After a brief struggle I swung my fist at his chest and regained control of the plane. I warned him that the next time he was going to touch the controls I would wrap his mic around his neck and make a banner out of him. The rest of the flight was uneventful but it was the only time I wish general aviation airplanes came with an ejection handle.
A long time ago, I was building flight time as a traffic watch pilot. One day a new reporter wanted to sit up in the co-pilot seat on the Cessna 172 instead of the back where they normally do their reporting. We started our take off roll and I feel resistance on the yoke as it tries to rotate prematurely. I look over and the reporter has his hand on the yoke and tells me "Relax, I have hundreds of hours on Microsoft Flight Sim".
Shit, i'd love to pilot one of these sims..Thanks to home desktop simulators these days many kids could hop in the real thing and be pretty familiar with the systems.
Does anybody see these comments below, I'm a real pilot ,Boeing sucks! What? Your a pilot in your dreams maybe. No card carrying commercial pilot would ever say anything remotely as critical of other aircraft as what you've said
IF the aircraft was on Autopilot in cruise and was say a Boeing 737 up to 747 or Airbus A320-A340,and they chucked me in the Left Hand Seat, not a problem. Especially if the runway was ILS Cat 3 that i was attempting to land on, i would be scared but im sure that i could get it down quite safely. Having used FS9 for may thousands of hours and seeing what Mythbusters achieved and flying on Flight Experience Sims, i would be confident.
Not consistently enough to be a commercial pilot, as I've never flown a real one. I could probably pull it off if you'd put me by myself in a cockpit of a live flying a/c.
ya i think anyone can land a plane with traninng i bet if you have spent around like 4 years in fsx you shoulf at least and a plane with the right intructions from the ATC'S
Easy No problem infact I think landing the real thing would be just as easy as this simulator makes it look because like the simulator you CAN FEEL THE PLANE UNDER YOUR ASS...
im 14 and i think i might be able to land it, just give me like 15 hours to get a feel for the cockpit and give me a few (around 15) practice flight and ill give it a shot xD but first i would need to come up with the money...and i have played FSX for about 2 years so i guess i would know the airspeed requirements and where most of the switches are and stuff
I'm 14, I could probably land a Jet Liner. I have the Captain Sim 757 and Wilco Airbus vol 1 for FSX. In a 757 I know how to start the engines, ILS landings and work the FMC. In the airbus, I know how to start the engines and work the FMC.
you probably could, but these sims are A LOT different than FS9/X. This is a real cockpit, not a desktop computer lol. I've landed one of Air Canada's A320 sims and it wasn't like flight simulator at all. It actually feels like the real thing(and acts like one too)lol. nice vid. Can't wait to go in one of these again. Now it will be the EMJ-175/190 sim. I wonder how I would do in that lol
To be honest, I am 14 and think I could make this with and without autopilot, so long the wind not were too strong, etc etc. Ive trained alot on the MicrosoftFlightSimulator 2004/X and its probably easier in that simulator, because you got all the buttons, and not the keyboard + real feelings flying a plane.
dude! if u are in emergency condition u cant fly the a/c using the auto pilot, that is the procedure, even the auto throttle should be disconnected as well
maybe after you get ATPL you can say this ;) Just because you play MS Flight Sim does not mean that you could manage a real Sim or plane. I love planes too, and I fly the Wilco A320 in FSX since 1.5 years, and read many books and trained on many different stuff like weather, and aerodynamics, etc but that doesn't mean I could dare to say I'm able to fly the real thing. It's much much more to it.
most jets have several autopilots, and when you want to perform an "autoland" all three of those are enganged on the approach mode of the autopilot, and it touches down itself.
all the pilot has to do after that is pull the reverse thrust on
actually; most do not have that type of autopilot equipped. pilots manually break out of cloud at 200 or 100 feet depending on the type of instrument appraoch req. if visual they take it on autopilot until around then as well
i have a VERY important question for a real pilot of a jumbo jet. Is there a button on the plane that lands the plane on autopilot? I REALLY WANT O KNOW!! please post me on my email or youtube acount please. nice vid!
no there isn't one button there are many buttons that you set to land it on autopilot u press ATHR wich stands for autothrottle and you turn a knob until it shows the desired airspeed in knots then you use the heading selector so the plane maintains a heading then you select the vertical speed ( how many feets does the plane gain or lose per minute and then you select the autobrakes to 2 or 3 depending on environemental data and if correctly set the plane will land and brake by himself.
@grahamshark: if you think you can simply land a jet by pressing a button ... then we're all pilots ... hahaha. Go to school kid before learning how to fly ;)
do you pay anything, how long can you be there, i am 13 and from czech republic, but i live in la. but i am coming back to europe soon, so just in case i go to UK, do they have A340 or A330 simulators?thanks

Yes I am only 12 and i have flown a 747 simulator before and you can taxi to and from to the gates. When i went i got to do it for free but only because I have a friend who works at a place like this.
does anyone know what scenery they use in this simulators-does it bear any relation to ms flight sims add on scenerys?...may sound a stupid question but thats the way it is

From what I understand on a plane like this the autothrottle is engaged and tends to only be disengaged at minimums - so it is only on takeoff and touchdown that the throttles are used manually.
Pilots will keep their hands on the throttle quadrant even when the autothrottle is engaged to enable them to take control quickly if needed.
Planes this size tend to be very much flown from the FMC.
