  • the mop xD

  • Comment removed

  • @wednesdaywar You'd have people shushing you up REEEEAAALLY quickly if you did.

  • Awww...I remember this. I'm sad that MGM doesn't have this anymore. It was a fun thing to do with the family. It's awesome that someone captured this on film.

  • @aelievense but it does. I was just there.

  • this is creeeepy

  • this is cr4eepy

  • It looks awesome. Is it still there now that it's 2010?

  • @ginger1961 yes it is ,even though last ime i went the whole ride was have technical difficulties

  • The witch is terrifyingly real....especially when you're there.

  • Tour guide sounds like a robot just spouting lines, terrible personality.

  • ..... oh dear... why didnt i think of that.

  • ladies and gentlemen, Rick Moranis as Dorothy!

  • Dorothy had a sex change:P

  • why is this tour guide like, dead?

  • It sure looks damn real to me so yes I think it exists/existed.

Dorothy had a sex change and now sounds like a man hahaha

  • Who was Margaret Hamilton? Was she the one that wrote for Gone with the Wind?!!!OMFG,if you go on the history channel website they have a wonderful documentary about her because I've watched already!!!!!!!!!!When was she born by the way, because it doesn't say when she was born!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • No, you're thinking Margaret Mitchell. She wrote Gone with the Wind. She was born November 8th 1900.

  • Well yeah get their last confused, because they have the same first names, you know?IMargaret Hamilton actually plays both the Wicked Witch of the East and the Wicked Witch of the West too!!!!I likw Margaret Mitchell shes the one that wrote Gone with the Wind I watched a documentary about her on the History channel! They should make a documentary about Margaret Hamilton though, through her lifetime.

  • No, I understand completely. When you said Margaret Hamilton, I knew immediately who you meant. I just didnt want you to go around with wrong information, you know? I agree with your idea that they should make a MH documentary. She seems like a very interesting lady.

  • I said Margaret Hamilton,I was talking about the wrong person when she's the one who wrote Gone with the Wind!I mean't to say Margaret Mitchell, the reason why I brought her is because Gone with the Wind and The Wizard Of Oz were probably the best movies back in 1939!At least Gone with the Wind won a lot of academy awards than The Wizard Of Oz and that's a fact by the way!Gone with the Wind was also a lot of drama with the Civil War and The Wizard of Oz is like a Family Fantasy movie,am I right?

  • Yeah, you're right.

  • Margaret Hamilton was the lady who played the Wicked Witch of the West in the Wizard of Oz. She as born December 9 1902.

  • anybody know were to get the audio for this.

  • wait a sec! is that a mop that the witch is carrying! lol

  • oh wow creepy...

  • I went on that when i was 12 wow

  • They totally should've piped the actual dialoge from the movie. The dubber did a good job but Margaret Hamilton was the best.

  • this is my favorite part

  • i like how the guide sounds like he does not give the slightest crap about what's happening.

  • W T F what the fuck

  • The witch was state of the art 20 years ago. Now she looks stiff.

  • OMG it's everywhere it's following me

  • no the witch is an anmatronic

  • Is the witch a real live actor?

  • no animatronic

  • No she is a robotic prop thing. You can tell by the way she is moving

  • This ride is made up,it never existed at the rides in Disney Hollywood Studios,I've never saw it before, because I look for it everywhere down in the theme park and it's never there because when I asked some stanger and I asked him was there ever The Wizard of Oz ride and he said,"no it never existed"!!!!!!

  • @XxFamezxX At first glance, you would think she was real. Disney invested heavly into making anmatronics look even more lifelike over the past years. What you're seeing before you is the newest version of the anmatronic Elphaba called Sarcron.

  • my fav part of the ride

  • @scooterviii there's a "tour guide" on the boat that you're on during the ride. and he's saying that line.

  • @scooterviii lol

  • @scooterviii it's the tour guide.

  • @scooterviii haha i thought you were talking about the dorothy that you see with scarecrow, tinman and lion. but yeah it would be funny if she sounded like a man.

  • Is this the new witch animatronic,or the

new one, becauese they replaced the old one...

  • I remember this ride. I went on it way back in 1989.

I was 4 years old at the time.

  • I am a huge Wizard of Oz fan..is this ride located @ MGM in Florida?

  • The Great Movie Ride is at MGM Studios (now Hollywood Studios). Go straight down Hollywood Blvd and its right behind the Sorcerer's hat =)

  • Yes, but now the park is called "Disney's Hollywood Studios"

  • Why is Dorothy's voice a man's voice? And is this ride still running and where?

  • Oh this ride is great I still can't get over when the witch came out how real it was I was stunned, amazing, need better actors for the vocals though LOL they change them all the time thank goodness GREAT RIDE!

  • nice.

  • lol same here krazykittymatt

  • This ride was awesome and scared the shit outta me at the same time!!! It went from cute things like the wizard of oz and Mary Poppins to freakin Aliens!!! I knew i was gonna shit myself as soon as I saw Segorney Weaver breathing heavy with a machine gun!!!

  • OMG! Same here. The Alien this scared the crap outta me. It totally threw me off.

  • Sad to see that this ride is now gone and MGM is now known as Disney Hollywood Studios.

  • what are you talking about this ride is still up and running.

  • The ride's still here. I don't think it's going anywhere. It cost a lot to build and probably cost just as much to remove it

  • I think its just because it has all the movies in one ride. Classic movies and they don't want to get rid of it because thats what the park is all about movies and this ride is still quite popular after soo many years of it being there its a classic ride with movies that everyone loves. i love the ride.

  • true. The ride is pretty much the centerpiece of the park

  • animatronic midgets are creepy.

  • wow, so cool! I wish it was the whole ride...

  • Its funny how after wicked, everybody calls the witch elphaba. i remember this ride. The Nome King is way cooler than the wicked witch though.

  • LONG LIVE ELPHIE!

  • It's the tour guide.

  • WOW... I went on this years ago...

    Thank you for posting...

  • those arguing that they are the same person, you're half right. The MGM wicked witch isn't elphaba, Elphaba is the the MGM wicked witch. Elphie was based on this witch. The one in the original book wasn't even green. They did that to show off the new technicolor, just like changing the slippers from silver to Ruby red

  • Also, in the book/musical, the slippers turned Ruby red because Elphaba performed the spell on them to allow Nessarose to walk.

  • the witch is fake shes a robot i mean think about it who would want to stand in that ride all day and say the same thing over and over and over

  • They're all puppets.

  • Does anyone notice the voice of Dorothy and Glinda sounds like Mark Hamill?

  • i thought the same thing...it's probably the tour guide's voice....idk

  • it's the tour guide, not dorothy

  • is the witch real or is she a robot

  • wow, you know his decendants? that is so cool. an hell yeah, i agree with you 100%, the original wicked witch was not Elphaba, she was based on the 1939 wicked witch, who frankly was very scary and mean in her own right, was way off based. Still, i think that Maguire did a good job with her. but what does it matter anyway, they're both fictional characters, and they're not exactly suing each other, so why don't we just let this die already?

  • Just shut the flying monkeys up all of you! The original BAUM wicked witch of the west is NOT Elphaba. The MGM movie wicked witch IS Elphaba. As in the green skin. More people know the movie... so just shut up already.

My neighbors, who are descendants of L.Frank Baum, clarified that a while ago for me.

  • you live near Robert and Claire?

  • Yup. They gave us pumpkins.:p

  • awesome people I also know them from WOZ conventions, funny all they send me are cards, never a pumpkin (LOL) next you see them please tell them Keith and Lynda from CHicago say Hi and hope to see them at Ozma. Be well

  • I'll do that! <}:~D

The pumpkins were from seeds from LFB himself...lol...they were sitting in Bob and Claire's garage for the past 60 years. And we got giant pumpkins.

  • got a couple seeds ya wanna share?

  • URGH! FINE! Believe your silly fantasies that this is Elphaba. You're all wrong anyway, why should i care.

  • Ravensclaw your a dumb ass elphaba and the wicked witch of the west are the same person they are not different how is it not her the book is about the wicked witch of the west thats why the book is titled the life and times of the wicked witch of the west and the musical is the book with music and with the plot is a little different but the characters are the same it is a prequel but its not the story goes before the wizard of oz but them it intergrates with it

  • NO. It isn't canon. The mgm film(what this is based on) is about some evil skank who is green. Wicked is about some green girl who is the victim of racism abuse etc etc blah blah blah... Still just because this is the base of Elphaba's character doesn't mean she IS elphaba. Oh and you're an asshole. :)

  • who me?

  • The guy who wrote the original books, Baum, is DEAD. There are 25 Oz books, and the author is dead. Anyone can write whatever the heck they want about Oz, but it's not canon. Baum, THE CREATOR, is dead. There is no licensing or franchise. Sorry, kid , but McGuire's novels aren't canon. PLEASE, take a literature class. It's obvious they aren't teaching you anything at school.

  • ravenclaw:

your arguement is that the wicked witch in the mgm film is wicked and elphaba is not..welll technically in the song no good deed elphaba says "let all oz be agreed, i'm wicked through and through" so technically your arguement is not correct..elphaba is the witch in the mgm film..the whole play and book are about how she became wicked, so if she isnt based on the other character the play loses its meaning

  • It's a different story. Yeah she is based on this evil witch, but it's like an Elphaba in some alternate universe. This ride is based on MGM. Tell me where in the MGM movie (which this is based on) is the witch called Elphaba, or does anything she does in wicked besides melt.

  • so scary loh...

  • Since MGM is no longer involved with WDW's

    Movie theme park?

I doubt if you'll ever see this atrraction at the

    park again?!

  • that was cool

  • Is it still there? I'm going to Florida on Thursday and I don't wanna miss it! I Love Oz!

  • They are different stories! Thi isn't the Elphaba from Wicked, its an evil witch.

  • Ravensclaw: Actually, Wicked USED the MGM version to create its version and so therefore, Wicked would thus actually BE a prequel (and later, a continuation) of the MGM classic.

  • They used the same characters and places, but wicked is not canon. Therefore this witch was intended to be evil and scary, and was definately not Elphaba. She was created in 1990's and the wicked witch from mgm was created in 1939. The mgm version (and this one) is evil. Plain and Simple. :P

  • Ravensclaw, seeing as the original book left the witch un-named, Wicked told the witch's story using the MGM formula. Therefore, since we didn't get the Witch's full side of things until Wicked, who is to say it is or isn't canon (because we had no backstory for the Witch until Wicked)? Plus, Merlvin LeRoy WANTED a beatiful witch initially, but the other producers rejected the idea, hence why Margaret Hamilton stepped in as the "ugly" witch.

  • Merlvin is supposed to Mervin.

  • Because they are two differnt stories. The witches are different people. Get over your opinion it isn't right. This witch was designed to be evil in the book by LFB. Coincidence that Elphaba is made from LFB. kind of shows how the witch's story isn't canonical. Plus in the original story written over 100 years ago, the witch was baaaaaad.

  • In the original story...Dorothy wore sliver shoes, Glinda was the South Witch, the Wicked Witch was a one-eyed hunchback, and there were killings of wolves and crows by the Tin Man and Scarecrow before the Winged Monkeys were called. In short, I am TALKING about the MGM canon, which IS what Wicked was BASED off of!

  • Yeah. Based off. This witch is evil and wicked gives her a possible back story. But this witch is evil and not created as Elphaba, and has no relation to Elphaba whatsoever. Why do you care anyway? They are both fiction. Besides. admit you are wrong. This isn't elphaba and that isn't an opinion. This witch is created as an evil witch. Oh and in wicked dorothy's shoes ARE silver.

  • "Oh and in wicked dorothy's shoes ARE silver."

I know, but that was to stay true with the original Baum tale until they were changed to ruby to stay consistant with the MGM continuity that Wicked was based off of. And I care, because I am an Elphie fan, and telling me to admit I am wrong when I am right on Wicked being based on the MGM canon basically slams the door in the face of your so-called fact.

  • Yeah it is based on it. Elphaba is this witch in Wicked, but in this story this witch is pure and simply evil. End of. :P

  • "Elphaba is this witch in Wicked"

If Elphie IS this witch (Wicked), then she's also said witch in this, BECAUSE Wicked is supposed to be a PREQUEL to the film!

  • NO SHE ISN'T. WICKED IS PROMOTED AS A PREQUEL IT ISN'T ACTUALLY THE PREQUEL. How can you not know that.

  • It is a "prequel" in the sense that the events in Wicked take place before the ones in The Wizard of Oz. However since they were written by different authors it is not THE OFFICIAL prequel to The Wizard of Oz. Basically it is legalized copyright infringement.

  • Eaxctly. :)

  • You people do realise that the slippers were silver in the original story, they were changed to ruby for the Wizard of Oz because it was one of the first movies to use so much color and they wanted to take advantage of the new technology. It was much more awe inspiring for the audience to see the sparkling Ruby slippers in full color than it would have been for them to see silver ones.

  • Seeing as the Witch didn't have a story (or even a name) until Wicked, who is to say it is or isn't canon? :D

  • I really don't care anymore. Youy are wrong i am right. There's no opinions about it. This isn't canon and you know it. Please stop replying to me now because you'll just look thick. You are wrong.

  • Ravensclaw: Bah to you. Most fans enjoy Wicked and kindly ACCEPT it as a POSSIBLE prequel. Therefore, why are YOU so stuck up on seperating the two tales when they work so well together?

  • I was just correcting you. This witch isn't the Elphie we all know and love. People annoy me when they say they are the same person. They are the same person but are a different person in each story. And yes it is a possible prequel. But just because fans like the stories going together doesn't mean they do.

  • I totally agree with you Ravensclaw. Wizard of Oz and Wicked were written about 70 years apart. Baum's witch is not the "Elphaba" we know, she is evil. plain and simple. It annoys me when people accept gregory maguires novel...although very clever...as the official prequel to Wizard of Oz. Yes they work well together, but seeing as Baum had no say whatsoever in it, I don't think its fair to accept Wicked as completly canon.

  • Woohoo! Well said =]

  • angelofmusic/Ravensclaw: Baum had no say in the MGM film that "Wicked" adapted/borrowed many of its elements--including Elphie's look--from and so, by the same logic, the film is not canon to the original book either! :P Thus, I am saying "Wicked" is more of a prequel to the film and NOT the original Baum tale and nor did I ever mean to say any different!

  • Ravensclaw: And you are biased. If I want to believe Wicked as the prequel when the Witches had no backstory before Wicked, why must you be so intent on stopping me? Canonity is subjective, because if by the same logic you say Wicked isn't official, then neither is the MGM film, for both use a majority of the same elements and are nothing like the original Oz book!

  • I am intent on styopping you because you said this witch WAS elphaba. They are two different characters, but still in the same story if you get what i mean. This Elpahaba is this witch in her story, but in this story Elphaba doesn't exists so this witch isn't her. Do you get it now?

  • utterly no

  • Look, you are wrong. Accept it. Elphaba is BASED on her. This isn't Elphaba, it's the character she's based on. Thety aren't the same. Deal with it.

  • i'm sorry but you are wrong because elphaba is the wicked witch of the west she agree's so herself in 'no good deed' the song the wicked witch of the west isnt really evil people believe she is because of the rumours from madame morrible i've seen the show many times the story of wicked is about the witchs of oz that is glinda the good witch and elphaba the wicked witch :) see you are wrong and how can they be different people? haha
  • The stories are different. Is this Elphaba? NO. It is an evil skank. So you are wrong. Did MGM name her Elphaba? NO. So you are wrong.

  • MGM didnt name her this is the wizard of oz and that is the wicked witch of the west/elphaba. Wicked and the wizard of oz are combined so the character is still elphaba and the wicked witch of the west!

  • In Wicked they are the same yeah. In the movie GM didnt exist yet, so didnt create Elphaba, so the witch isnt elphie in the movie, but she is in Wicked. I don't understand why people cant understand that. (Not that you didn't)

  • Just a fan thing. Like, after you read Wicked or see the musical, you watch the Wizard of Oz to put the pieces together.

But yeah, they're two different characters, definitely.

  • Hate to but in but the story of Wicked and L. Frank Baum's books are two different things, not one in the same. L. Frank Baum meant the wicked witch to be evil, but the novel Wicked was a different take on as to why she became evil- it's not true when it comes to the original books.

  • well i see what you mean, and in the play you would have a good point, but most people here are talking about the novel. Now as far as the play is concerned you are absolutely right. She never really did become Wicked, she never was. Cruel, uncaring, miserable, jealous and angry yes, all true, but never really Wicked.

  • nobodys talking about the show, they're talking about the book!

  • I always saw Wicked as a majorly mainstream fanfiction

  • I didn't even know this existed! Too cool! Except the tour guy is a bit of a bore...but what can you do.

Stupid question: this is Disney in California correct? Not Orlando?

  • Dorothy sucks, Elphaba RULES!!!!!!!!

  • amen!!!!

  • OMG I SOOO WANT TO GO ON THAT!! MY SKL PLAY HAS JUST DUN WiiZARD OF OZ! I WAS A PERSON OF OZ AND TINMAN DANCER =P WAS AMAIZN HAHA XX

  • omg this cast member is HORRIBLE!!!

  • Their robots you moron.

  • I meant the cast member in the train with the riders you dolt. Don't be so rude before you know your facts.
