I remember this being on daytime tv when I was a little younger. I was really ill and decied to take a day off and I turned this on. It was so wonderfully bizare that I could not switch it over. I kept telling everyone about it and all they did was frown :P "Alan Rickman was in an urn... mumbling!"... "yerrr right Keeley" :P
@Keeleycide I had the same experience. I remember seeing this on television years ago when I was younger and it almost traumatized me. It is so strange and I have been looking for this video for so long. It has been in the back of my head since I was younger and I would think about it sometimes but always forgetting about it and never searching for it until tonight. All I knew from when I was younger was that Alan Rickman was in it and I remembered this video I first saw the Harry Potter movies
@ScrubbleShuckleX That is exactly my experience. I remember catching it late at night on PBS a few years back. Freaked me out, but I couldn't change the channel! Of course, it's brilliant writing.
They have such wonderful voices, very well spoken and so clear! I'm from Yorkshire and would love to speak like that! Thats it! I'm moving and refuse to speak with this stuuuuupid accent :P
The 2 actresses are Kristin Scott Thomas on the left and on the right Alans friend, and one of our best stage actresses, the wonderful Juliet Stevenson
wow, that is fantastic, my son showed me this as he's studying drama, incredible performance and great writing, Alan Rickman is a star, plays a fantastic baddy
You have a point. But if you read the original script Beckett writes in the ..uumm.. aarh I've forgotten the word, but not the text, but explanation of what's happening he actually wrote that a spot should change from face to face. So this is kinda the film-way
this seems so challenging, to memorize all these lines and speak so fast and still make it flow and be relatively understandable. They sound just like I do in my head!! Wonderful actors.
if anyone can rewrite/ or make a subtiltle of what they were saying, because im a hearing inpaired, and my speakers sucks. So if you can send a link or explain, or type their lines... i would very much appreciate it.
The work they must've gone through to know the lines, the makeup, inspiration...
This is AMAZING!
It almost seems...like it's real. As if this IS how we'll end up. if we're cremated that is. It intrigues me...how we talk to ourselves so fast and understand completely, but when actually said...is almost head-aching.
Its not as hard as you think it is. I did it as one of my senior pieces, the hardest part is saying it quick while maintaining the punctuation, grate play no pun intended
We studied this play in creative writing. They're stories are all related. The man cheated on his wife. They basically killed one another or committed suicide. The reason why in the beginning they show them talking all together is because they are dead in earns and they basically spend the rest of their after life telling their story completely unaware of everyone and everything else.
well, that`s excatly inside our minds... we talk to ourselves even much faster, all the time... Also, I like the scenography... hehe, gives a scarry note :)
My brain just exploded. What is this about?

I love Alan Rickman but who are those other actresses? Their performances seemed just as stirring/amazing as Alan's. Anyone know?

Every time I rewatch this, it becomes more clearer, and their lines actually seem to become slower and more coherent each time.

Beckett is essentially holding a mirror up to humanity and saying, "look how emasculated you have become".

i like it a lot (wonderful play and acting work) but in my opinion the subjetive use of the camera is quite anti-Beckett
