wondering if you have anything for pike flies tied with polar fiber and what hook you would use. was trying to tie on ad swier 1/0 hooks.
I have tyed Pike flies with polar fibre but I have none left but I'm up at the Glasgow Angling Centre on the 6th December so I'll buy some and put something together for you..
im into tying big salmon flies at the minute davie, but how big could you take this fly and still be able to catch fish on it have you ever went bigger, happy wrappings, davy.
I've tyed this style of fly two sizes bigger as well down to a size12. They've caught in many countries so I would tye them in sizes to suit the waters you fish, as I'm sure they will work..
