  • I have been suffering with this condition for a least a 2 years now and have tried many natural "remedies". Unfortunately, none of these worked for me; they're either too messy or too smelly. What has worked wonders for me is Selsun Blue (be sure to get the one with selenium sulfide). The key to Selsun Blue is getting it directly on your scalp and letting it sit for a couple of minutes. I have been using this for about a month and my scalp feels normal again!

  • @blu8785 I feel you. As I mentioned in a more recent vid I haven't found a natural remedy that works long term. I haven't tried selsun blue but I have tried products like it with ok results. Currently using sulfur 8 after I shampoo to relieve my symptoms.

  • ....and, you are cute....

  • I've had SD for over 15yrs and I started this treatment in March. With the first treatment I noticed a difference. I went from washing my hair every 3-5 days to not having to wash my hair for two weeks. I have noticed that I only need about 1/4 of the ACV and 1to 2 tsp of EVOO know.

  • @JulietsDiner Wow, those are great results! I'll definitely give it a try and see how it works for me *fingers crossed*

  • @dovedarby did you try the ''1/4 of the ACV and 1to 2 tsp of EVOO'' treatment ? did it work for you ??

  • Scalp psoriasis and Seborrhea Dermatitis of the scalp can be difficult to tell apart. Both are skin diseases that can affect the scalp. They share similar symptoms such as itchy, red, scaly skin. Usually, the scales of psoriasis are thicker and drier in appearance than the scales of seborrhea dermatitis. If you have scalp psoriasis, you might have mild psoriasis on your elbows, knees, hands, or feet or may notice subtle nail change. The American Institute of Advanced Medicine has your solution.

  • try applying castor oil to your scalp post conditioning. It heals the scalp and seals the moisture in too. Hope that helps hun!!

  • cont. I put the mixture in a hair dye bottle and apply this to the scalp the night b/4 shampooing (sleep in a shower cap) or 4 to 5 hr b/4 shampooing if doing this the day of. Then rinse hair & shampoo as normal (don't scratching the scalp before doing this as this mixture will sting).

I've never tried this with other oils or regular ACV but it may work... The ACV kills the bacteria & cleans out the pores in the scalp. Also view this video by SandraIndia

  • I stumbled upon your video and wanted to share what has worked for me. Most products just seem to mask the problem but I urge you and anyone else that will watch your video to try this...recipe of Apple cider vinegar and olive oil. Take 2 parts Organic Raw Unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar (I use the Bragg brand) and 1 part Virgin Olive oil (1/2 cup ACV + 1/4 cup EVOO) adjust the ratio as you see fit.

  • @JulietsDiner Thanks for sharing! How long have you been using this treatment and how severe is your scalp condition?

  • Long Time living with SD. (25years+) Managed by products that contain 2% Ketoconazole. By far the greatest advancement since sliced bread is Extina foam made by Stiefel Pharmaceuticals. My Derm. suggested i used it over the Nizoral OTC shampoo sold here in the US. FYI, Nizoral shampoo sold in US stores is only 1% Ketoconazole. I searched for Nizoral on Ebay and found that Nizoral with 2% Ketoconazole is sold overseas. You come out cheaper via Ebay compared to your prescription.

  • The only thing that works for me is Elidel.

Like magic it is all gone right away.

Everything else falls very short for me.

    Unfortunately, Elidel can cause cancer.

  • Try Shea Butter too

  • I'm very sad with my hair, is a long fight that never ends, also i have long hair with very very amount of hair... i think this is not helpful, i would pay a lot of money for a definitive cure, definitive... no more itching in the hair.....

  • How many of you fellow Seb Dermatitis sufferers were breast fed as babies? I was only breast fed for one day due to my mum developing an infection , was wondering if not being breast fed could be a cause of Seb Dermatitis

  • @peekay1984

I know in recent years doctors are finding kids put on these soy formulas have a lot of allergies/excema, but not sure about 20-30 years back.

  • i put steroids on my once every 3 days. i dont have enough time to pamper myself with all these... i wouldnt wish this upon anyone. i just hope my skin doesnt fall off in ten years from all the steroids

  • try renew lotion from melaleuca it helped me trust me

  • I understand your pain. I have sensitive skin & scalp. Thanks for making videos.

  • Hello I suffering from SD but mines is so bad that my hair is coming out from the roots.

  • @cocoa510pricess awww sorry to hear that. A trichologist told me that would happen to me too but it hasn't happened yet.

  • I have read recently that a yeast overgrowth in the system may be connected to SD

  • Wow! I do have a food allergies and my father and brother has seborrheic dermatitis.

  • I also have SD, and noticed that once I try different treatments they work temporarily and then the symptoms start back. For the people with scalp issues. I use an astrigent, i know that sounds wierd but it works for me. Just to worn people, if you try this...it will burn if your scalp is flared up. You could use a blow dryer afterwards to stop the burning sensation. Hope this works for somebody

  • i use "ketopirox ds" very famous in europe, pharmatic product, you get clean hair and all your head, but you know the seborreic dermatitis appears again very soon ni a few days, this shampoo makes the hair some dry is the shame, sorry for my bad english i dont speak english :P

  • @Arilouu Thats ok. Your english is fine. Thanks for sharing!

  • have you tried tea tree oil?

I have this mine is very very bad. I have been to many Dr and they all say its the worst case they have seen. one said it is the worst case she's seen in 30 years. :(

I am currently trying to treat it.

  • Yes I have tried tea tree oil...I think I've tried EVERYTHING at this point...lol. I use naturally medicated shampoos to treat my scalp. Other than that I don't put anything in my scalp because it would just cause further irritation :( How are you treating yours?

  • which naturally medicated shampoo do you use? i've been using loprox since september and i'd much rather use a natural alternative. i've also stretched my shampoos from 7 days to every 10 days. i mix some scalp relief solution (3% salicylic acid) with the loprox and apply to my scalp. it's worked out really well. still, i need a natural alternative so i can switch up and my scalp doesn't become immune. thanks.

  • @expertonmyself Sorry so late responding...I've used Butters-n-bars au naturale medicated soap, Chagrin Valley Neem & Tea Tree, Kinky-Curly Come Clean, and Trader Joes Tea Tree shampoo...to name a few.

  • for those that have the scalp issues, u can use an astrigent also, i burns like crap but it worked for me

  • @lolitadoll646 haha i bet mine is worse than yours!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Well Try this product called HASK in walmart.. ITs a dandruff treatment but it works for me a little bit.. IT may work for you. Put it in your scalp after washing.

  • i left a comment b4 on how bad my scalp was.....

huge improvment with APPLE CIDER VINEGAR

all i do is mix about a 1/3 of it wit a glass of water and rinse my scalp with its helped so much

it of course keeps comming bac so i do lik every 3 days

pls try it once and u will c wat i meen

the smell goes away after its dry

  • I also have it....I use scalpicin on the area affected...one of things my doctor told me that the winter is the worse for SD...also I have found that oils is not a friend of the scalp if you are having a flare up....so I stay away from all oils I use a all natural bar soap for m washing which I do ever 2 to 3 days to keep my scalp clean. I wear a wash and go.also ....and when I condtion my hair I place it on the hair and not the scalp.I also take and prenatal Vits. to help with the hair loss.

  • My dermatologist diagnosed me with seborrhea dermatitis in 2007. He prescribed a shampoo and fluccocide (mispelled?) ointment. It worked somewhat but then I began experiencing severe itching. The ointment was a cortisteroid ointment and I mysteriously began to gain weight. My ankles became swollen and I experienced muscle aches. I found Thera Neem shampoo and conditioner by Organix South Inc. and it stopped the itching and redness the same day I used it. I bought it from a health food shop.

  • @Ravenpriestess I can't believe that ointment had all those side effects. Good thing you stopped using it. I haven't heard of Therna Neem. How has it worked long term? Sounds worth trying...

  • Yes, the ointment had side effects. I felt like I was going crazy because I didn't think something like that could cause that kind of reaction. The Thera Neem shampoo and conditioner has worked wonders. I have NO itching or redness now. I've been using it for almost 6 months. This product is all natural and it smells like coconut because it has coconut as one of the ingredients. I like how it makes my hair really soft.

  • @Ravenpriestess hey can you use this also on the face. ive have it on the face too? what is your experience?

  • @joellie2010 I think the Neem & Tea Tree is the only one intended to use on your face since it is a body & shampoo bar-in-one. However, you could always try any of these soaps on your face and see what the results are...can't hurt since they're natural right...hahaha. I still use the Neem & Tea Tree today with great results. Its a great cleanser. Let me know if you have more questions :)

  • dermatologist told me like 90% of adults have it but they think it's bad dandruff condition. i've been telling ppl to seek a dermatologist because general dr's don't know everything, that's why it's the practice of medicine and that's why there are specialists. you're not alone. i'm so glad i found you! i was looking up chagrin valley soap reviews and came across this vid. :-)

  • i've had it for years but my general dr misdiagnosed it as tinea versicolor. dermatologist properly diagnosed when i finally decided to see 1; appt was actually day b4 you posted this vid. nizoral worked for me in the past (regular dr), but now my derm as me on loprox shampoo, derma-smoothe scalp oil and beta-val ointment. condition is much better now but i do want to get back to my wholistic routine and use more natural products. SD is no joke; it had trickled down to my face & neck.

  • cont. Aloe Vera Gel to moisturize areas on the front of my scalp I may have missed if I am on the go. I don't care for oil on my hair weighing it down, so I am hesitant to put on my scalp though I do notice my scalp is thankful for extra oil when I make an occasion to use it.

I don't have any food allergies, but I do have a sweet tooth. My sister does and she also had the dermatitis.

  • SD patient here, good video.

I've been using prescription products off & on, in conjuction with brands I love. I stopped using the TGels, H&S years ago - they are relaxed hair killers!!

Now moving to non sulfate/paraben shampoos so scalp isn't irritated and better for the hair. I wash with Hair One, Also tried Carol Daughter - verdict still out on that

For me, my scalp is better when I dry it as quickly & completely as possible so I prefer sitting under the dryer. I also carry aloe vera gel

  • @Lapreghiera Thanks for checking out my vid. Yeah those sulfate shampoos are too harsh for our condition. Do you apply the aloe to your scalp often? Or just after you shampoo & condition?

  • @dovedarby

sorry replying weeks later. The Aloe Vera gel is a quick fix to moisturize the area during a peeling episode, like I'm in the car and see in rear view my hairline flaking. Grab aloe vera gel and good to go for hours. But as a stated in a recent post, the weekly sulfur 8 treatment is kicking butt, I haven't used aloe vera in weeks.

  • @Lapreghiera I agree aloe vera does help with flaking in the beginning stages. How often do you use sulfur 8? Just after shampooing or throughout the week?

  • @dovedarby

Its sulfur 8 hair grease, not poo. I used the 'lite' in the blue jar cause the yellow jar odor/% active ingredient stronger. I apply to my scalp right after a wash & set, in between all the parts, just once & good til next wash & been making it 6-7 days.

But in the last 9 months since reply gone wholly into non sulfate shampoos & don't get the redness/scaling. Sulfur 8 sitting in cabinet, been using organic oils to address dryness, acv to clarify as needed.

  • Can You tell me the difference between Seborrheric Dermatitis and psoriasis

  • Sure thing...I'll send you a message :)

  • Both the Organix white tea/grapeseed can be considered a clarifying shampoo and the shampoo is so diferent than the other ones, it has almost a gelatin consistency. Anyway, if they stopped making this product, I would be crushed because I don't want to have to spend a lot of money on products. Hope this helps. :) Btw, I love your hair!

  • Lol, well I hope they never stop making them! Thanks for the compliment :)

  • I have been dealing with SD for a long time and I use to think it was dandruff until I went to the doctor. He prescribed me some Nizoral and told me to wash my hair like 3 times a week. It worked for a while, but I think that Iam gonna try the chagrin valley soaps to see if this helps me. It is good to know that there is some people that can relate to what I go through.

  • @jigga1050 I can definitely understand where you are coming from. I used to use Nizoral as well and a corticosteroid oil. Still looking for the right shampoo but I'm enjoying trying different ones out.

  • Have u tried Organix White tea, grapeseed poo and condish or the one in the Organge bottle? It's sulfate free and I just started using it.

  • No I haven't tried that line yet. Have you found it to benefit you?

  • doverdarby...i was diagnosed with sd and my dermatologist recommended nizoral shampoo which seemed to have kept it at bay....i stopped using the shampoo since i've gone natural so i use baking soda and apple cider vinegar on my scalp and it appears to be working...good luck...i definitely feel your pain...

  • Thanks for the encouragement. Yeah, I used nizoral in highschool but stopped using it when my prescription ran out. I've also tried the baking soda and acv with little luck. I'm glad its working for you though. I know how difficult dealing with all this can be and when you finally find something that works for you I'm sure it's an awesome feeling. God bless!

  • they do sell nizoral on the shelf at walgrens, target, ect, but it's expensive...i still get the occassional flare up, but it's not nearly as bad as it used to be...i also keep a spray bottle filled with water that i boiled and let cool to room temperature and i add tea tree oil, rosemary and peppermint drops and spritz my hair and scalp every day...

  • Those are great oils to spray directly on your scalp...I must agree :)

  • From what read, sebhorrea is scalp's sebhorrea dermatitis.

Dairy intolerance here. Plus all kind of allergies in the family inlcuding myself lol.

OMG you just mentioned me Lol. You'r welcome.

  • I had to mention you girl! You have been so helpful!

  • Have you ever tried Neutrogena TGel shampoo? I have excema on my scalp and it works really well. If you want you should look into that product too.

  • I did own some TGel but I found that it was very hazardous so I chose not to use it. Plus it has sulfates which irritate my scalp even more. I'm glad it works for you though.

  • I hope the bars gives you some relief.

  • Thanks! I hope so too.

  • Great video.... The rating is disabled, so I'll try again later...

  • Thanks.

  • I have SD. It can be frustrating at times :(

  • I KNOW the feeling. How are you treating yours, if you don't mind me asking?

  • I HAVE to wash my hair every week. Otherwise I get flare ups. I wash my hair with a salicylic acid shampoo. I dilute it with water because it can make my hair dry out.

I want to try and use the nizoral shampoo next to see how that works.

  • I used Nizoral in highschool along with a corticosteroid oil--they worked great together, but the nizoral dried my hair out. You may want to dilute that too.

  • i was born with psoriasis but the symptoms u are describing sounds exactly what I have. i was recently turned away from joining the military because of it :( so im all distraugh because i was supposed to be shipped out today. I'm going to do a response video today for how i treat it because its an odd accidental discovery i found in 9nth grade when my hair was falling out due to scaling and flaking.

  • Yeah all these skin disorders are related in some way. I'm sorry to hear you were turned away because of it! I didn't know the military could do that. Well remember all things happen for a reason and things WILL work out for the best :)
