@sandman554521 Of course it is better.Tom belongs to more recent generetion of players;-) Tom Adams is banjo player actualy and he was playing banjo for the most of his career but due to his hand complications he switch to guitar. He is a IBMA Banjo player of the year.
And as far as my personal opinion goes, I don't like Dr Ralph. I do not know how he got famous. I hate his nasally voice and two cord playing. every single song that he has ever recorded has two cords in it. 95% of bluegrass musicians agree, that this song has an f cord in it. however Ralph had g and d, nothing else. Which is idiotic, considering that it sounds so much better with F in it. and for my below statement, if you don't play or sing bluegrass, you shouldn't pop your damn mouth about
And Blue grass isn't religion. Do you even play an instrument? Do you know anything, ANYTHING, at all about music? I don't know what your damn problem is, but what ever it is you need to get over it. You don't like a person because he' plays resonator in backstep? I've heard mountain dulcimer play it, and it's epic. you can't like music and hate an instrument, or say its dumb for putting an instrument in a song.
Dr Ralph is not the god of bluegrass. In the area where i live which is literally about an hour away from his home place, he's not really even famous, you know who goes for stuff like that mostly is people over the age of 70, don't get me wrong, i am not saying Ralph Stanley isn't good, but he is not the only bluegrass singer/player, music is an experience, there is no set way to play it, and nobody plays the same song exactly the same way twice. It cannot be blasphemy considering he's no god.
By the way, I love ralph, I just figured since you were dogging on the best dobro player on planet earth, you wouldn't mind some humor... Thanks for the kind words!
there is no need for that. All 3 are great players! With VERY different styles of playing. Rob has a far more scalular style of playing, while JD has a very unusual style that seems to go all over the place without always scale patterns. I AM a dobro player. Also, I have met Rob, and he is the nicest guy you could ever meet. Mike is also a great guy, and so is JD. These 3 have IMMENSE respect for each other. There's nothing wrong with not enjoying Rob's style, but HE DOES NOT SUCK!!
@meanlezbo Obviously you don't enjoy music. Music is made up of all types of different styles that mesh together to make an enjoyable sound. There is nothing wrong with a Dobro playing clinch mountain backstep, simply because it doesn't really matter what your playing, its whether you enjoy it or not. Rob Ickes is one of the best dobro players right now, to say that he sucks is preposterous. So in your own words. Only a dumb ass would say that a song is instrument specific.
I am not sure Rob is the finest on the planet, but neither would I deny it. He is a great musician and a great guy. I have actually had a lesson with him ^_^
Don't hear this one much. Good tune. First cover I remember was Nitty Gritty Dirt Band back in the 70's. Good job!
