Been using one of these for years..this lady needs to read the instructions (or follow what others say here)...you don't just throw the paper in a sink of water and make the log in a few moments, you tear the paper..soak it for a couple or three days and then make the log...I dry mine in an open shed in a few weeks..no problem

Well i cannot believe the way this lady has made this obviously not read the instructions, I purchased 1 of these from a site on Ebay and cannot believe how good it really is if you put your mind to it and do it properly you can save a lot of ££ and help the environment, i use a large bucket filled 3/4 full with water rip and shred newspaper and stir it with a wooden stick not so easy but then leave this for 2 days or so come back its nice and thick pulp then make great bricks dry them out Brill
@bobhoey01 Now you can make these outside in quantities in summer ready for winter if making in winter well i place mine on a wooden rack and place under the my multi/wood burner and just turn occasionally to speed up progress of drying and i read a article about 1 person setting chimney on fire well never heard this before has anyone else/ you can buy chimney soot reduction cleaner it comes in small packets very easy to use you just cut the sachet open and place into hot fire i use this always!
Try soaking the newspapers in a 5 gal bucket for a day or so. Then get a paint mixer attachment for your drill and use it to shred up the paper in the bucket. Take take the mixture and place it in your press and press it until most of the water has been removed. Place newly formed briquettes on a drying rack for about a week. These should be a better product.
Well, I have one of these and was looking for a way to improve the log. However I have to say the instructions are only a couple of lines and this lady has ignored them. It basically says : rip the news paper, leave it to soak at least 1.5 hours but better for 3 days. Put paper in press and compress. It seems to me only 1 of the 3 steps were followed.
Wow, what a lot of hate comments. I thought this project made for a nice summer afternoon with the brats (I mean kids). Yes it was messy and took a while to work out the kinks. My instructions said to ball up paper dip in water and press. NOPE. Soaking and shredding made for an easier brick and those ones burned better. How funny that I found the burn bricks already made for sale on the web. The video is honest it just was not a product for most people :)
Your supposed to leave the paper soaking for three days,in a big bucket,to allow the paper to break down, youll find its alot easier to make the bricks then, after you have made them they need drying for a week or more to fully dry them, the idea is you make batches of twenty or so at a time.
This is the sort of foolish video which gives a half decent project a bad name. It's all in the application and drying. Allow these logs to dry out properly (and try and get as much out in the compression process) then they burn fine. If you want something quick and convenient, turn up the gas
Actually, I have one of these and while the maker is fine, the paper logs are absolutely crap. They don't burn, just smolder and smoke a bit. I've tried others with same results. Better off with wood.
These gadgets are great. I managed to make 13 logs in one hour. Its possible to fill one tub full of water and keep using it so it doesnt waste water. If anyones thinking of buying one of these don't let this video put you off.
I'm not trying to be rude but you havent followed the advice in the instructions that come with the product. 1) Tear or shred the paper (i.e. not just empty it into the sink) 2) Soak the shredded paper for 1 hour minimum, 2 days optimal (i.e. not 1 minute). Then you can press a brick out of it and leave it to dry in a greenhouse for about 1 week as instructed. A colleague makes over 200 of these every year with no problems whatsoever. Maybe you should give it another chance!
You are totally bias against this product. You can recycle water by using a water butt duh! You cant use the machine either Good eco gadget actally if you know how to use it which obviously you dont!! The log dries in 24 hrs duh!
lmao!! she's doing it all wrong, you have to let the paper sit for a while you dumb ass!! and mix it with wood shaving

not to be rude or anything but, Did you throw aways the instructions?

I personally don't like these hand press machines, because of the lack of leverage...but you aren't really being fair to it.
1) Get a large bucket filled with water (add a splash of bleach for it to work faster.
2) Shred/Tear the paper
3) mix together...then leave it for a couple of days
4) press the brick.
5) do it all outside instead of the kitchen
Basically you didn't read the instructions and you haven't done it right.

This is a great devise, this lady doesn't know how to do it at all !
use a large bucket & leave the paper to soak for 3 days, & dont do it on a stainless sink as it will scratch the sink !

What a pair of idiots, read the instructions!
