  • well i used this and got carried away and lasted a whole hour

  • most 10 mins to 15 mins, and half mins having a clear taught thinking about nothing.

  • I love the yogic forms of meditation. I've always been into the tranquil styles. A really easy "mind stiller" is to mentally say OMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM while exhaling through your nose. It's pure bliss. Great vid. Subscribed.

  • I found this really helpful. I'm sure people who are more experienced with meditation would say there is more to it than just focusing in your breath, but I am just starting out Before this video I wasn't sure exactly what I should be doing so I didn't attempt meditation. Now I know that I can just focus on my breath (at least to begin with) so now I have a starting point and am actually able to practice meditation rather than sit wondering what I am supposed to be thinking about! Thanks Tara

  • Meditation is not "just conscious breathing". what are you talking about.? Plesae don't mislead the already excessively mislead american public. Meditation takes you way beyond this breathing thing we do. Honestly, as a long time spiritual yoga teacher, you seem very attention seeking. whats with all the finger pointing. sorry sister...but its YOU making yoga seem weird. the swamis seem normal in comparison. Get a job doing stand up.

  • @ErinnE3 She's correct, meditation can be done anywhere, and during any activity. Meditation can be done while cleaning the bathroom, or leading a football team to a touchdown. Although you are correct to say it takes you way beyond breathing, it is as simple as paying attention to your breathing.

Your comment didn't seem very spiritual, or enlightning to me. Meditate on that.

  • @springsteel333 Im talking about the kind where you actually leave your physical ego/intentions in a quiet comfortable place and do some astral travel and/or deep peace oneness. i do believe that every act of life can be done yogic-ally, but there is a difference between scoring a touchdown and sitting with nothing but your soul. Maybe my comment didn't help you bc you are scared to sit and meditation. ss333, how much time do you sit in sacred space each day as a yogi?

  • @ErinnE3 Why is it scary to sit in meditation? because you have a good point, I won't deny that.

Meditation is intimidating, or rather what's inside is intimidating. I believe people are trying to make is less so. People like Rodney Yee. Wouldn't you agree with that?

  • @springsteel333 I follow nothing Rodney Yee does. I don't resonate with him & find him to mechanical and yuppy-esque. As for whats inside being intimidating..the ego will attempt to convince us that we shouldn't go inside, that it's weird and scary in there. But whats inside is the real You. The eternal One. Everything. Goddess Consciousness...Sometimes the process of moving into deep states of release can be challenging, but worth it. Instead of Yee, maybe try Sivananda for real instruction.

  • @ErinnE3 Deep states of release as you put it, are what I look for. Of course, like alot of people, I'm trained to look outside myself for that. The way you present your description is powerful. " Goddess Consciousness " as you used the term, is as inspirational as anything I've read.

Maybe I'm wrong, but instructors like Rodney Yee, and even this woman Tara Stiles, are the bridge to get to inspirational communicators of this art form, like you. If not for Yee, I wouldn't have read your words

  • Meditation is not just "conscious breathing". That's one method to meditate, but is only one.

  • haha you tried to distract me funny stuff it your attempt at distreacting me didnt work

  • Well, i did this and well my heart rate went up. I havnt the fondest idea why but it did. Should I worry?

  • I cant go for more that 5min :(

  • @flora257 thats what she said

  • see when i was in Dux-Ryu i was taught that meditation was to mentally block out your sourroundings to the point that all you feal is your own energey... got to where i can do it for about 20 min and wont anything bring me outta it until im ready....but of course being in afgan fightin camel jockeys dosnt help lol

  • im some what a beginner but my most is an hour.

  • Love this not so serious vid of meditation tips by you. Since I did some Zazen today, It makes sense I'd find this tonight. Brings to mind the other day when I was meditating in the park & a white, grey & black bunny hopped by being chased playfully by a small dog during my sitting. I think that has something to do with not allowing my thoughts to be chased by my mind. Sharing this vid with my facebook friends. Night.

  • yh your pretty hot tbh i think i got distracted lol yh i will try your tips xD

  • My main problem i think is that after a while my back hurts somewhat. Xd I guess i need to build my back muscles.

  • @iRewel wow really dude? you looked up this stuff to get excited? really mature man

  • @MickeyThrasher1 - If crying doesn't make you feel better, you could try telling your mommy on me.

  • @iRewel really you went that low to attempt to make me feel bad? oh and i dont have parents they died in a fire and no i never really cry but i do talk to a psychologist if i have some problems maybe you should try it some time sounds like you really need it

  • @MickeyThrasher1 - At least we don't have to worry about your parents shitting out any more retards.

  • @iRewel fuck you sir

  • @MickeyThrasher1 - Sorry, I'm not gay... go hit on someone else. If you like dudes, go dig up your dad and skull-fuck him.

  • can i do it in my bday suit?

  • meditation = "single point of focus"..... thats it...

    play piano, focus.

    Do any labor, focus...

    easy as that...

practise it well and you will become... euh.... good at it.

  • 5 minutes.

  • And now that i see you with the incense, can you recommend some good incense. I am from Spain, live n Utah and love incense and have just no clue which brands are good, I can;t stand incense that smells just like a burnt stick, and I love fresh types. Maybe if you know, if not its ok :D

  • Tara! :D thank you for sharing this videos, you crack me up, so cute. I love it and you just motivated me so much and I am going to follow you regularly. I love it cause the videos are kind of short and doing some everyday, even if its just that little must really help. Thank you. XO

  • Can I meditate just by staring at you? You are sooooo beautiful! :)

  • 4 minutes and it felt sooo good.

Thanks Tara, for inspiring me to re-ignite my meditative practise.

I used to meditate every morning, sitting on a park bench, after a run. That was two years ago and life has been full on.

It's time to integrate it back in. Consciousness is verrrry coooool.

    Thank you!

    Dan x

  • This is really hard for me. I have such the "monkey brain"; conciousness bopping around to everywhere except where I actually am. I need to disperse this energy through asana practice before any meaningful connection with the Divine which surrounds us can take place.

  • I meditate 3 times a day for 10 to 20 minutes at a time.

  • yeah i suppose thats the basics of meditating,

OMG lol my girlfriends cat was sleeping on top of the chair and totaly fell of at it was claswing the back of the hair to hold on and it was totaly scrambling back up HAHAH

Sorry i had to share that,

But yeah i love to meditate... i lasted 1 and 1/2 hours... was AWESOME !

  • I last about a minute. lol. I think I could have gone longer but I really really wanted to go through some more of your videos. lol. Well, I'm off to do that and hopefully loosen up my very very very tense neck muscles. By the way, do you have a video on that and if you don't would you consider making one? My necks and shoulder muscles are my worst enemies particularly when I am stressed or don't sleep well. Thanks. :D

  • And before meditating, remember to set your intention for this ... maybe to get the connection with your inner beeing or simply to quite your mind... and when you feel your body moves slightly without your intent, so you ve got it :)

  • ahh it was very nice :) 10 min lol

  • 6 hours

    om laxmi

    om laxmi

    om laxmi

  • what evers clever is the name of my next video because of this video.

  • You make me smile...thanks and god bless...

  • Sooooo...I wasn't supposed to meditate while eating soup?

Juuuust kidding. Definitely helped to chill me out.

  • I tried to set in that 'wrap you legs around with str8 back position' but i couldnt - so I just sat cross legged. Lasted about 3 mins (after having a laugh at the jokes in the vid). I did feel calmer after the session - however i couldnt supress the number of thoughts that race around at high speed. For some seconds I forgot to concentrate on the breathing . Nevertheless, I sense it would prob be a good idea to do this every day. Wld be interesting ,how to elimate the rush of thoughts

  • i lasted about 15 seconds of complete relaxation. it felt great but didn't last long. thanks anyways, ill keep trying.

  • hey tara, ive been a devoted yoga doer of your videos for about a year now, and this was really helpful. i get really stressed partially because i try to bite off more than i can chew most of the time.

i lasted 8 minutes doing the meditation. thanks again!!

  • you looks exactly like minnie driver!

  • Haha Tara!

It was funny because I was like engulfed

in meditation and you were like tomato soup! I cracked up so hard I fell out of my chair.hhaha I love your vids!!!!!

  • very cute, very helful video

  • hey, thnxs for the new "twist" on yoga /meditation methods. Love it andwill keep you posted on my progress. Oh yea, quit smoking and am trying to replace with breathing / yoga exercises - Hope this helps!!!

  • How do you keep from falling asleep?

If I tried meditating in a grocery line I would fall over.

I love the candle & soup, you have a great sense of humor :)

  • Ha Ha! What a friendly helper. Telling us to meditate and then slurping soup. That reminded me of when our teacher in high school was trying to get the class to kinda meditate before a term test.... then she let a really long and high pitched fart rip. Ya, we didn't stay focused for too much longer after that. Good times, good ol' smelly times.

  • ..tomato soup..

    hahaha

  • Don't you lose track of time ? . Do you need to be sitting up right or can you lie down ? . The experts of DTM all lie down . I would think sitting up takes some sort of balance. Last question is the use of a drug like mushrooms or paote(sp) .

  • tara, isn't there meditation (I don't know if they would be called meditations) where your sitting and relaxed like you were meditating but where your focusing on doing things, such as certain skill requiring sports where you practice in your mind and you feel as if your moving even though your not and when it comes to it in reality, your better at it.

  • Dude,

    This is called visulization!

  • Very convenient to be able to do it with any kind of clothes.

  • It also works with no Clothes!

  • Hi,

    You are um... very sexy.

    ;)

  • I like the way you come across. Youre funny. It has been a real find discovering your videos. My yoga is rubbish but Im enjoying trying it. As for meditation, when I do well I find it quite refreshing - although more often than not my mind wanders. I liked your suggestion of it simply being conscious breathing and the idea of just trying it whenever. Thanks. Go right ahead, and keep up the good work!

  • I lied down and popped on some noise-canceling headphones for 15 minutes I didn't fall asleep, but concentrated on my breathing and it was amazing.

  • You need to practice Magnum some more... come back in six months, please.

  • i think u shouldnt worry too much about the techniques, after all its just based on your own sensations. i love to go slacklining for example just on my own with no people around. i did this in the beginning because i didnt want anyone to see me, but after a while i recogniced a great meditation effect from that. you know... i dont call it meditaion and i dont sit with my legs crossed, but after all its the kind of the same thing. whatever u will find that works for you is fine!

  • hm, alright, that's helpful. but how do i get through the actual technical aspect of focusing on your breath and such if mine smells really bad most of the time??

  • i've tried this in the past sometimes with success. but majorit of time it doesn't work. It sometimes helps to use a new approach. but after a while the novelty always wears off a new approach. i guess my question is, how do I keep the novelty from wearing off a given technique?

  • bammer, stop worrying about it "working." :-)

keep it simple. let go of that whole mental expectations game where you feel obligated to "get" or attain something from this.

just count your breath cycles from 1 to 10, practice putting full awareness on your breathing. if you lose count or concentration, start count over. give yourself 5-10 minutes. just let it be simple.

  • ya, that's something you just have to work through. you don't get to trade bodies with someone because the novelty has worn off with yours. Take a look at the need for the new technique, like the need for new things, obsession with new clothes, new house, new hair cut, whatever it is. That's what meditation is for. Getting past the un-necessary desires and getting to the good stuff.

  • Try to just keep going back to your old technique. Try it every day for a week. Eventually you'll get past the need for something new

  • 4 minutes

  • Smart, funny, beautiful, elegant: this woman is one of those Very rare people you would want to get married to a minute after meeting them.

  • i can't meditate cuz i have really bad breath

  • If you smell buddha breath, kill it.

  • lol "acknowledge the thought"

    thats funny..

    thanks tara. good vid.

  • excellent. nice job tara

  • excellent. nice job tara

  • wow i'll try that sitting in the grocery line

  • thank-you so much! This is very helpful. I liked the part about acknowledging the random thoughts, but letting it go on its way. I was able to meditate for a few minutes uninterrupted(a record).. Thanks!

  • All it is is "conscious breathing"?

And I paid a yoga $15,000 over two years and he never got around to telling me that?

    Have I been robbed?

  • yeah. probably. :)$15,000! that's nuts!

  • nice tip. thanks

  • I have practiced contemplative prayer for about 10 years and growing into zazen for 3 years. I love the tip about being able to meditate anywhere and playing with the light. For a concentration build tor simplicity, it is easy to let clothes, mood lights and music get in the way.

  • I was wondering where Tara has been hiding. You're funny..Did not see secret monkey though! But after a long week, I am know very relaxed from my concious breathing.Thanx

  • I like the emphasis on actually using meditation in real places. If you need to be on a quiet mountain top to use it, it has no value. Conversely, learning to meditate while stuck in traffic can literally save someone's life LOL

  • Yep. I can attest to zazen dramatically helping in a major medical emergency where i needed to break the stress/anxiety cycle, catch my breath and calm the nerves.

Just walking around... you can practice being mindful of your breath, your body and thus take a clearer perspective on what's going on.

  • a lot of interesting tips people are leaving on meditation.

You can however do the catch and release technique. In which you breath in and out of course but you don't think of anything, and when you do start thinking you realize it and release the thought. repeat over and over, it works pretty well.

  • Breathing is the most basic things a living beeing does. Concentrating on it brings you close to your basic unwritten soul energie. Meditation alows to find out what is going on in your mind. Most people will not be able to concentrate on breathing for more then 10 sec. Solve the thought, calm the mind and come back to your basic middle.

This is a good, short video for basic meditation. Motivation of the individual is the continuation and the key!

Tara is open minded and great to learn from!

  • Oh Crap! I fell asleep! Now I'm late for work! Thanks Tara!... (joking). But seriously, more often than not, when I'm in my Den of Zen, ( meditating) I fall asleep. Like anything longer than 10 minutes, its prettymuch garunteed that I'll fall asleep.

  • Thanks Tara, I won't forget your tip: breath!

    :-)

    kisses

  • haha ! You are great !

  • Tara you're awesome...I love you.

  • Well done, as usual :-)

Folks may also want to try counting their breath from 1 to 10. Keep awareness (not thoughts) on your breathing, on your body. if you lose count, just start again. It's not a big deal.

I like the "let the thought go on its way" point. I like the analogy of bubbles in an ocean... where you just let the bubbles form and float around as they may. Sometimes the mind is boiling with bubbles and sometimes it's calm. Either way, just be the ocean. :-)

  • ps... my knees hurt.

  • @PoplicolaPhronesis What a great analogy!

  • how about some naked meditation next time ;-)

As far a meditation is concerned it is not about how long you can last in that certain state but how well you do it. So it's a matter of effectiveness. More that 10 minutes is definitely a waste of time, because if you don't do it right the first 10 minutes you won't be able to do it in the remaining period of time.

  • hahahaha!

I closed my eyes for 1 sec,

    coz I don't wanna miss a segment

    XD

  • U.R.A.Q.T

  • hahah great video. it reminded me of when I first smoked pot way back when... "you can use an apple a can whatevers clever." haha and then the video went into some crazy cuts haha im faving this one for sure!

Oh yeah to any programmers that smoke cigarettes and have a big caffeine intake. Your going to need to pop a chill pill first or it can be hard to meditate go see your doctor. And if you are a programmer 6 Months Severance pay Rocks \m/ see you all in the unemployment line. Cheers!

  • That was funny. I got in my most comfortable position in my computer chair and closed my eyes. I tried to pay attention to my breath as you said and it felt really relaxing. Then I opened my eyes...and you said...why are you looking at me! Ha..ha. that was funny. (at least to me anyways) (off to eat...i'm not sure why I'm hungry right now.)

  • I have trouble maditating for more than 30mins.

  • Meditation is badass - I am a biology teacher and usually meditate for about 5 minutes at lunch. and about 20 minutes after yoga before bed.
